Richard Garriott has officially jumped the shark. He's such an egomaniac now, I think he's purposely trying to create the dumbest games imagineable just to prove his name is enough to sell them. Strangely enough, however, I could see how a game like this would be very successful as a facebook game a la Farmville. But man, Garriott....oh, how the mighty have fallen.

LOL, yeah completely agree - He has become a joke. Facebook games? Seriously? He has gone from working on the best games in the industry to this?
I think you are right Cthulhu23 - he doesnt need to work, he has millions. He's just doing it to boost his ego

i sure hope it is for g+and not freaking facebook i have been out from facebook for a while for obvious reason!
Nope its facebook.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Considering the popularity of shows like Auction Hunters and Storage Wars, I'm not surprised.
This sounds like a simple, Zynga style game that's meant to appeal to people who watch those auction shows on TV. It's not for hardcore gamers at all. It's more for the Facebook crowd.
Garriott is in it to make money, and I think that this game is in a better position to generate revenue than 90% of the MMOs released in the last year.
"Garriott's own experiences do play into the design of Ultimate Collector. Many of the available items will be from his own collection of ephemera, including space memorabilia, "quack medical devices," and of course shrunken heads. And all of the real-world items will come with information about their provenance."
Wow. Mr. Garriott, please just LEAVE the gaming business completely, as you're clearly not mentally fit to be designing games any longer.
How the hell does the mind behind one of the greatest RPG series' of ALL TIME become so addled as to think this is a good idea? I think this may prove that too much time in space kills brain cells. It should certainly be considered a possibility.
Sad thing is, all he had to do was come up with a 'spiritual successor' to UO and just watch the money start rolling in. Instead, we get garbage like this.
Well, if he makes it a kinda poor facebook-game (and by that I mean cheap) then he can probably turn a profit. People nowadays seem to buy any crap they run across.
Thats actually somewhat brilliant depending on how he implements it. Personally I won't touch Facebook. Though I definately see the Player Housing as the center of the game with various quests/adventures (ala garage sales, shopping sprees) being appealing as I see players doing that in other more comprehensive/content rich games. Though there are Virtual Worlds that basically do the exact same thing and to a high level of detail.
It does come across a whacky concept but then he always was a concept guy and the whackiness may actually help it stand out as something fresh & different. Looks shallow though, a mini-game not a full game.

Yep...this sounds about right...
Are we sure this wasn't something The Onion dreamed up recently?
Because that's how it read.
I'm actually kind of embarrassed for him if this is real, which unfortunately, seems to be the case.

For a man who has funded himself to visit the ISS, it's hard to believe it's about the money but he goes out of his way to make us think otherwise.
I sincerely hope he enjoys what he's doing, because I know I wont be.
Ugh. I just went to his facebook page. Looking at his posts the guy is gone out of his mind.
My theme song.

Well I am not playing any facebook games, but is is kind of funny seing him doing 'garage sale' facebook game.
Kinda cannot decide if it is sad or funny.
Both propably.
So I've got this rubber boot that I'm looking to sell. Will I be able to sell it through his game, or do I only sell virtual boots?
I'm only asking 5 bucks if anyone wanted to know.
It's a Size 10 L.

Who cares about credibility when you've got millions like our ol' Garriott here?
