As reported by Massively. I'm sure this will make the main news feed here later today.
It looks to me like this is the last chance to try it out. I'm glad I patched it up this weekend, now I can get in and see it before it goes away.
I know it seems weird, but the top of my to-do-list right now is to experience WAR to level cap. I just have to hope they hold on to one server until I can get there because I'm still convinced this game won't see 2013.

It's really too bad. The game had some really great things going for it. It is never fun to see a game flop like this, I know a lot of people still enjoy playing it, and having a game shut down on you is as un-fun as it gets.
Hope it can hold out as long as possible.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
EA choking is finally coming to an end huh

I hope this game will go F2P and not totally stop... I am 100 % sure that if goes F2P i ll start to play again (i already own the game and played couple of months, my main was a shammy rr 73).
I have to say that even now i think that scenarios at Warhammer was the best bg type experience that i had compared to other MMo's.
Btw really EA / Bioware right now is in my black list. How can they own the biggest titles and fail every time...
Anyways give Warhammer a chance with F2P model.
Ya, I'd love to see it go F2P as well. Currently, I'm planning on maxing out the free trial and then buying a time card to move on to the closed off areas. The only investment I have in the game currently is buying someone's used CE for my collection.

Unfortunately, it takes money and developers to redesign a game to the F2P model. EA and BioWare have proven that they are unwilling to supply WAR with either, as they intentionally pulled all real development support for it almost 3 years ago.
WAR did have some really great aspects, along with its shortcomings. It just needed continued support to fix the issues and add the necessary content. Strangely enough, that's what BioWare is scrambling to do right now with the trainwreck that is SWTOR, but WAR wasn't their baby, so they didn't care.
Once they're done with their idiotic Warhammer MOBA, I think it's possible they'll actually shut WAR completely down.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
I double agree here about f2p. It has the chance to reserrect and hopefully the game becomes populated again. SoE is attempting the same thing from what I have seen with EQ and now Vanguard. Vanguard to me will be really nice to have if it gets going again. It will be nice to have all these choices besides the asian f2p games (I'm not knocking them but it's not for all of us.)
Back to War. I hadn't played in months and months. My son came to visit me last Thursday and we decided to play something with PvP we had enjoyed in the past. We jumped in and made a choppa and a shaman, did a few quests and got our basic gear. We then went right to the Blessed Gathering war camp and proceeded down the hill for some fun sensless PvP. The game will be sorely missed if removed from the list of 100s of f2p games. I will admit we did not intend to start our subs back up and just play to free level cap but guess what? We did it anyway!
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
as soon as they have another use for their GW contract they will shot the limping horse
Which is sad because WAR would be bigger than any of those converted games out there if it went f2p

I didnt get to play much of warhammer, I did own it though. I tried out a trial not to long ago, I have to say I hated its guts. The character movement was terrible, the npc's felt like they were droped in by an editor in one spot, felt so horrible.
I did like the game when it first came out, it didnt last long though. I played up untill all the servers got merged which wasnt long from when it first released. Sea of Malice lol!

Let this game be a lesson on how not to implement PvP.
There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own.

its a miracle it survive till now, just wish gw don't renew the contract anymore. Such a waste of a great I.p.
RIP Orc Choppa
Yeah, this game had some solid pvp. It wasnt the pvp it got wrong, it was everything else. Renown system, Public Quests, Endgame pve.
PvP was the only thing this game did right, however, when open world pvp turned to renown farming and avoiding pvp, and endgame kept getting dissapointing reviews...
Did you even play the game?
Of course I played the game starting at release. WAR got pretty much everything wrong. Two factions, battlegrounds and bad class balance and no death penalty. The supposed PvP lakes were nothing but pointless, mindless zergs. The battle grounds were a cluster f**k. Nobody even tried to win, all they wanted was kills.
On top of that nobody talked to each other to attempt to coordinate.
Face it, the game sucked. That's why it's on it's death bed.

The PVP was the best in any MMO I've ever played. They never balanced anything correctly, but the way that the team worked together is the best small group pvp experience you're going to find anywhere.
The game is a lesson on how not to release a game and how devestating a bad first month can be.
Not sure what game you played, but it was different than the one I played. You're right about the balance, that was always off.
However I always found action in the PVP lakes and in almost ever scenario, we played as a team to win, and we did communicate and coordinate.
Maybe your server just sucked.
Yes there were fights at the PvP lakes but to what end? It wasn't about strategy or skill, it was simply an endurance contest. Whoever got bored first, lost.
It is possible my server sucked. However, I do remember a number of people complaining shortly after release about the lack of people talking.
