BioWare and LucasArts are excited to announce the Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ Friends Trial starts tomorrow, March 6th!* For a limited time, players who have an active Star Wars: The Old Republic subscription will be able to invite up to three of their friends to explore the Star Wars™ galaxy.

The Star Wars: The Old Republic Friends Trial is an opportunity for players to invite three (3) of their friends to take part in a 7-day trial of the game. During this trial period, invited players can explore each of the four Origin Worlds, and experience the opening adventures for each class as they start along their epic journey.

Well that's all she wrote huh?

TOR is failing for sure. They are giving non-subscribers a chance to see how bad the game is for themselves before not buying it. If it was not failing they would want you to buy it before trying it out right? Right?

And only allowing three friends to play, WTF! Why not all your friends? Fail attempt is fail. Why not hand out free subs to everyone? Seven days... assholes! They couldn't even give us a lifetime sub! God BW is sure full of fail!

    TOR=FtP in a few days.

    Biodrone.

    Fail.

    Amirite?

It's quite common for games to have a buddy key promotion after the launch period but just after the first paid month is a bit sooner than normal. Just another sign that players are leaving the game at a rapid rate I guess.

See you got the talent! Nothing is just for the players benefit. It all has to lead to...

    FAIL!

Nope this is just a smart move on Biowares part.   The next quarter report is due and they need numbers to say, "see the game is still  doing great."  What better way to do it than to offer free trials.    :)

It is a smart business move.   They will get people to try it that were on the fence.   This will actually increase sub numbers no doubt if by just a little bit.   The new patch being postponed until April will force players to have to go it another month in subs strengthing Biowares claim that the game is retaining players.  EA/Bioware know what they are doing.

Because pushing it off a month, when there was no release date set to begin with, means that people cannot in any way, cancel their sub and wait to retry it after 1.2 comes out...

That "smart" business move is a clever short term solution to hide a bigger problem. They are losing subs unless they do something real about it, instead of inflating their numbers with fake data which is what trials are....

lol. I'll probably give mine away as I have no friends...so hopefully they'll start up a buddy trial key thread for TOR.

That's a good strategy. The people who like such a sub standard product might have friends with similar apathy toward innovation.

Yes WoW is failing but slowly and from a great height, they didn't start their free trial until subs started moving slowly but steadily downwards.

WoW isn't really failing, it is falling.  There's a big difference.  That would be kinda like telling a 90 year old man who has cancer that he is now failing at life.

by the time wow is at tor level i bet tor will be speaking with swg (where ever swg is)

The object is to grow, WoW is failing, however WoW failing is far more successful than any other game on the market, but it is still failing by it's own standards, simple logic 101. Which is why they started a free trial scheme in an attempt to reverse the slow decline in subscriber numbers.

The next you will tell me is that the financial statements of publically companies like EA  are audited. As such, adding free players should have a negative impact due to the increased costs. :)

Whatever it takes to make this game look like it's alive and doing quite well for the money invested in it. I wonder who they'll be fooling.

That is just an odd way to look at things.  It is failing now because it was too successful to maintain forever.   That's a bit circular as everything works that way.
