And it seems to be this community of GW2 players that remind me of major Ron Paul supporters. The kind that thing this genre is doomed and (in this case) GW2 is the only thing that can save it. Or about how the genre is over saturated with WoW-like themepark MMOs and the only way to move forward is with a non-WoW like Themepark MMO, or that how WoW-like theme park MMOs are going to die when GW2 comes out.
So while I plan on upgrading my comp to play this game (Along with AA and TOR), I can't help but think if this game's community will go the way of Darkfall without the help of the B2P model and simply the Us vs Them mentality that this MMO seems to have more so then others.
I can admit when I am wrong and I take back 80% of what I said about the game prior too this point. I think the game looks good after watching some betafootage, and I have decided to give GW1 one last fair shot (until TOR 1.2 hits atleast).
I don't care about innovation I care about fun.

I know what you mean but I'd guess that the community you are talking about is just the vocal minority.
There are those type of forum posters for every MMO.
TSW, Archeage, Tera certainly have them too.
I will more then likely buy GW2 aswell but in no way do I feel it will save MMO's. I do however hope it's different then the current trend of MMO's.
did this keep you out of swtor?
This. I remember these exact threads for SWTOR just a few months ago.
He who keeps his cool best wins.
All the "special" people on forums usually get pretty quiet when actually playing a game. And its much easier to ignore an ingame spazz.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.
In my opinion, if the genre keeps iterating games that are very similar to each other, over and over again, that's a problem. I prefer more variation and it just so happens to be that in this particular situation themepark á la WoW is the norm among AAA MMORPGs. Guild Wars 2 just happens to be an AAA themepark that is very different from the norm and for that reason I want it to succeed. However, I do not wish the future to be filled with massive iterations of GW2-copies.
I am wishing for a future of variation.
All MMOs have this "Us vs Them" fans.
But Snaylor I like how you decided to admit when being wrong, somethin hard to do now and days. I'd say just wait and see as it's really hard to depict how it'll be once GW 2 releases.
Also once gaining beta access the chat might be interestin, a lot of "this mmo is better than yours!!!!" comments I'm sure of. Happened in Tera's chat a whoooooollllleeee lot. But I still plan on subbing to that game because a lot of people could be doing that to make the Tera community look bad, as it goes with many mmos and will be even worse sense trolls an what not are gettin smarter lol, they could act a certaint way to get different reactions which is their intention.
Just my 2 cents.
I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.
I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.
P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
And what exactly is wrong with that line of thought? It's pretty accurate. Anyone who has been in the MMO genre since the start can see the horrible turn and stagnation that we've been wallowing in since WoW and its clones became the only big budget MMOs being made.
I'm confused. Why do people assume this will be any different in any way from the other E-sport mmo video games that have released in the theme park model since 2004? There has not been a vocal majority pressuring developers to get off their behinds and put less into marketing to Asia and more into a game so it has depth.
If you want a hint as to what kind of mmo you are playing, just look at what community it appeals to. Read the general chat. Then look at the average folks that walk in the door at McDonald's. That's right, there is no actual type. That's the whole point. The more folks you reach with an mmo these days, the more marketable it is. Also, it's important to have parts of the game appealing to an Asian audience since that is the golden calf of $$$.
If you want something with good community, as one example, you are going to have to find a title that appeals to those who are well educated/well read, who want a complex structure and a lot of believable depth. Until then, the mmorpg community (and I hate saying RPG when it isn't), will be the EXACT SAME as what you hear when you put headphones on and play Black Ops or MW3 online. Just a bunch of kids with various issues. But, therein lies the $$$.
Not really because from what I could deduct it was no where near as bad.
This is where I harp on Anet's dev:
During their manifesto video, they talked about revolutionizing the genre, about how other games where doing it wrong, and my favorite, "If you don't like MMOs you'll like ours.". This in and of itself is not what irked me (Although as someone looking forward TOR at that time {And Ironically if TOR never came out GW2 would more then likely be the thing I was looking forward too} it did annoy me a bit ) what irked me was how the vocal community that GW2 took that and threw it in the faces of every non-GW2 developer, Take Bioware as a major example how many complaints towards TOR have been along the lines of, "Blah Blah Blah this game isn't innovative, everything on the horizine (Suck W/O Spellcheck) is and by that I mean GW2.". Not saying TOR didn't have its share of "TOR is the greatest thing since sliced bread crowd.", just that when you have a game promising what GW2 is and most of which (as is with every game) is over exacturated mixed in with a genre that many are disillutioned with, you seem to get a formula that =s Darkfall's community.
