What kind of budget I wonder

TerranahTerranah Member UncommonPosts: 3,575

Watching the videos and looking at the beautiful screenshots and impressive feature list, I find myself wondering what kind of budget they have as well as how big there staff is.  There have been some games released lately with big budgets and large staffs that created very mediocre products.  In contrast, Archeage development seems to be very creative and focused.  I really would like to see this game come out for western audiences at some point.  The amazing media of this game coming out makes it very hard to be patient.

To me this is the most exciting thing in development within the mmo genre in some time.

I'm guessing their staff and executive salaries aren't nearly as bloated as in the west.

Can't find link now but I read few weeks ago that it reached 28$ , Wikipedia amout was not updates in months.

Since costs at the end usually ramp up + there is still few months till Korean release , I think it might be safe to assume that it will reach something like ~35 $ mil

Don't know about executives ,but staff pays aren't so low. SK is not Vietnam or even China.Though they get less vacation time & stuff like that.

Anyway game cut's cost at having very little VO , propably very little cinematic intros (if any) , there is possible they got good price on CryEngine as it was one of  first big outside Crytec games and mmorpg's to license CE3.

There will be also less instanced PvE and some of these encounters are expensive to make ,etc

    AND

They got their own + license buyer funding which mean no high bank loans rates ,etc

Also TenCent in China is reported to have payed $40-50 million for licensening.  How much of that XLGames has access to I have no idea, but that can go a long way to helping cover costs. :D

edit: Seems it is 40+ Mil  http://www.marbridgeconsulting.com/marbridgedaily/2010-09-02/article/38889/tencent_licenses_korean_mmo
