I would give this game a serious attempt if there was people to group with along to way to max level. But since Sony is going to take another 2 years b4 i goes Free to play ... ill probably be hooked up to Diablo 3 or Tera or GW2 by then. Even Lineage 2 is doing EXTREMELY well with their Free to play option. people spent more money on the game in a month than they would have paid within a whole Year of subcription and ..... the funny thing is that Lineage 2 isnt as good at Vanguard.

Well ... I would know quite a lot of things Vanguard could learn from Lineage 2:
- Simple but beautiful manga character graphics (at least for human, elf and darkelf), albeit Vanguard has its strength there too (more realism, much more races, no graphics change if different race equips same armor)
- Beautiful gnomes. Wait, that was female dwarves. Okay, beautiful female dwarves then. Who look like gnomes.
- Overenchanting instead of soulbound to keep the economy running
- Nontiered crafting ressources - even newbies can collect ressources that maxlevel still have use and need for
- Awesome PvP, including PvP hitpoints (hitpoints only used during PvP in order to make PvP battles more interesting), meaningful mass PvP events (castle sieges), arena, olympiad, much better system to handle playerkilling, etc
- A number of great class concepts missing in Vanguard which have been present in L2, such as the Tyrant (monk with some spells and great selfbuffs such as runspeed), the L2 Necromancer (very different from VG Necro, kinda reminds of the old VG Sorcerer implementation before the nerf), the Warlord (melee area damage specialist), the various summoners (I especially like the Unicorn summoner, elven "Elemental Summoner"), Sword Singer (defensive variant of the Bard) etc.
But ... free to play ? Why is that special for Lineage 2 ??? L2 is like the last game that came up with that, many others did it before.
Yes many games went Free to play But Lineage 2 did it right... its truly free to play
Now Lineage 2 servers are Packed with people and NCsoft is earning Big money from the cash shop.
there was 2 server with light population and now they have 6 servers with extremely heavy population
they were getting minimal cash from subscriptions and now getting MASSIVE amount of money.
seriously Lineage 2 isnt as good as Vanguard gameplay wise. Yes of course Lineage 2 as a lot of good points compared to Vanguard like ( their pvp ) But the Gameplay is reallllly bad. If you are a caster expect to spam the SAME button over and over
and over ..... AND OVER ............................ and over and over ..... anndddddd ...... ooooo .... vvvvv ...eeeeee .....rrrrrr
AGAIN.... and AGAIN and again... and then .... AAAAAAGGGGAAAAIIINNN and once that is done ... u will press it again and again
AND AGAIN. AND AGAIN AND AGAIN ....
ok i think you get the point ?
here if you are a skilless person that likes to click on their skills instead of using keybindings. If you arent a very competitive person that likes to rely on stats and gear instead of human skill. Then go Faceroll the grind fest of lineage 2.
What i am saying is that Vanguard has a better gameplay but i understand that lineage 2 outside of the gameplay did EVERYTHING right.
VG has as much to learn from Lineage2 as TBC era WOW did from Warhammer.
Except the slut-elves, those are okay.
I just wanna play a populated Vanguard atm ... but im not going to pay to play an empty game i would rather play populated free game with cash shop than an empty game with subsciption.
Vanguard and Lineage2 were good games untill they took an arrow to the knee.
Yep L2 has a good F2P model. But Vanguard wont adopt anything remotely like that. Look at the crappy EQ2 F2P model. Thats what Vanguard will get. They might as well cut off the life support already and save everyone the bother.
No good or capable Mage I've ever played with or against in L2 has ever spammed the same key over and over and over again as you characterize it. They have an arsenal of skills that they use in specific combinations, for specific situations. In addition, they know what skills to use "in a pinch" to help them out of a tight spot, etc.
They are most certainly not spamming the same key over and over again.
If you went up some of the mages I've known in L2 and tried the "spam the same key over and over again" approach, you'd quickly find your character dead on the ground.

I was talking about the grind sir! Why would i stun / debuff / snare / fear / use any quick cast non mana efficient nuke
in a situation where all i need to to cast from 1 to 3 spell and the mob is dead. ? OVER AND OVER AGAIN for the next century until the class awakening at 85 thennn the caster are getting some complexity but its kinda silly that it doesnt show until level 85 isnt considering it takes ages to get there for a somewhat new player ....oooo and im perfecly aware that the super duper lifer that has been playing the game for years is able to do it in a week but im talking for the majority of the people with a job a wife a kid or 2 and other things to do ( going to the gym ) or w/e
... no kidding.
Sorry, but thats not what I remember.
On higher levels, one had quite a number of different attack spells with different advantages that one had to combine.
Also, there was mana management. For example my Spellhowler had to do life to mana and lifetap spells once in a while to avoid downtime. There was also a great attack spell that dealt a lot of damage if your life was running low, which was quite fun until death penalty would go too severe.
It still doesnt compare to Vanguard where you have a ***load of different attack spells.
But actually the Vanguard Sorcerer was for a long time a lot simpler than the L2 Spellhowler, because it was literally just Chaos Volley, Chaos Volley, Chaos Volley until your life would run low.
Fine. So you're discussing PvE. Regardless, same thing applies.
Again, that's how you and, certainly, some others choose to play. It's not the most efficient or even most effective way to play in many situations. PvE or PvP.
I notice many people in MMOs have this conceit where they believe however they're playing the game is "how it's supposed to be" and immediately blame the developers or the game itself if they find it boring or ineffective. But it never occurs to them to mix things up or try something different. Those who love to complain about MMOs being "endless level grinds", for example, never consider doing something besides "endlessly grinding levels". Instead they blame the developer for "forcing them to do it", as though there were no other options available, which there always are.
But I digress...
I've been leveling a mage (going up the Spellhowler > Stormscreamer route), and I have found myself changing tactics and using different spell combos for each different mob I fight, and having to think fast on my feet when I get a bit overwhelmed. I've survived situations where I had 3 mobs on me at once - one being an archer (which are lethal to a mage) - and I had to think on my feet to pull out of it. If I played as you describe, spamming the same spells over and over again, I'd have been dead.
Sometimes I slow them, sometimes I have to sleep them for CC, sometimes I just nuke them down when possible. I use specific combos for different mobs. Even when it comes to fighting the same mobs, I can't always rely on the same spell combo because sometimes they resist and I have to fall back to another skill to make up the difference... especially if the one resisted is on a longish cooldown and I don't have time to wait for it to recycle.
Some of the seasoned "career long" casters I've known have absolutely boggled the mind with what they were able to pull off by themselves... seemingly effortlessly. They were doing a lot of different stuff, and none of it involved spamming the same spells over and over again.
So I'll say it again... No good or capable mage I've ever known has ever played the way you describe.
If that's how you choose to play, then fine. That's your choice. Just don't confuse how you choose to play with being "the only way to play the game". And further, don't blame the game when your choice of playstyle isn't enjoyable to you, even though there are other options available to you.
