ArcheAge - Why do people speak as if this game will see NA soil?

SkillCosbySkillCosby Member Posts: 684

ArcheAge seems to be the only game so far that has combined the prominent features of Theme Park and Sandbox. It's great to actually look forward to some innovation or at the very least something different. The only problem is that this is an Asian game.

Did they ever officially say that they will release in NA / The West?

If you think thats a problem,, go play the easymode western games.

Like it or not Asian games do attract a lot of western gamers too, cause NA games especially MMORPGS aren't what they used to be.  The game isn't even released in Asia for now so I doubt we'll see it until 2013.

We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!

I'm not slamming the game because it's an Asian-developed game. I'm just saying that OUR problem is that it's not here in the west.

I want a long and grindy game.

We want to make sure that we do everything necessary to ensure the success of ArcheAge in these markets. We do not want to prematurely invite American or European players to the beta test. At the same time, we know how important it is not to delay it too long. So maybe after we have tested it somewhat in the Korean market and the development team has taken a breath."

Oh sorry then yeah I agree, would love testing it out I really don't understand why they don't allow us playing the beta just with an english language pack (Aion did it).

Heck I would even play it with chinese letters, just let us test it :-)

They're really saying all the right things about this game... if they deliver, it will be an amazing experience that could keep me satisfied for years.  That being said, I'm not getting my hopes up.

Easymode western games, just LoL. Did you remember AION, right? a game where a bot can do you job?, Thats easy mode, a braindless-grindfest MMO without content. Lotro, AoC and even Warhammer (a 100% PvP game) was way more challenging than any Korean MMO in the market. Endless grindfest, dont mean ¨hard¨.  AION was a huge fail in the west,  did you remember the merge in less that 6 months?. 6 months after launch and AION got the same number of servers of warhammer.

Whatever for me after Vanguard it was the best MMOG outthere. If you really think easymode games such as AOC, LOTRO or Warhammer were challenging than nothing to discuss here.

People already posted links and quotes but the short answer is yes, they did say that.  Many of the features in this game may even cater more to the West than Asia.

If I remember correctly, they did indeed say it will be coming to NA. That said, the beta has been going on in Korea for awhile and I haven't heard anything in a long time regarding something related to a release in other territories...hell they haven't even announced a publisher.

Considering how Asian games usually fair in western market it is a bit tricky to find a publisher. Also depends upon demand. If the company feels that there is market for games like AA and it would be a proftable venture a company in west will surely go for it.

How many servers SWTOR will launch with on release?

ShredderSE - Umm how many do they need? Maybe 6.
US, EU, Asian, France, German and Russian.
Subs will be so low there is no need for more
    Snoocky-How many servers?
The first 3 months a lot...after that 2 i guess, one for PVE and 1 for PVP...

Thorbrand - SWTOR doesn't have longevity at all. Might be one of the shortest lived MMOs.

  • DisastormDisastorm Member Posts: 318

TBH I think they are still mainly focusing on the game development, it doesn't really sound like they are searching that hard for a publisher in the West yet, although I'm sure they are probably have talks with some of them.  I really don't think ArcheAge will have a problem at all finding a publisher in the West, especially since it has been #2 most hyped mmo on mmorpg.com prior to about a week ago and will get back to that spot once Star Wars releases (since Star Wars won't be on the hyped list anymore).

Yeah but the problem is that if a company wants to release a game in west making a decision on basis of this wesbite would be bad idea. This website represents the minority of gamers world wide.

If you like grind games, may I suggest picking up a copy of "A Job", all Real Life Stores sell it, and all it costs is your time.

Seriously what is with this mentality of "I just got home from work, now lets do some more work, but lets call it 'fun' because its in a video game."

I want to play a game for real Fun, something that gets my heart racing or makes me laugh or just leaves me nodding my head thinking "That was cool...".

I dont want to come home and play a game and be left thinking; "I need to farm some ore tomorrow so I can make a suit of armor, so I can be competative in PvP, then I'll farm some gold so I have a huge stockpile of cash so I can buy more ore to make the new armor when the next patch comes out." - That... yeah... thats just dumb, No thanks....

Dont think they have officially said anything or maybe they have.. but that fact the hole world is pretty hyped up about this game already they would have to be a bunch of retards not to

it will take some new hardware with them running the cryengine 3, if it is anything like Aion, then I will be loving this game bunches since I love aion.  Wonder how system hungry this game really is.

My friend. Looks from your post suggest you would enjoy console gaming. Mmo don't sound right for you. mmos are about work a lot because its suppose to be a real experience. Going out hunting, gathering, doing some daily.task. that's apart of a mmo experience and I really wish that people would get that because people that want. Fast fun are ruining mmos with thier dominate numbers and influence on devs making this once great market crap.
  • bobfishbobfish Member UncommonPosts: 1,679

It will turn up in the west eventually, but I don't see it happening until 2013 or later.

The issue is the sheer amount of money they want for the license, no publisher is going to spend that on a license when they could make their own MMO for the price. So we'll likely see the same thing as TERA, where BHS set up En Masse to publish for them in North America, XL Games is likely to set up their own small publishing arm for the west too.

Which is better for us anyways, always much better to deal directly with the game developers than a third party.

I would be surprised if this hit the west before 2014.

I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.

lil off-topic, but AoC has the most challenging dungeons in any mmo by far. there are very few gamers actually, that have beaten all of the content (and not only because of silly bugs :P ).

I like Skyrim, so that sort pokes a hole in your Theory.

Yes Skyrim has grinding elements, but the difference is I am not forced to do those grinding elements, I can just go exploring and kill stuff, and the quests and dungeons are quite entertaining.

Then I have my console games, which consists of Uncharted (1,2, & 3), Borderlands, Batman Arkham Asylum & City, Marvel vs Capcom, LA Noire and Assassin's Creed (1 & 2).

Could be that I just do a little more research on my games than others and know how to recognize whats fun for me, and not what I've been told is fun? Hmm?

EDIT: To elaborate, I find most MMO's entertaining because they provide a sense of community, and that what I look forward to most in the genre when I see a new title announced. If you can make resource collection or other meanial tasks seem fun and rewarding by adding a community element to it, so I at least know my efforts are counting towards a greater goal... But if you force me to perform something to become competative or be on par with other players, I will just hate you for it and quit the game.

I know developing a good MMO takes time but in a couple of years it'll be obsolete. And no one wants to get hyped up over a game and be expected to follow it for any more than a year.

This maybe true for console games,  but good quality mmo's tend to stick around a long time.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Is what a solo player who cares only about himself and his ego would say... (not trying to have a go at you! so settle down!)

Games come and go, MMO come a little slower and go a little slower, and people like the longevity that most MMO's have.

Play MMO's like they're meant to be played; with other people! friends, family and coworkers. Create those fun moments and memories, the strength of your character should come second to the strength of your friendships... It's when MMO's create a rift between the two that I just shake my head and move on.

Yes, the main guy has said the mmo was being made with the west in mind, to bring it to NA.  He said that was a main goal all along, in a video I watched like a year ago.
