I love crafting to an unnatural extent and since I haven't played Rift much yet I was wondering how in depth their system is. Currently the system I'm most familiar with is WoW (I've maxed every prof.) and while I'm guessing Rift's system is probably similar I was wondering if someone can give me some insight into how it works. Any information is awesome

I only played Rift into my mid 20's, but far as I can tell both from trying crafting myself, the lack of crafted items in the auction house, and asking around ingame, except for making bags crafting is mostly pointless.
By the time you're able to farm the materials you could use to make equipment for your level, you've earned much better items from doing quests/rifts.
Crafting is rift is dull and pointless. Think of WoW crafting and thats what you get in rift. Infact its a identical copy of WoWs crafting system. There are a few recipes from the different crafting trees that are worth making but since they dumbed down the way you get crafting plaques(use to be hard to get unless you put alot of effort into getting them), EVERYONE can make EVERYTHING.
So in summation, rift crafting is the suck.
Agreed, unless there have been major changes since I last played crafting in Rift is the same "craft ten of these so you can train up to craft ten of the next thing and train up again" crafting that is for the most part useless. For the majority of the time I played the AH was saturated with crafted leveling gear to the point prices had been undercut to the point profit was impossible. Most trades are moneysinks, and nothing more.
Runebreaking was convenient if only to make slightly more gold than just selling items back to NPC merchants but it only takes one or two people selling mats on the AH to saturate the market. To be quite honest the only tradeskill that was worth my time was making potions, and even then it was only to keep my alts stocked with health pots for PvP.
Question then, is their any bonuses for being a Blacksmith over say anything else? Like Blacksmith only items or anything? Or do these bonuses not exist?

i dont understand what you mean. they have weaponsmiths and armorsmiths if thats what you mean. blacksmith doeent encompas it all.
Crafting in Rift is pretty much the same as WoW (I think cause I've never played WoW). I myself have crafted and it is incredibly easy to max up a profession at max level, once you've saved up enough platinum. Crafting Gear or Weapons in Rift are pretty pointless, because at most you can craft stuff that is Tier 1 Raid level and getting Tier 1 Raid gear is pretty easy, once you start raiding. Also PvP has it's own gear.
There are only 3 crafting professions that have any worth in the game:
Runecrafting - Crafts runes that you put on your gear and weapons to give a stat boost.
Apothecary - Crafts potions but the only useful ones are the ones that give a 1hr stat boost, through death.
Artificer - It's a jewel crafter but they also craft Powerstones that give a 4hr stat boost, through death.
I myself did Runecrafting & Apothecary becuase they are incredibly easy to level and make a ton of money with.
In WoW Tailors have leg enchants that they can only use on themselves. Blacksmiths can add extra gem slots to their gear only, Enchanters get ring enchants that can only be applied to their rings. Etc.
I wanted to know if each profession had something they could add to their own gear but not others.
