     both.

most of the UI looks like a spreadsheet, and if you really want to get seriously into EvE you need your own spreadsheets to keep strack of all your enterprises, as well as projections of future enterprises.

Not really, I have many friends who played the game for many years and the only ones who uses it are the ones who like to manufacture things and they do it for their own sake, its not required at all just makes it easier but the same can be said for L2 when you run a clan for example. Did you try the game?

I played EVE from 2005 to 2011 with a good number of people (20 to 30 consistently), none of which ever felt the need for the use of spreadsheets. I think the key to your question is the word "try"...as in that's all they did during their brief period of being "lost".

this game hurts my head....u need a freaking 200+ IQ to play it or sumthing....

  • drtack1drtack1 Member UncommonPosts: 273

Yea the game is not for everyone! Its def not for those who like to just press F1-F12 or 1-0. The game takes strategy, cunning, planning, and a whole list of other things. The first month or two may be slow starting with eve but once you Gte past that you can truely begin to experience eve for what it is. It does not take years to get started and eneter null sec where all the pvp happens. When I started The first month and a half I trained skills and did npc missions just like any other mmo. I started piloting an advanced frigate and joined my corp in pvp. It was so fun the the sheer rush had me hooked.  Start small then go big!

The true reason why most people dont like EVE is because most people expect instant gratification........no one wants to work for something to get where they want to go!

And for those who say its boring.....really? Its REALISTIC! Do you honestly think if humanity ever gets to this point in the future we would be controling the movement of the ship and everything else?

Its physicaly and mentaly impossible for the human body and mind to control a ship and evey system running it. We would just tell it what to do. A single human couldnt control everything it takes to pilot a ship.

I have also never used spread sheets to play eve. You guys dont need to bash and or troll this forum. I posted this because I wanted to share this awesome story with everyone! If you took the time to watch the video and understand the story and everything that goes on you would appreciate this post like others here have!

The video reminds me of Battle Star Galactica! So awesome. I play eve because its truely a game with no end. All the other mmos out there ive played reached lvl cap and a month later am bored. I always come back to eve!

    And a fun fact...........

It would take ROUGHLY 27 years to train very single skill possible in the game!

just checked by adding all remaining skills (374 unique skills with 5 lvls each) to the evemon skillplaner...

it would take me 8879 days (or 24 years and 101 days), 21 hours, 57 mins and 28 seconds to learn them all, and

it would cost me 28.779.155.000 ISK to buy all of them :P

that is only if they do not update the skillsystem / add more skills with in the next 25 years *G*

That video gave me goose bumps...  I love EVE and I really miss playing it and the group of people I got to know (bump to Marsoc Galactic if it's still out there).  No PVE game has ever given me the rush and the satisfaction I got from even a small PVP skirmish in EVE let alone large scale fleet action.   For those who think the combat in EVE is boring you've never been in real PVP, each battle is fluid and requires skilled people in ships they know how to fly and equiped with the right things to contribute and everybody has to work together to win (not just select the tank and spam heals).  Anyways, great video and a great and deep game.

Yes that sounds about apropriate to my own thoughts really, I never understood this spreadsheet part really other than the interface somewhat but even then... no not really.

Yeh they should add twitch based combat so skill wins not money and time.

O'rly?, I trade and PVE and PVP have billions of isk and never ever used spreadsheets.

This spreadsheet argument is getting so old it's not even funny anymore.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

Haters gonna hate. And they need to make up some excuse to bash a game they cannot play because their own lack of skill.

No kidding, that spreadsheet argument is very stale. And some people just don't seem to recognize how much "boring" doesn't apply to combat in Eve. The level of tactical and logistical complexity they got into in that video, even in the main fight where they were depending on the one Bhaalgorn...the choice of targets, which ones to fire what at...that's ten times more complex than anything in any MMO I have ever played or even heard of. I've played Eve for several years and have done some pretty funky stuff in it, and even I haven't done anything THAT complex.

Eve's PvP combat is not a heavy button-mashing extravaganza; that is not where its complexity comes in. It's in the TACTICS and LOGISTICS of what ships to bring, what to fit on those ships, evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of your enemy on the fly and adapting to them right in the middle of a fight, against intelligent, highly adaptable human opponents with access to resources and backup you may not know about and they could surprise you with at any moment...THAT is why Eve combat is so badass. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, comes close to that level of tactical and logistical complexity in group PvP.

    Where's the any key?

Spreadsheets are small tables made on Microsoft Excel that do math calculations.

Eve can be as hardcore or as softcore as you want to make it. Don't let others fool you, eve is 100% about playing how you want.

Eve looks boring, I tried it several times over the years, but for some reason, I can't stop playing it..

Played - M59, EQOA, EQ, EQ2, PS, SWG[Favorite], DAoC, UO, RS, MXO, CoH/CoV, TR, FFXI, FoM, WoW, Eve, Rift, SWTOR, TSW.
    Playing - PS2, AoW, GW2

Why does everyone complain about mining? If you dont like to mine.... dont mine? You can do all sorts of other things. There are people who make a living simply being couriers.

I want to like EvE, I really really do and I have tried it so many different times and different ways.  Joining different types of corps including the EvE Univeristy which is very helpful.   I always end up getting into a clan that decides to move to a new "home" base and it takes forever to move all my crap and then I get bored and quit.   I just want to find a place where I can log on and join a group for whatever like I used to do in EQ.

Everytime I come back to play, I get it into my head I want to play a SB and then as I am working towards it I ask questions about them and never like the answer or the role that SBs play.  No idea how they play now since I have not given EVE a shot in a year or more.

This video is cool, might give EVE another try this weekend.   I want to like this game, it is what I want in a game.  Player choice, Player freedom and a good Risk/Reward system.   Any Clan/Guilds looking for a newbie to train.

SB? Do you mean Stealth Bombers? Dirt Nap Squad is quite newb friendly, they use SBs and take people straight out of EVE Uni. I spent nearly a year in Dirt Nap, it was loads of fun the 1 week out of the month they PvP. The other 3 weeks is do whatever you like, no pressure.

Yes, SB = Stealth Bombers but I was just checking out the "ships" page at the EVE home page and only see one SB now.

I am looking for more of a scout/support role, I do not want to do EW as I do not enjoy that and that is what most corps want new pvpers to do.

Stealth Bombers have a very specific role. But the skillsets needed to fly it can be used for a range of things. I use the covert ops ability for my cloaking device and run around lowsec scanning down radar/magni sites for money. Aiming to fly a ship is good. Aiming to fill a role (no matter the ship) is better.

Well, that must've been the best EvE video i ever seen, too bad that's probably not what most people experience in the game. Unfortunately, after trying to get into the game multiple times, i've found this guy here being right:
