The guy's a genius. Mixing facebook addiction with the stupid trend of watching pricing gameshows and pawn shows (seriously America, we went from Star Trek TNG to Pawn Stars? You're stupid idiots) and making bank on it.
He's an older guy now and honestly this type of game mechanic is what he does best. Even back in the day.
I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.
So he got rich... Turned into a Hoarder, spending millions at garage sales on useless junk to pile in his massive house... went bankrupt, and decided to make a video game, combining his old obsession with his new addiction, how clever.
Richard Garriott has officially jumped the shark. He's such an egomaniac now, I think he's purposely trying to create the dumbest games imagineable just to prove his name is enough to sell them. Strangely enough, however, I could see how a game like this would be very successful as a facebook game a la Farmville. But man, Garriott....oh, how the mighty have fallen.
Man, Garriott jumped that shark years and years ago. The man you once called Lord British died with the 90s.
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." (First Lieutenant Clifton B. Cates, US Marine Corps, Soissons, 19 July 1918)
It's okay. It's okay... Though I definitely don't see UO2 happening in this lifetime.

Say what you want... Love it or hate it he'll probably make a billion dollars off of this and be laughing all the way through the bank and back into space again... LOL
I think its dumb but its really smart. the mmo/fps gamer market is tiny compared to the social/casual game market. casual card playing sites see way more users than traditional games. all those stay at home moms/dads and people who like fast easy to learn games that can be done on a phone far exceed those who sit infront of a pc and tv for hours. the social gaming market is just in its infancy and we are going to start seeing a lot more games trying to tap into these billions of potential players.

I have no doubt he'll make alot of money after this. Why do you think there's so much development going along for these types of games? Casual money is where it's at. MMORPGs were just a tip of the iceberg.
Now, he can (well, TBH, he likely will) make alot of money off this venture, but it doesn't mean the RPG and MMORPG gamers and fans that know about and / or follow his activities will call this a great achievement worthy of his past glories.
Again, Lord British died a long time ago. There's a Jester sitting on the throne now.

It´s just a typo. It is Ultima X Collector´s Edition: Rage Tale DLC or something like this.

The things you do to get out of this planet... That guy has lost all his credibility around serious games. Now all that is left is facebook games.

I honestly thought he would make a deep engaging game, even if on facebook..then he does this.
