SWTOR hits the British press again: S&M "shocker" outrages non gamers!

Yes it's the paper I read each morning at breakfast again and I came across another article involving sith lords and some electro S&M that was "shocking" some people that need to realise there's worse being transmited on daytime TV in the UK (Jeremy Kyle anyone?)!

realy a sad article if you ask me...
I have been a gamer since i was 9 years old and horror fan since i was about 12 years old.
I am 36 now.
Never have i had the tought of doing anything like this in real life......EVER.
Ingame i am one of the most sadistic, violent persons around when it comes to roleplaying (sometimes i DO play a good guy too help just about everyone on his path too...but mostly not
).
But thats just ingame, has nothing to do with real life.
In real life i get along with just about enyone i meet, respect everyone in real life and always in a good mood and friendly.
When are people going to get it that a game is just a game and not every gamer is a potential mass murderer?

I've killed and dismembered millions of npcs over 20+ years of gaming career. Never killed a real person.
I did get a kick out of the electric shock collar my sith warrior had for her slave twilec. I liked to shock her just for fun. I was RPing an evil sith so I was getting into my role.

As a Jedi, i rescued some twi'lek girls mother for cash, slept with her, then killed her family before her eyes, then promptly threatened to report her to the authorities for something, if she didn't pay me all her money.
Got some cool Dark Points for that, some of the evil options are mad lol.
Though last night made me chuckle, some guy sent me on a mission to rescue his "babies", which turned out to be toy dolls. He says when i turn it in "did you find my babies"...i chose "Here's your babies "[Smash them on floor]. Evil lol

I suppose, some people think that you shouldn't even enjoy and pursuit such things no matter what. However, ventilating your "darker but not so dark" side in a game is a reponsible way to tackle those thoughts/feelings.
Are you jokeing I make my slave dig her own hole to stand in for a few hour at least 2 time every few months and and on other things. I dont do shocking on my sex slave ut many master do I just dont find it to enjoyable - a small shock to it's belly when im inside her. Anyways im not going to go in to it from possablity to get banned but long story short the ingame slave stuff is LITE PLAY.
Master and slave's have been doing this for a vary vary long time if she dose not enjoy it she can say stop slaves hold the power not the master.
Starting the day with Newspaper every day is one way to be robbed of your own thoughts and the mindset you would have had for the day with one fabricated by some editor and his goons that's nothing but, some spin, a sprinkling of half truths, and a lot of lies, and paying them for the privilege. Look how they affected you, they've affected you enough with this BS out of the mind of a newspaper employee to fill a column to come here.
Nose first thing in the newspaper people are the zombies minds for these Newspaper companies to profit by shovelling mostly shit in to their minds each day and they keep coming back for more like lab rats. They don't have their own opinions any more, only that of the newspaper they read, put there by agents of influence working for political parties. Do yourself a favour and don't put money into the pockets of the scum behind Newspapers today, especially the UK ones.
There are always idiots out there complaining about the violence in video games and whatever other nonsense. Then when they are done they go off to watch the newest SAW movie like the hypocrites they are.
It is pretty intense and definitely not appropriate for children.... to whom this game is also sold.
It is rated T for Teens in the US, that I think is an outrage as many many MANY of the themes being presented are really mature.
At least in Europe it is rated 16+ that is a more reasonable rating, but considering Grand Theft Auto gets a 18+ in Europe and a Mature stamp in the US, that would have been more appropriate because even in GTA you do not own slaves, abuse and torture them and even sexually harass them.
It seems to me the rating agencies should review their priorities and stop to look for graphical displays of violence when the mental ones are way more serious and possibly damaging.

Maybe that's because certain people just don't (/can't) roleplay and don't understand that one could go without the other. I for one am a "carebear" in RL, and very much so in the games I play, too. I guess it's due to me not really roleplaying (another character). Even if I try to play evil, I usally don't have the heart to pull through. Even if it's only a game!
Though I don't take this as a reason to condemn people who can do. It's just a game after all.
I believe it's for the parents to decide if it's appropriate or not for their children and to be honest you'll probably see alot worse on facebook than playing SWTOR in my opinion. I allow my 14 year old son to play SWTOR (he has a sith assasin) yet I have facebook, myspace and twitter ISP blocked.
I agree that the subject matter is mature but I think each parent has to decide for themselves but many parents don't take an interest in their child's activities today which is why bad things happen, not because bad things exist.
Besides is there a married man that at some point didn't want to put a collar around his nagging wife and just "Give her some juice"?

