Just a suggestion,
instead of having people to hit a numerous of post and be active everyday to improve and maintain their ratings, why not just base on the number of posts? This will reduce people feeling the need to keep posting and I believe leads to most of the troll posts.
By using number of post there's no pressure to post and people will be more constructive.
example 1-100 posts will be given novice and only 1 star. 101 to 500 member, 2 star, 501 to 2000 3 star arch member, 2001 to 5000 supreme member 4 star, etc....

Not sure if that many people are bothered by their star count or lack thereof, to be honest.
My brand new bloggity blog.
If the stars would be based on post count and be permanent, people would grind the forums to get 5 stars.
its good if most players don't bother about the stars, but I believe there is some.

That's why. I could have made five posts to make the point but post count and stars don't matter.

You mean you can get 5 stars without defeating the uber-raid boss? LOL.
But seriously, does anybody actually care about their star rating???

Honestly, who is keeping track of anyone else's posts in the first place, and who cares?
This site in particular exercises several ways to keep people involved and active, including contests that are affected by how often you log into MMORPG.com
I remember when getting stars for good behavior started getting stale. I must have been 6 then...
It's like a hotel rating but not.
Seriously? I can't believe that anyone would be bothered by their star count. I've been at 1.5 for a long time for constantly getting in trouble here (baaaad me), and I've been at 5. Most of the time I don't even NOTICE how many stars I'm on. I comment in bursts. There are long periods of time when I'm interested in this site and shorter periods of time when I'm not. I just post when I have something to say. Not everyone who frequents this site is so OCD that stars matter.....I promise you.

Because it's not about how much you post but the content of your posts. "Troll" posters are likely incurring warnings/bans which in turn end up lowering their star rating.
Who cares about stuff like that anyway.... its the content of a post that matters and not all that statistic bull.
