Good points. I look at this as a hobby. All I'm interested in is entertainment. If a game is entertaining, I have NO problem spending money on it. I really do not care if its P2P, B2P or F2P or some combination there of. I also have no problem with cash shops, as I WANT the Dev's to make money off of their hard work and investment. Then they are more likely to continue providing me the entertainment I'm looking for.
Some of the current generation of gamers have such an overblown sense of entitlement, that its ruining any chance of them enjoying just about any game that comes along. On top that that, many can't stand the thought that others might be enjoying games that they hate.
Back at you Wraithone. I agree with everything you say in your post above.
This 'overblown sense of entitlement' you mention is a common theme here. Although I obviously sympathise with some genuine player complaints I simply cannot fathom people who get so irate just because they didn't like a game they had planned on playing.

WoW-Clone products are not bad to the public. They sell, and they retain a fair amount of players look at aion holding 250-300k players before WoW that was a huge hit. This is the genre that sells, other genres don't sell so why produce them?

I mean if you do a good job cloning than ya but most of the time its so bad its...errr
But point is Tera isn't a WoW clone and thats a fact that most people don't seem to get or want to wrap their head around for some reason because i seriously get people telling me WoW is the first mmo -.- like really? A simple google would have proven that wrong.
I like this thread, and it's message. Congrats, FadedBomb, at being one of the few posters on mmorpg.com with an above-average IQ. I will be playing TERA, but with the full understanding that it is merely another three month time-waster like the past 500 MMOs I have played. $100-ish bucks for 48 or so hours of total playtime is still pretty damn cheap entertainment.
Also, you ARE forced to do questing for progression. Having the "freedom" of going off to kill random mobs for a TINY percentage of the XP you can get for doing quests is NOT "alternative methods of leveling". If you give people whom quest 20x more exp than people whom run around exploring & killing that IS forcing people to do quests. They literally punish you into questing for XP.
Seeing multiple flaws in your posts but I liked this one, been playing KTera and NA versions and you're not forced into questing. You can indeed level the old ways of grouping monsters also you can dungeon your way up also.
Feel free to hate on the game but do some more research.
Man thats really dissapointing to hear. I was hoping the game was going to be more open world and kind of sandboxish. I've been playing ToR and im so sick of it already because its all instanced and just a rehashed version of WoW.

You don't need too do research in order to see if a game is alot like WoW. You simply just have to play it, and compare the similarities...
thats like me saying I watched Lord of the Rings for a second time and then saying to myself "I need too do research if I'm to know if it's the same thing" you know how stupid that sounds?
@OP who cares if it's just a time waster for some people. it gives people a change of scenery and some different combat to play around with for a while.
if you enjoy wasting your money and playing it for a short time, over playing something that lasts for a few years then all the power to you. good luck in jumping to 10 more differnt mmo's, and spending hundreds of dollars until you find your new home.
Frankly most of us older ones have already done that. 10 years from now lets us know if your happy playing World of Warcraft over and over and over and over again in every new MMO that you get your hands on. Because you would feel the same way

Maybe you should have read up the game before declaring it a WoW clone, considering besides the quests, its nothing like WoW.

Your clear contridicting post confuse me. You obviously haven't played Tera so how can you say this game is a WoW clone ifyou enver played Tera?
Btw Tera is nothing like WoW beside your standared mmorpg stuff that every single mmorpg has. Tera is open world pvp, no faction, action combat, a political system unlike any other game. As for as dungeon goes every single game has dungeon and instant, WoW wasn't the firs tot do so nor will it be the last. So to say Tera is a WoW clone w/o ever even trying out the game just show how unwilling you are to change so stick to WoW please -.-
Just please, STOP with the "TERA is AMAZING, and will win a duel with GW2 every time!" threads. I don't like GW2 any differently than I like TERA, and in fact I've got PLENTY of criticism for GW2 as well. However, this type of self-denial hype will only trick other people into biased hype.
Thank you for reading,

GW2 MIGHT have a chance at retaining a large number past 3months, however I've not even tried the game yet beta or otherwise to give a definitive answer.
So you have a problem with people overhyping games like Tera, but you have no problems completely bashing a game you haven't even played yet? In your first post you put GW2 on the same lvl as you put Tera, basically telling us all what a crappy cloned game it is. Then, a few posts down, you tell us how you have never even played beta for GW2.
I personally think this is going to be a great game, 3 months is enough time for me personally. There will be several new good mmo's by the time those three months are up.
I enjoyed my time during J-TERA and liked playing again during closed NA beta #1. I can see myself playing for at least 2-3 months. I already know besides combat and a few things here and there that may have a new "twist" in them, nothing else is really new. The endgame content still needs to be fleshed out much more, so with the new update news Korea is getting, hopefully we will get it close to release date. If I am enjoying myself after the first 3 months then chances are I can see myself staying for a while. If not that's fine as well since I am interested in other online/MMORPG games as well!

