My husband and sons used to play it together and they liked it. My son says it was quite good but a bit odd to get used to at first but once you do it's fun, combat was good and it was a nice looking game.
P.S. I can't compare it to EVE I haven't played either game though I tried the tutorial of EVE a few times.
SoaSE is an RTS 4X game - some similarities to games like Galactic Civilizations or Civilizations, but it's all real time, and a greater emphasis on combat/research, and not quite so much on expansion and politics. Very good game, I still play it now, and I believe I've even heard recent rumors of another expansion in the works (and I'll be buying it, if there is).
My one gripe is that larger-scaled games tend to involve two parts - the first where you try to build up your power while managing as much combat and expansion as you can support, followed by a second part where you've finally come out on top, your opponents have collapsed, and you're basically just steamrolling everything, but it just takes awhile. It also (possibly) suffers from not actually having a real campaign, despite its evocative and dramatic name.
A Modest Proposal for MMORPGs: That the means of progression would not be mutually exclusive from the means of enjoyment.
Like any game, Sins had its strengths and faults. The movement system was pretty dynamic and worked pretty well. The ship graphics were really nice if you zoomed in on your fleet.
But most of the time, I played the game at the most zoomed out level, so I rarely saw the elaborate graphics. And even the smallest single-player skirmish would take hours to play. In that respect, Sins was very much like an MMORPG -- if you couldn't devote a substantial part of your life to playing a single game, you might as well move to something else.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
I'm an rts fan through and through! Sins is ok but its not very clever from an ai point of. View!! Ie not a challange! All fights are just blob fights no tactics required just build tons of ships then attack your ai opponents! That's it really! You would be better off playing eve I think did I say eve was fantastic ?
Sins is a great game and nothnig liek eve its a space empire building game.. The main drawing point of it is that its in real time as opposed to turn based like nearly all other space empire games.
I had tons of fun with this and if your a fan of that type fo game then you need to pick it up lol.. only downside of the game is you cant customize your ships other than skills they pick up when they lvl up..

thanks!!
anyone else have any opi9nions?
No Sins is an RTS that plays like a civ game kind of.
If you want Eve only single player you want one of the X series games.
I will not play a game with a cash shop ever again. A dev job should be to make the game better not make me pay so it sucks less.

I haven't played it, but it was massively popular for a long time.

It's pretty fun, but it doesn't have a single player campaign. Just skirmishes and multiplayer
