My favorite game- when I can play it

First off, I would just like to say that I love this game. I am a fanboy. I love all things Star Wars and this game gives me a feeling I haven't had since the early days of SWG. I realize that many of you have decided these are not the droids you're looking for, but for me, I've been having a blast since the first day of early access. That is, at the times that I can play.

You see, I live in the Pacific time zone and I work a swing shift. My time before work is usually spent running errands or taking care of things around the house, so usually the only time I can log in for a few hours is around midnight, which just happens to be the time in my time zone that Bioware usually shuts the game down for maintenance. I realize that this is a new game and I appreciate the fact that Bioware is trying to fix as many bugs as possible, but it seems to me that they are shutting down a bit early. Most MMOs I've played shut down their servers a bit later for maintenace(usually around 2 or 3am PST) and most of them seemed to have a pretty healthy server population up until those times. Am I the only one that would like to see Bioware push the mainetance times back a few hours?

Well, while I don't see how working the swing shift means that I have a crappy/unreal job(look into it, a lot of very important jobs require people to work all kinds of weird schedules), that really doesn't have anything to do with the point I was trying to make. I was saying that I understand that server maintenance is a necessary reality of MMORPGs, however, it seems that BW is starting theirs a bit early, in comparison to nearly every other MMORPG that I've played.

It's a fine line...when to bring the servers down...I'm pretty sure they're not targetting you though :D

However, they've also brought them down later (once last week was 5 AM CST) which affects a different subset of the population.  Unfortunately - no matter when you bring the servers down - it's going to affect 'someone's' prime time!

I agree with what you're saying, and I wasn't trying to imply that anything should be changed on my account. Just that perhaps it would be nice if BW did some research to find out when they would be affecting the smallest number of people. As I said before, I'm willing to bet there are more late night gamers than people playing earlier in the morning.

By what they said, that is exactly what they did. They picked a time when the least amount of people, from their data, was playing and put the maintenance there. Of course their data was incomplete as they started the maintenance immediately, so I suspect they used the data from the beta and not the actual launch or something.

But worry not, you are not alone as the maintenance time falls squarely on the European afternoon time, that affects many players. But I guess they were not playing either considering what Bioware said :P
