I was excited for this game. The dynamic events and the PVP looked amazing. Out of nowhere the game just became very blah for me. I am now looking forward to Diablo III a lot more so.
I really don't hear unrealistic hype. I hear a lot less of "This will be the WoW killer" ect than I did for SWTOR. Also most of the hype is coming from people who played and say it's really good. So.. the hype I think is accurate.. no one is making off the wall remarks.. and i'm talking from press and developers ect.
can expectations not be met? yes.
is hype ever unrelastic? no. It's hype.. it's to get people excited. How much hype there is, is based on our anticipation, nothing more. And a lot of people are anticipating this game.
Unrelastic hype would be some never heard of MMO saying it's "the most anticipated MMO of the year!"
I was excited for this game. The dynamic events and the PVP looked amazing. Out of nowhere the game just became very blah for me. I am now looking forward to Diablo III a lot more so.
Fair enough, but your sig says you have played WOW. That game is the definition of "BLAH" :P Out of interest, what made you "blah" GW2? For me every new piece of information makes me wanna play this game even more.
Raises hand - I will wait until I hear if the game is any good(by my standards). When a game has as many threads about it as this one does, I am cautious - too similar to AoC. I beta'd GW1 and disliked the game after launch, so I am giving this one a wide berth unless or until I am assured of 2 things: It is actually not a single player game with lobbies and that the average age of the community is over 21. Community is very important for me and what i have seen of those who are in favor of the game here does not give me hope. This is just me, GW2 might turn out to be a good game, but so far I do not see it.
Diablo 3 is probally gonna bomb, like most games coming out recently the devs just keep dumbing them down and making them overly simple and quite simply boring. Look at skyrim compared to the previous games and how far backwards it went, same for mass effect 3, dungeon siege 3 etc. a Sequel IMO should push the bar, not lower it drastically.
As for gw2, I am only buying it cuz its b2p, if it was a sub fee i'd not be bothering with it. I don't expect the game to be any good either really, the combat looks like typical wow-fare from videos i seen for the most part with the lame auto lock on crap that most generic mmo's use (tera being an exception). The Guild vs Guild pvp will prob end up with 1 guild dominating everything s it usually does with that kind of a system Unless they put a limit on terrtory they can hold. All I can say is people better be ready to be let down because it will happen, it always does, me? I don't expect much in the first place from games anymore considering most games now a days are as simple or simpler than older snes titles, they just look prettier thats all.
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
Are you asking how many people are incapable of drawing their own conclusions?
As with virtually every game that comes out today, just do your own research and you should be able to gauge whether or not you will enjoy the game. What haters and fanboys say should be utterly irrelevant when forming your own opinion.
Also, those haters and fanboys are going to continue to spew their skewed opinions all over forums such as these even 6 months after release.
why ? is all i ask, just because people are hyped over something dosnt mean the game is going to be instantly ruined if you play it when it just comes out
There is a lot more evidence that show it'll probably be a good game. In fact, I daresay this is the first time I've seen so many videos and comments regarding a game prior to launch. Also, since A-Net still has the benefit of the doubt with me, I will pre-purchase it. However, I'm still skeptical, though this is mainly due to past experiences with other MMOs. Besides, I don't base whether I'm going to pick up a game or not according to hype. Instead, I look at how much information they release, what folks in beta are saying. Looking at GW2, there have been plenty of videos from the press and others. On top of that I've heard overall, good comments, along with some negative ones as well. So I should say I'm more hopeful about this game than not.

I am going to be pre-purchasing tomorrow because I don't think the hype is unrealistic.
I have watched way too many hours of raw beta footage and read too many articles from legitimate gaming press that all heap massive amounts of praise on to the game.
Much easier to be excited about real non-developer gameplay footage and commentary than PR / marketting spin/hyperbole.