I don't care about innovation I care about fun.
The community seems to be passionate and pretty civil to me so far...
Your Op, on the other hand, just seems a cheap jibe to flame a broad group of people in to an argument.
So you will not play GW2 if people on a forum says it's a wow killer? Myself I'm sure it will be better than any MMO on the marked today, and in my eyes will be better than TSW and TERA. I'm Norwegian and would not mind if Funcom finally hits the hammer on the nail, but again it's Funcom. Anarchy Online was great in it's time.
Myself I don't care if GW2 kills or breaks the current MMO genre, but it just looks more fun than the standard hotkey/hotbar MMO.
Being educated has not stopped anyone from behaving like selfish assholes. I think that the game itself has to have systems in place that promote people to interact with each other in a positive manner.
FF XI did it by making solo PvE so inefficient that you had to group.
GW2, at least in theory, has designed a system where you never lose anything by having an extra member, so that you at least never feel like anyone else is "ksing" your mob and thus stealing your exp and loot. The W vs W vs W system will hopefully also foster a strong community through the sense of realm pride.
Being educated in what the genre has to offer, however, will allow for players to be more vocal and to (drum roll), expect more. So, instead of defending mediocrity and the subsequent bs that stems from it, feel free to input some great ideas as to how a game like GW2 can actually be part of an evolution of the genre and not the same old copy paste mirrored classes and starting zone races that kill each other in pvp sillyness.
It's time to expect more. God knows, these folks did: http://pc.ign.com/articles/134/134162p1.html
I wonder if half of the folks who defend watered down mmorpgs that are really just E-Sport titles, actually work for the industry.
Not at all, I actually hate the term WoW killer.
What would prevent me from playing it would be if this community translated into the game itself, which isn't as crazy as it sounds look at EvE or Darkfall.
In what is more or less a nutshell I would hate to type in gen, "Hey I liked X feature from TOR/WoW/RIFT/X, think we can have it in here?" or really mention something from a WoW like MMO (Assuming I am actually playing the game.) and get grief for it. And while this already happens in say EQII or WOW I would say 6/10 times an actually conversation comes out of it, on the flipside say the samething in EvE or Darkfall and you'll get a plethera of "WoW sucks" and ect 8 out of 10 times.
I don't care about innovation I care about fun.
im guessing you visit MMO-champion aswell ... This line ... man do i hate this line hahahaha
OP: your right, i fear the MMO 'fans' more then anything ..
Example A.
There is nothing wrong IMO to say, "Hey I love this game." or even say "Hey I think game X is better then game Y." once again its all subjective, but I start to get annoyed when one says, "Everything else sucks and game X will be our saviour.".
I don't care about innovation I care about fun.
See you at launch! (Famous TOR fanboy quote)
Grim Dawn, the next great action rpg!

How about we not paint a large group of people with a broad brush?
Sorroe, Human Mesmer
Jade Quarry Server
probably be best for you not to play then, I mean if you're that prissy that you don't want to play a game because of what some are saying on the forum ... then you will probably rage the first time you run into a bug in game.
And Guild Wars 1 players are going to be the new 'hipsters' with our HoM gear. It doesn't say a lick about our skills in GW2, but some will use it as a badge of authority, I'm sure.
Anyone who posts on these forums (or any MMO related forums for that matter) on a regular basis should know by now that to level ANY criticism or worry about GW2 is met with rabid hostility and anger from GW2 fanboys.
This game WILL be better than sex and if you dont believe this obvious fact than you hate Puppies and freedom. I know this because I watched a GW2 video on youtube and its not open for debate. GW2 is that good. OP why do you hate puppies, sex and freedom? O'_'O
Currently playing TOR, If I was so prissy as to what the people on forums were saying I would have quite weeks ago. I guess I would edit it to say, "If this community is what I can expect from the in-game community. Then I'll be disapointed.".
Though chances are it won't be If it goes the same way as WoW and TOR, where the whinners are yelling doom and gloom yet the games themseleves are doing perfectly fine. If it goes the was of Darkfall or EvE where being different means being supurior, then it just might be.
I don't care about innovation I care about fun.
this topic is evidence that you're extremely prissy about what people are saying.
