The real reason why people choose the "Darker" factions... (PICTURE)

Have you ever wondered why there are so many more people choosing the "Dark" faction as opposed to "Light"?

Is it because of they naturally enjoy chaos? NO. Is it because they thrive for slavery, pain, and suffering? NO.

It's because they look f***ing cool...

If the game MUST be faction based, then make all sides look cool. My goodness! This isn't rocket science.

    Nice :)

Odd, you got me pegged down to a science by only using pictures. What just happened O,,o?

Lies, I really do like slavery (I suggested it as a MMORPG mechanic), torture, and murder.  MMORPGs should allow us to explore our darker natures, it is just a game (part of the reason I think Eve is an awesome game).

    -But Imperials did always look cooler in SWG than the Rebel {mod edit}

--CCP could cut off an Eve player's fun bits, and that player would say that it was good CCP did that.

Haven't they ever heard that "good guys wear black"?

The only IP I can think of being made a mmo and that "Good" is badass is warhammer 40k

I know! There is a reason why Snake Eyes was one of the most popular G.I. Joes ever.

In general I agree the "bad guy" faction (I use quotes because lets face it, it WoW the Horde is really much less evil than the Alliance) generally look cooler. The pictures listed here, though....

Pic 1: Both look pretty stupid IMO

Pic 2: The "good" looks much cooler than the "bad". The "bad" looks like its trying too hard to be "bad", which is just kinda dorky.

Pic 3: Bad looks better than good

    Pic 4: WTF??

Hardly a startling new revelation; every two-faction game's had similar imbalances on PVP servers, and for the same reason.

I doubt it's conscious.  Just the way we've been trained (by movies, cartoons, etc.) to think of Badass as a visual presentation.

"Roll a new toon, hmm, I want to be a badass, so I think I'll pick this guy.  He looks pretty badass!" x a million or so.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

The Thundercats episode "Good and Ugly" from the original series made a big impression on me as a kid. A few years later I asked my grandmaster why he wore a black unfiorm while everyone else wore white. He looked at me and said "It looks badass and it's a lot easier to keep clean."

    Lessons to live by.

    There is NO miracle patch.

95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.

    Hope is not a stategy.

I personally see all those 'bad ass' pictures in the OP as corny and pretty cheesy, but I get his point.

Maybe thats why in games like Aion, where the 'light' side was as cool looking as the dark, you saw them dominate numbers wise a lot of the time.

I tend to play lightside characters in most games though, even if the looks might be a bit off in that particular one.

(it probably isn't worth noting, but in that EQ2 comparison, 3, that leather armour wasn't 'good' or 'evil'... either faction could wear it (as much as factions still exist in that game)

OP picked a really poor example to illustrate his point. All of those graphics look poor to me.

I would be careful with this :).

When you were  9 that zorro mask / cowboy hat + matching toygun probably made you think you were pretty badass too.

You really don't want to look back in a year and realise that wielding sparkly-red-lightsabers maybe wasn't that badass to begin with.
