As a swede and sandbox fan I have an interest in MO, but only played in Beta almost 2 years ago (dreadful experience, I'm sad to say). But where does MO stand today?

I will try Star Wars on release, but expect to go back to either Vanguard or Darkfall after a couple of months, or perhaps to MO? Any reason I should choose MO over Darkfall or maybe VG? I'm mostly a PvE-person but I like sandboxes and hence I have come peace with that I will be cannon fodder in PvP games but still be able to enjoy them...

So, please, why should or should I not play MO, and how is the PvE part of the game (think I can visualize the pvp part).

I hate to say this, but asking on this forum is not a particularly good way to answer your question.  You most likely will get conflicting answers about every aspect of the game,  Personally, I would recommend you give it a try at least through the free trial. https://account.mortalonline.com/  That won't be enough to really sink your teeth into the game, but it will at least give a chance to assess the problems you had in beta

MO is a little less PVP focused than and a lot more PVP focused than SW:ToR or Vanguard.

I know very little about SW:ToR other than the apparaent level of excitement surrounding it    From what I've heard about it, it is exciting and immersive, but very little sandbox element to it.

Vanguard continues it's tenuous existence. If you enjoyed it before, you'll probably find it much the same (and find that it continues to be much the same since, since there is little to no active development at this point)

Darkfall announced a major revamp (and possible wipe) back in July. They still haven't announced much specifics on that which is causing some unrest.  http://www.darkfallonline.com/blog/development-and-darkfall-2-0-update/

"All the talk of a new game, brought up speculation about a wipe and this is something we have addressed twice already. We explained that whether we wipe or don’t wipe, the game is so different that it’s of little significance. You should not think in terms of the current version of Darkfall when it comes to Darkfall 2.0. We have not made a decision yet and we’re evaluating several different scenarios that we will discuss with you. Darkfall 2.0 is a new game, however, it is also the new chapter of Darkfall."

Anyway, enjoy  SW:ToR.  If it doesn't hold you reassesss all three games then (MO, Darkfall, and Vanguard) since MO and Darkfall could both be significantly different (and Vanguard could be closed  image)

Just give the trial a shot and see what you think for yourself. As far as pve goes there isn't much there. The best thing to do is join an active guild to make the learning curve more bearable and be prepared to die alot. There are a couple guilds that mostly do trading and farming that might be more up your ally. It took me a few weeks to really start enjoying MO but I'm really having alot of fun now.

Vanguard has no pvp so why would you even consider going back to that?   :P   jk

Agree with the OP - best way to find out is to jump in and try the game again - the free trial is perfect for that.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask!

hope to see you back in Nave soon!

I dont have a MO subscription anymore due to several reasons but I will say MO beats DF anyday of the week. VG is first or second imo best themepark out there nowadays in a pile of facerollers. PVE in MO right now is not that great although the patch they are working on is adding mob AI, PVE is better than in the beginning though. . I may even come back to MO after that as long as exploitable mechanics are fixed for the most part.

I'm going to be honest here.  PVE is not Mortals strong point.  If you like crafting and/or pvp then Mortal Online is your best best.  If it's just PVE your after I would stick with a themepark MMO.

Last time I played... almost a year ago it was BAD..  From the forums and videos I am seeing, its still bad...  I doubt it will be much better than bad, which is just bad.     It could have been something good.

So much crap, so little quality.

Most people on these forums haven't played Mortal Online in more then a year but still comment about it.  I would just try the free trial and judge for yourself.

    Thanks for the questions!!

So we worked late into the night to patch TC onto live (with lots of other goodies too) Patchnotes can be found here

We have a couple of isses // Chronicles are not properly updating and House Vendors are spamming on top of eachother - which we didn't see on Test. Bah.

So we'll Hotfix today to resolve those two Issues.  I note we also had some seeding Issues for the US - most of that is not worked through - but it wasn't very smooth.

IN TERMS OF PVE - So right now this is not Mortal's Strong-Point.  But Sebbe and the rest of the team are pretty damn excited to be moving onto this full-time once we've clered up last couple of issues on live!

