if you don't try it out you will have no good justification for trolling these forums about the game. And if not to troll then why bother with these forums at all?

    All die, so die well.

lol, i agree with the OP rating of games but i would not place rift and swtor in the same context. they may act the same but the experiance is completly diferent.

No, it's really not. Look past the voice-overs and lightsabers. It's the same loot treadmill style game with the exception that there is no dynamic content at all.

If Rift scored a 2 for the OP, SWTOR will score a 1.

lol dynamic. dynamic what? you mean the rifts that open up in the same spot over and over and dissapear if you fail. dynamic is such markating buzz word. nothing in rift is dynamic.

I agree! Rift could actually make truly dynamic content but they don't. Rifts and invasions remain a side-dish to the usual loot treadmill that is grinding raids and battlefronts.

SWTOR isnt a loot treadmill.... loot is way in the back seat if you actually play the game. story far and away is the entire point of the game. you are beaten over the head with it at times.

All MMOs have stories. The only difference is that in this game someone reads the quest text for you rather than you having to read it on your own. Just because you didn't read the stories in World of warcraft, Rift, Aion, etc., doesn't mean they didn't exist.

When you hit level 50 you complete your class quests and the story ends. All that's left is the loot treadmill, just like every other uninspired MMO on the market.

You can put two of them together and make a waffle sandwich, or maybe even construct a miniature waffle house to rival your friend's gingerbread house.

Waffles are both casual and hardcore friendly, and nobody seems to care in that regard.  Waffle aren't gear dependant...you can be wearing your PJs or a business suit.

And let me tell you about the simplistic beauty of the Waffle UI. It's a fork. If you want to customize your Waffle UI, you can add a knife.

    Waffles. Yep.

Have you played KOTOR?  If so, what rank would you give it?

I liked Guild wars story and the fact I could do some of it with companions.  In that regard, SWTOR isn't far off.  So it depends a bit on why your GW rating was what it was, and why your Rift rating was what it was.

TOR is not unlike Rift in many general senses, but the games play a bit differently (but both are still VERY clearly themeparks)...

Based off other games you have played and what there mechanics are I would say no. Without the hater thing WoW = Rift = SWTOR as far as game mechanics and PvP go.

If you hate rift, haven't even played WOW then I don't see why you'd like SW:TOR.

I voted yes, just because its win/win.  If you like it, then it was money well spent and we put you on the path to fun.  If you don't like it, you can come back and complain/bash and I can pop some popcorn and watch the tears of anguish and the hordes of fans bash you for buying a game you "obviously" wouldn't like and the haters coming on and defending your decision to buy it "to give it a fair shot despite reservations."

from one old school AC Darktide player to another let me explain a few things before you get this game in regards to PvP.

first off it is NOTHING and i mean NOTHING like AC,  There is tons of CC so when you fight multiple people get ready to be in Pinata mode getting beat on till your dead. its not like the good old days of fighting multiple people and if your good you can beat them, because of all the CC any 2 noobs can just lock you down and kill you.

There are some mini games that are fun for awhile, and i didnt get to try any open world pvp but i imagine its just like all the other 2 faction games when it comes to that. and this is only in surtan areas there are plenty of safe places for people to quest and hide.

so if you are looking at this game for PvP dont say you wernt warned if u hate it. but if you are just looking to have some fun and kill time, try it out i had a good time in it you might also.

but you have to take it for what it is, a thempark PVE game with some pvp.

  • TealaTeala Member RarePosts: 7,627

Since I see you gave AC Darktide 10/10 (I too am an old school AC Darktide player) this game and it's combat is nothing and I mean nothing like AC.   Plus you gave games like Aion and Rift low scores...yeah, stay as far away from SW:ToR as you possibly can - this is not your type of game.

  • KidonKidon Member UncommonPosts: 399

Would u miss out on the Star Wars movies just because someone told u that the first 2 suck? it is an MMO about Star Wars play it or regret it.

  • SinakuSinaku Member UncommonPosts: 552

Sorry to put this but by your ratings and games you've tried you should look at Vanguard, not really trying to push the game on anyone just a suggestion of something you may like.

  • AzariaAzaria Member Posts: 318

Your scores say you primarily like PVP games to me, but your dislike of AION also means you like communty I would have to guess, or race variety, or any number of things. If you only give RIFT a 2 out of ten, no way you should play TOR. You should wait for GW2, L3, possibly something like Tera since you like pvp but not in a cutthroat pure Sandbox style, you like polish I would guess, nothing wrong with that. PVP is TOR is much like RIFT only slower and the talents copy each other til redundancy much like the many skills of Darkfall, its a pointless double threat, certainly wont peak you interest for skill or for theorycrafting, the TOR set up on PVP is good for niether.

  • TerranahTerranah Member UncommonPosts: 3,575

Looking at your history it seems you are a serious mmo player.  This is THE mmo everyone will be talking about.  Do you really want to be left out.

The only way you should not play is if $60 is a lot of money for you.  If it is then no, don't play any more mmos until you have  a better job.

  • LoekiiLoekii Member Posts: 430

Voted 'Waffles', simply because I think you should simply wait until say March.

By March, we will know the good/bad/ugly of TOR, and if it is just another failed MMO, or if they actually have something.

No need to rush out and buy it now.  There are some great games out there to keep you occupied.

Go play Skyrim or Batman for the next few months, and then make a decision about TOR.

And as others have said, by March, GW2 might be the next MMO game to look at, and what you should focus your attention on.

I wanted to like Aion and Rift, but both failed to hold my interest beyond a few hours in beta.  SWTOR engrossed me immediately.  Will that happen for you?  I can't say.

    image

  • aesperusaesperus Member UncommonPosts: 5,135

Based on your MMO history alone, I would say this game won't really hold your attention. It's far too similar to all the games you gave really low scores to.

I had fun with it during beta, but it still follows the same trend as rift, aion, etc. Really, you only have 3 questions to ask yourself on this one.

    1) Would you mind playing another themepark?

    2) How important is story to you?

    3) How badly do you want to play a star wars game?

If your answer is positive to more than 1 of the above, you will probably enjoy this game well enough to justify spending 50-60$ on it. If not, then the game will basically just be the 'newest MMO' to you, and it will be difficult to really enjoy it.

Sorry but, I think you're missing the point.
Two weeks isn't enough time to get a zone filled with 50s ready to PvP, lol. You're being a tad unrealistic. This isn't WoW where people race to the end.

Ilum isn't supposed to be a copy of WoW's battlegrounds. If you really think TOR was made to grab all WoW's customers, I think you have it confused with Rift and it's "You're not in Azeroth anymore" campaign.

This game is for people who like a complete MMO, not just for PvE'ers or PvPer's. People will enjoy the story and not try to race to fill up the PvP zone. When they get there, they get there.

The reason people have your mentality regarding fast leveling is the games they usually play are BORING PvE and makes them read quests which is wrapped in dry-ass lore/story. Since the people don't care about the story, they want to get the hell out of the leveling zones.

ToR brings along people with the idea that YOU are your character. You are not someone watching pixels.

Read the title of the video again then actually LOOK at the zone, then figure in the two week period you just gave it to be "desolate" and realize what type of player you must be:

SWTOR - Ilum - End Game PvP Planet