Thats what i am saying.....i AM an old school roleplayer for many year.
But the role ingame is the complete opposite of me in real life.......ingame i realy love to hurt things.....be it animals, men, woman, aliens or kids......i'll kill them all ingame if i am playing an evil char.....and i do enjoy it...realy i do, BUT its only ingame.
I can watch horror movies all day long and realy smile while seeing all that killing but if you send me a youtube link where a dog or any other living creature get hit by a car......i'll pass, i realy dont want to be looking at violence that is REAL.
Thats the difference.....game or reality.
the fact that you even feel guilty ingame for hurting the pixels makes you a very good person in real life imho.
The game is not rate e for everyone its rated t for teen. By 13 I knew about sex and violence and death as well as every profane word in the book. My parents while not the greatest role models by far made sure I knew the difference between right and wrong. The fact that parents today are lacking in parenting skill is just a sign of our society. If a parent saw this and did not have a talk with there children about the diffence between reality and a game then that person does not deserve to be a parent.
I mean my god I watch tv and I see the following...Cheating wives, tranys, Murder, rape, incest, molestastion, and police state violence. How the hell in a world like we live in can any one ever claim some sort of moral outrage for behavior we bombard our population with being present in a game. Its insane.
And personally I would do the same in the game cause it leads to more dark points which boost up my attacks.. So really there is no ground to stand on a moral outrage over this....
Personally I would be more outrage by seeing articles about people trying to feed the homeless being arrested for doing it...Oh yeah That happens here in The United States of America. We have cops beating protestors, We starve and arrest the homeless, while creating more homeless. And yet the USA has never been charged with human rights violations....WHAT KIND OF BULLSHIT IS THAT....Game is bad for some digital depravity and violence but the usa is ok for beating and starving its people......Its a sad and messed up world.

It depends on how cynical people are. If they believe that that the grand majority is capable of both good and evil and can enjoy doing evil under correct circumstances, then they can't really condemn them. In that sense, it is just healthy and responsible to let out your less honorable sides in a game rather than supressing them or letting them come out elsewhere.
I suppose it also depends on precisely why the person in question likes roleplaying as a "bad person". There is a difference between genuinely enjoying the illusion of causing harm and just enjoying crafting a story and persona.

I am against this. I didnt know this and my gaming experience was quite neutral so far. But lately i read more about the whole companion romance and it seems i am almost done with SWTOR. This is retarded.
Honestly, i dont care if some likes men, women, both, skinny, fat, dom or sub. But pixel crap is perv at its best.

SWTOR must be doing well if the Snail is running another slimy story on it so soon.
My mum reads the Mail and whenever she goes on a rant about something on the phone I ask her if it came from 'her paper' and then disregard it. It's a fun read as long as you know they're all about casting around for things to be indignant about.
So now it's 'oh noes teh slavery and S&M lightning' - and weirdly, it'll probably have half their readers out looking to buy a copy of the game asap. Just so they can get really indignant about it, y'know.
Manufactured outrage, it's fun as long as you don't take it seriously.
As I see it, Sith are evil, so what do you expect of an evil person? Damn censorship is ruining immersion...

I play a good guy, I just can't play an evil person for the life of me, I enjoy seeing people happy.
That said, it's called catharsis I believe, it's good for you and those around you.

The point I think he's making is that there are adults everyday all over the world role playing master and slave in consensual real life bondage sessions. Consenting adults are beating and whipping each other now as you read this and both the slave and master are enjoying the experience. So why get your knickers in a twist about some pixels slapping some pixels then commanding your pixels to electrocute the "slave" pixels (aren't all pixels/companions our slaves anyway)?
Why not show outrage towards those doing it in real life? Because children might be playing the game? What about the little boy that pulls legs off the spider one by one in the playground? Isn't he actually inflicting pain upon another living being and taking pleasure in the agony? Shouldn't we start our crusade there?
What I believe is that the people really outraged by this and profess it publicly are probably the ones that are into something far worse or are afraid of those skeletons in their closets so they defelect attention to someone playing a computer game. Moral outrage over SWTOR? Are you ****ing kidding me? I've seen adverts for television programs in this country that shocked me (no pun intended) more than SWTOR *ahem* geordie shore *ahem* and no I didn't watch it because I could feel my IQ drop about 30 points just from the advert!
