Turrets and Robots and Pets (oh my)

BlueProteusBlueProteus Member UncommonPosts: 85

So I was thinking that some of my favorite play styles involve things like building turrets and having robots (really a type of pet) that can be upgraded, etc.

I liked the engineer from WAR that dropped turrets, and I liked the class in CoX that had robots do their fighting. But population seems sparse in both games.

Anybody know of any other mmorpgs that feature anything like turrets and robots? I was hoping SWtOR would have had something like that, but it didn't seem to, unless I didn't spot it. (There were little healing droids, and one of your companions was a droid, but he didn't seem to want to fight much.)

Thanks for any ideas.

Playing: Various Stuff
Played: AC, AoC, ArcheAge, BDO, CoX, EQ2, Eve, GW, LotRO, Ryzom, SWG, SWtOR, Vanguard, WoW, Etc.

Have you tried Anarchy Online?  The game is pretty old now but honestly probably one of the best from controlling a robot is concerned.

Global Agenda robotics class was kind of cool. You can drop turrets for dps, there's a healing turret, and eventually you can 'build' a giant suit kind of like the mechs from the last Matrix movie.

    GW2

Race Asura can have robot suit.

Masters of mechanical mayhem, engineers tinker with explosives, gadgets, elixirs, and all manner of deployable devices. They can take control of an area by placing turrets, support their allies with alchemic weaponry, or lay waste to foes with a wide array of mines, bombs, and grenades.

CoH has an alright population imo, as long as you pick the right servers.

AO has an awesome pet system, both because of the pets and the skill system letting you use pets way above your level.

    Thanks for the replies.

AO: In a pinch I could try it, but was hoping for better graphics. I know it's got a lot of depth, but I've gotten kind of spoiled graphics-wise with Rift and some of the other newer games. But I may give it another try.

Global Agenda: Haven't tried it, will check it out.

GW2: Argh! Stop teasing me. I can't get into beta, so must wait. 8(

For CoX the most populated server is Freedom, followed by virtue. On both hero side is much more populated than villian. However, if you want villian epic power pools, you have to do a quest line on the villian side, however if your going to use one of the hero epic pools you can be either side, it doesn't have a pre-req. You can switch sides but you either have to buy that feature or sub to access it.

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

EVE has the drone ships if that sort of thing interests you. Sit back, grab an iced tea and watch your little robot friends work :)