Can't really even say he played Tera, i mean from the looks of it he got to lvl 11, playing for 2hr doesn't really give him any right to judge a game's future. and Tera doesn't even have much hype to it, compare to SWTOR and GW2 tera hype is nothing.
People are having the same "HoneyMoon" event all over again with TERA since they're only being given small "tastes" of the game with the CB events.
From an exhausted experience with MMO's I can tell you straight faced that TERA brings nothing new to the table EXCEPT for their combat system, and even THAT gets boring & repetitive after level 20.
Do NOT buy into the hype. TERA is EXACTLY like the WoW-Clone model we keep seeing reused over and over. Go to town A, get all the available quests from there, go kill X number of mobs or get X number of items. Once all quests are done in town A move to town B that is POINTED to by one of the last quests to be given in town A.
Rinse, Repeat, get max level in 2-4weeks, get bored. After 3months of eating ALL the content over & over you'll leave again for the next "Overly Hyped" product.
Trust this from someone who has been there, seen it, done that, and continues to watch as the same crowed makes the SAME mistake over & over only to make forum posts such as: "I'm leaving, heres why...". Unfortunately, we already KNOW why you're leaving before opening your post in our browser. It just took you some time to see what most already saw, and avoided thereby saving them $105 ($60 box + 3 months sub).
Just like SWTOR, Rift, Aion, Alganon, Runes of Magic, Warhammer Online, etc. TERA brings NOTHING new, and continues to same old clone model.
HOWEVER, if you're looking for just another "time waster" for a certain game you've had your eyes on (for me, it's Planetside II at the moment) & $105 isn't much for you to waste go right ahead & love TERA until it turns blue in the face !

What up FADED, you sound like a jaded fanboi of something else. I've been playing KTera for a while, and since you speak from 0 experience and just assumptions, I can safely say you're wrong. Hope you're not Frank, because if you are, not surprised at such a stupid post. Since you think TERA is such a clone that does nothing different except combat, I'll break it down for those that don't bother to pay attention:
1) Different way of enchanting and gear progressio
2) Very specific classes and roles with very unique abilities
3) Different way of introducing healers and hybrids than what you'll see in other MMOs. Look at Mystics, Priests (target healing/lock-ons), Lancers (active blocking), Warriors/Slayers (dodging).
4) Very different crafting, extracting, gathering methods (gives bonuses and campfire buff tokens), with no limits on what you can craft. They did think outside the box on crafting and it is fun iff you love to craft.
5) 5 man dungeon gameplay is awesome. Boss fights feel fun and different, positioning matters even on trash pulls, and looting gear drops is super-easy with autoloots to specific classes without any drama! Since all gear except armor is quite specific to class roles it makes it easy.
6) Travel is very well done in comparison to other games. Seamless zones when you travel on foot adds immensely to immersion and when you fly there is no loading screen either. The only time you get one is if you use a scroll for a fast recall. Between flight paths and teleports within adjacent zones it is easy to get around considering how big the world is.
7) Identifying items and random bonuses on drops makes for interesting combinations of gear.
8) Very well-done auction house system where all items are delivered to you via that menu and not a mailbox you have to run to. No timers to wait to receive or list items after sale or purchases. It is all very nicely streamlined with all the features you would expect to see.
9) ENORMOUS amount of bank space. I haven't seen anything like this in any MMO. You literally have like 5-6 bank tabs that holds probably 150 slots each tab? It's ridiculous how much you can store and it is all free right from level 1.
10) Crystal system.. This is just fun, period. Having the ability to modify your abilities with the uses of crystals is like enchanting your gear without permanently tying it to the gear allowing you to flip crystals depending what you're doing. These crystals also have a chance to break on death adding some risk to it which is great.
My understanding is TERA is being published by Frogster with a payment model. My opinion is that it will sell a lot of boxes, then fall flat on its face and fail abysmally because the only thing interesting about it is the combat. Then, it will go F2P, where the free nature of it will draw in far more interest at least as a casual, now-and-then game, and will only then find success and become the new standard of F2P MMOs in terms of graphics and gameplay.
Anyone taking bets out how long the F2P conversion will take, yet? I give it a year.
I'll give it 6 months, tops. Just another grinder with the same dated mechanics. The questing espeically is horrid, they couldnt come up with something new?