So, Within a couple of months - and we'll keep you up[dated as the coding progresses - MO will have som radically new Mobs both in terms of artwork and funtionality/AI's ability to do interesting and grightening things.

Might be work jumping back in now - so you're ready when we kick off?  Personally there will be the odd mobs that I'll miss after the refresh - heeh but not many.

    Thanks Everyone!!

Actually crafting isnt Mortal Onlines strongest area either.   Its pretty much flavor of the month, has been, still is, and will continue to be, until they finish the game mechanics.

You want crafting, play Ultima Online, or Fallen Earth, or even Eve.   You want a open world PvP game set on a map just slightly bigger than a Battlefield 2142 map then play Mortal Online.

And its not, "Best best."....  It would be "Your Best BET."

So much crap, so little quality.

Generally I agree with this. If you compare MO's crafting to themeparks its better because of the materials and gathering and different combos that can be made during creation.

If your comparing it to other sandboxes than MO isnt the best. There just arent that many crafting recipies out there. Can you make a chair for your house? No. Can you make a torch? No.   Can you construct fishing poles? No.  Can you make arrows? Nope.

A couple things I wished MO focused on besides the PVE, is fluff and crafting.

If youre a PvEr you will not find much fun in MO atm, to put it simply the AI is balls. Theyre about to put some heavy effort into fixing that and doing an overhaul of the AI so you should keep an eye on it and try it a month or two after that patch is released imo. If you try the PvE now you will just get scared away.

I was never impressed by MOs crafting system tbh, prefering a themepark one over it. I like balance over the illusive freedom of thousands of combinations of which only few are valid and rest are gimped. Not to mention that it lacks the variation in crafting, even themeparks got more interesting stuff to craft such as gizmos, vanity stuff, traps, ect.

Haven't they been working on the AI (and if I recall it's been "fixed" and "upgraded" multiple times) since launch?

No.  We’ve done numerous tweaks – and we coded the Greater Kimuru as a unique AI.

If you look at the other mobs in MO many of them act the same way that they have for an age – the Greater Kimuru does not. He will chase you down and kill you – can teleport you and can stamp you into a puddle of blood ‘n guts (not seen him in-game?)

AI is a full re-write so expect migrating mobs and AI that will pick you up and throw you around and all kinds of interesting things.  The meshes / artwork have been under production for a very long time so there is a large back-catalogue of work waiting to go in once the code is right.

Has Kimuru been recoded then? cause I can remember a lot of videos showing that this mob had zero AI and was really easy to kill once you understood the right strategy.

Nope the Kimura still only moves in a 20-30 foot circle and teleports you to him if you are in range.  Aq frequently kills him with a siege weapon staying out of teleport range.

I find it funny Thiea boasting about the AI of the kimura.  It seems it was coded by a person who did not know what he was doing.  He does not move out of that circle he will not chase you out of the circle.  And they teleporting you to him was them covering up that he won't chase you.

3-5 people staying out of range can kill him.  It will take a while but done right you do not have a chance of getting teleported to him or dying.  I may be wrong because AQ holds that area pretty well, but I do not think the Kimura attacks the siege weapon hitting him.

It may help make more sense of MO's AI if you knew it was mostly written by a student intern in his summer holiday at SV. He mentions it on his LinkedIn etc. Don't have link handy but sure someone could find it if Theia denies it.

That is why it's so terrible, and I was really hoping Theia would post a Kimeru video for us all to laugh at ;)

yup that's pretty much what I had read and seen on footage. In summary, the Kimuru has lower AI then raid targets in 1999 Everquest.

    Here you go.

It is AQ farming the Kimuru with a catapult.  The AI is so good it does not go after the seige weapon doing 1000x more damage than anything in the room.  To this day AQ still farms the Kimuru like this last time I ghost scouted.

Mind you the first time it was killed was by 3 guys who stood out of the teleportation range with bows.  It took 8 hours but the AI was so "great" the Kimuru did not go after the guys.  It could not move out of the circle they have it stuck in.
