Who remembers this, in the old mmos by SOE...

Remember when the servers would go  down, we would have a chat pannel on the login page of the game

for all of us to chat in while servers were down ?

There would be several different language rooms for people of different languages,

Those login chat panels were amazing to make the server down time go quickly.

"QUICK STORM THE DUTCH CHANNEL SO IT CRASHES LOL"

They used to have mods sometimes modding the chat pannels too and youd get booted every so often :)

well know they used to have this in EQ2,  though mainly people would be there if they were updating with a new expansion....and that would be the only game by SOE that Ive played with this in it.

They had it in planetside and also in swg too im sure.

Wondered if anyone had any memories from those spells in the chat panel.

It used to be carnage in those days lol all manners of horrors being aired inside and outside the game.

Nowadays nobody talks nor does anyone much like the group activites in the games.

I only play the games now to get to max level  so i can say yep ive completed that lol

The first mmo i played was EQ2, and i remember making many friends in that chatroom. Some who became close friends in Rl. It was through them that i choose my server, and would often form groups to play in game. Now, even when in a guild, there seems to be little feeling of grouping. Not for fun anyway. It's like solo play is the norm, and even when you do form a group, it is to achieve some quest. When i was a newb, i thought that these games were intended to be played socially. Now i find that aspect of mmorpgs almost to be an alien concept. Sure,i like to solo, sometimes quite often, but my best game sessions have been as part of group, not just racing through a quest or dungeon, but to actuall enjoy the game world, whichever it maybe, and to do stuff for fun. Perhaps we are just anti-social gamers. Who knows?

What I remember more clearly than that is what happened when some servers were down and others weren't. Rather than hanging out in the chatroom, a ton of people would make new characters on other servers with names like "Solusekisdown" and spam the server by dueling each other.

It's funny that you bring this up, OP. I was just thinking about this a few days ago. I really enjoyed the client chat via SWG / EQ2 - especially when the servers went down.

I remember one guy in particular asked the CSR if there was going to be an Image Designer at the next SOE Fan Fair to fix all the uglies.