Well you indeed have a point on this, but i disagree on this case, you have the time to try the game before you buy it and if you find the same wow-clone so blatantly you have the right to not buy it.
Also is true that Tera, apart the combat, is the same themepark PVE concept based on HUB quest, absolutely, but is anyway something in the right direction, the combat system more tactical and active is the first step of this change. Before we have the same stagnant wow-clone with the same point & click skillfest, now we have a pseudo wow-clone with a better combat system, so is ok. If this game will have enought success more companies will follow a combat system like this. Indeed we need more steps to the true change on the genre, but the process will be gradual.
My advice is, support games that innovate in something at least and discard stagnant games based on the same old concept and combat like Rift and SwTor. Tera, GW2 and possible Planetside 2 will deserve a try.
Anyone taking bets out how long the F2P conversion will take, yet? I give it a year.
Indeed an innovative combat system but a stagnat concept don't deserve a p2p model and will probably fail in the long run, i'v not problem to say this. I think the best revenue model for this game is the B2P + item shop, you pay the first time the game and if you want some extra customization (aka cosmetic items) you can pay for item shop items. F2p is fail for 2 main reasons: it will become pay2win cause unfair item shop, hackers and botters will be rampant because they don't have any penalty if they are banned.
Estimating when a game will go F2P is the hip, new way to troll a games fanbase. Gotta love it.
This game will remain P2P as long as Bluehole makes the right moves. It has intangibles that will keep a healthy core of people indefinitely unless something similar comes along that's better.
Regardless of what trolls say TERA is not a WoW clone. It will garner a lot of attention from people wanting something fresh. It will indeed have it's honeymoon period, every single game released does, but F2P timeline is the wrong bet to make.
A better bet would be how long until it finds it's core playerbase.

Why don't you go predict the lottery and pay for some lesson on how to think?
If you think this game will go f2p at all well keep your fantasy to yourself, because obviously none of you even play the game and judge souly on what you see and obviously you haven't seen anything at all. If you don't feel like giving thsi game a fair chance than gtfo instead of making stupid assumptions.

People like you are so tarded...why even post this jibberesh? Makes no sense...so you aren't interested in the game...great. To call it a wow clone, first thats just stupid as its nothing like it. Second, do people not realize when you call a game a wow clone its a bit of a compliment. If i'm making a game, and someone told me this is a wow clone, I'd say, "great, I hope we can hit the market like they have." The combat system and political system make these unique, also the guild war system...none of these three aspects of the game are in wow. PVP servers being totally open pvp, again...nothing like wow.

What could you possibly say about GW2 accept it doesn't have chat bubbles and it doesn't have the trinity system and it doesn't have the end game race (which really aren't criticisms are they), really, i'm curious to hear because frankly i was believing you until you reached then end and basically implied that GW2 was the equivolent of the boring model found in all those other game titles.

I agree TERA isn't a WoW clone. It's as far from WoW as an MMO recently released...
However, "wow-clone" is not a compliment, it's a derogatory term. When I say "This is a wow clone", I'm saying "This is more theft than anything else. I look at this work and the experience is about the same as rerolling on another server. Oh I know, you've got Feature [X], and you had so much time to work on that because everything else is copypasta.".
And combat, especially combat is hardly just an aspect of the game. A lot of people around here (not you) want to give combat the same weight as auto-looting or what the game chooses to call its currency when combat is the most important different an mmorpg can have.
Spec'ing properly is a gateway drug. 12 Million People have been meter spammed in heroics.

GW2 has its ups and down just like any other game, by no means is GW2 flawless or perfect. What i find most funny is most people here defending Tera play the game and know what it is but everyone that try to defend GW2 never play the game at all and deam they somehow know the game inside and out w/o ever playing it.

Just not worth my time anymore.
