Don't know if this has been posted here allready. I apologise if it has. Game are probably the largest high street retailers of games and consoles in the UK if you are not familiar with them. Acording to the article they are claiming they will not be stocking Ea games because of supply issues. But guys....What does it all mean?

TBH brick and mortar game stores will die out in a few years, I cannot remember the last time I walked into GAME, I buy all my games online for amazon or similar (some games I must have the box) or download through steam.

It means they don't get as much profit out of used games out of EA games ( because of the online passes ). They are mad is all. Used games is usually one of the biggest porfit for those stores ( GAME or Gamestop ). I wouldn't be surprised if more companies do the same in the future to curb used game sales.

GAME are in serious trouble anyway and are currently closing most of their stores. Makes no difference whether they stock EA products if they have no where to sell them anyway lol.

I don´t think they will completely die out, but they will surely be a lot rarer and only something you find in larger citys,

I still think it is a nice feeling to go down to the store and look on boxes, but there is no need for that with games I already decided to buy.

The word on the street is that 'GAME''s credit line just got called.

When your supplier is refusing to extend credit it usually means you are in trouble.

Notice the lack of actual 'Cash' refunds and only 'in-store' credits for this?

Not sure if that's legal in UK but I guess that's one way to get some cash really quick.

Yeah, this is what I am hearing also. Not sure if it is legal either tbh.

It seems like its 5 back plus 5 for in-store credits ( if you use it fast enough before they go under )

2nd hand game sales pretty much saved their business a few years ago, (there part of the electronics boutique group). So with EA's stance on eliminating this loophole, I'm not completely surprised.

Then again it is another outlet for them to sell their wares and as the OP correctly states they are the biggest specialist chain in the UK.  Can't help but think it's a tad shortsighted .

That's intertesting, but if true wouldn't they be having issues with other publishers as well? I suppose we'll have to watch this space...

GAME are also online as well which I use a lot for pre orders since they usually a very good price and they always came a day early.

I had ME3 PC CE pre ordered from them and of course now it looks like I won't be getting a CE at all. Such a bummer :(

Customers who have placed a deposit for the title will receive refund as well as the £5 worth of Reward points between 1 and 16 March 2012.

It doesn't really say you won't get any cash. Just that you will get a refund and a 5 pound discount on other orders.

But yeah "refund" can be interpreted either way.

This is actually more serious than I initially thought.

    5p per share?

I'm thinking 'Sky is falling' call is going on right now in GAME's HQ.

Actual quote on the 'in-store only credit' which is what GAME told Eurogamer

Hmm. Looks like they received an update, so 'refund' will be given. I have to imagine that's cash though. UK's law can't be that consumer un-friendly.

That's shady. Just shady. Whether it is legal or not; that is not looking after the customers. :(

    Holly Crap!

Well this is an intresting read also. Good find.

Edit* The banks are pressing for them to sell their overseas stores "Game's lenders – Royal Bank of Scotland, Barclays, HSBC, Caixa, Allied Irish Bank and Bank of Ireland – are wielding considerable influence over the business and are pressing for a sale of Game's overseas stores. It will need more cash to keep it going through to next Christmas."

Sorry, I had outdated info. :(

I did update my post though. ^_^

While EA isn't viewed as a 'good' company in this community, they are a giant  with so many games under their name.

If they are refusing to supply GAME then yeah... GAME is just doomed.

Also, Nintendo as well. I mean.. c'mon....

    What the... Ubisoft too??!

Just had a chat with a friend who works there.

Have a look on the PS3 / PS3 games if you go to GAME. it'll say 'Property of Sony - Label not to be removed until AFTER sale' or something. So Sony isn't even 'selling' their stock, just loaning it to them.

I guess this is how a retailer implodes in the UK.

Quote "Game also confirmed that it will not be stocking Nintendo's Mario Party 9, from the best-selling Mario series, which is released this Friday."

So...its not just EA now. Nintendo included ? ouch

It seems that GAME is in large financial trouble. They don't have cash to pay for the boxes and EA is refusing to give them credit.

Indeed they appear to be in a worse state then I first realised, a bit more info here, apparently lenders agreed to negotiate terms again, which is keeping them afloat at the moment:

Good I say. Those stores have become a complete rip off. Really 6 dollars off a used game? Pathetic.