Pretty much this.
Also, I simply can't bring myself to ignore that Guild Wars 2 is still not charging a monthly fee. I bought guild wars 1 and barely gave it a month of play before I uninstalled it. I liked what it had to offer, and it fit a good pvp nitch, but it wasn't a large enough world for me to enjoy for a long time as I would other MMOS. That being said, I never regretted paying for the box, since I know I can forever have the option to jump right back in without giving them my CC info.
That alone almost sets in stone that I will purchase GW2 if for no other reason than it looks fun, and I don't have to pay monthly for it, so my 2 EVE online accounts, and whatever other hyped game comes out can be experienced without having to sit and add up yet another game that will charge my account on a monthly basis.
[let me be clear. I'm not buying it just because it has no monthly fee. I'm buying it because it looks fun, refreshing, and shiny. As well as past experiences with arenanet/Guild Wars not leaving a sour taste in my mouth whatsoever.]
Not me, I've been waiting for this game (like many others) for several years. I'm pre-purchasing a digital deluxe tomorrow. I've jumped from one mmo to another, unsatisfied for years. Haven't been addicted to one mmo since way back with EverQuest. From all that ArenaNet has shown us, from the press beta videos, showing all the wonder. I'm not willing to wait, the sooner the better.
I'm on the fence on this one. On one hand, it's not going to measure up to the ridiculous hype, they never do, and on the other hand there's no monthly.
I dunno, the keep defense is the only thing that looks interesting to me and I think I'll get tired of this one rather quickly unless they really create a rewarding PvPvP system.

Nope, this game has had the most evidence based hype ive seen in a long time. im gonna be avoiding the game however because i have no real interest in it.
You just like to look in forums for games that don't interest you? Right on.
Many of us do.... I come to this forum, besides tracking and discussing games I already am interested in, to actually see something new and if it looks cool I'm following it. That's what this forum's all about...
"Happiness is not a destination. It is a method of life." -------------------------------
Since this game has no monthly fee, there is no reason to avoid the game for the fist 3-6 months because I won't waste a monthly sub fee for those months which I will be playing the game (tho I'll play it well over 6 months) and since it's a buy 2 play game the box prices won't go down for quite some time...
I'll buy it tomorrow trough ANet webshop.
"Happiness is not a destination. It is a method of life." -------------------------------
So wheres all this unrealistic hype coming from again? Seriously though, does anyone have a link or anything, ive never once seen hype from the devs that wasnt accurate about what the game currently has developed.
Nor have I seen any evidence to show that the devs have lied about anything or tried to decieve people. Its not like Arena-net is a household name like Bioware or Lucas-arts, this is their first REAL FULL FLEDGED MMO and they seem to be doing a great job so far.
And yes they are doing much better than TOR or Warhammer at launch because they arent fucking with an IP everyone loved and making it into a crap game.
I was excited for this game. The dynamic events and the PVP looked amazing. Out of nowhere the game just became very blah for me. I am now looking forward to Diablo III a lot more so.

I can't see any other reason for my losing interest in GW2 except that I don't feel like playing MMORPG's anymore. It just happened that I was following GW2 at the time this feeling hit me.
I bought Skyrim and while it isnt everyones cup of tea I enjoyed it. I saw the videos of Diablo III and I think I'll enjoy that much the same as Skyrim.
I'll wait a bit and if thegame events and pvp is as fun as it sounds maybe I'll try it out to see if it changes my mind but for the time being I'm wary and waiting.
I was excited for this game. The dynamic events and the PVP looked amazing. Out of nowhere the game just became very blah for me. I am now looking forward to Diablo III a lot more so.
Really? Wow.
Diablo 3 in my opinion should've come out like 5-6 years ago, would of been a good time and I grew up on the original before getting sucked into UO for about 5 years (started 97/98). Nothing at all about D3 looks interesting to me.
I'm excited about Guild Wars 2 but also skeptical. The good news is there is a ton of gameplay and reviews out there that are giving honest and constructive critisicm. The other good part about that is the critisicm isn't too bad, not to mention it's one of the few MMO dedicated toward PvP.Then again though..I was excited about SWTOR (heard many things about the linearity, solo feel to it before it was released), and that's how it ended up.
I hope GW2 and TSW turn out well while keeping my eye on The Repopulation (need a sandbox).
ya cause I care about hype, im buying the game right away and pre purchase cause i dont care what others say, the game just looks fun to me, and my friends are playing day one,
Id be an idiot to let me friends play for 3 months without me.

Guild Wars 2 is not hyped at all. Developers let players play and see, showing real content that matches their promises. Gw2 news never missguides people, it is what they are. I can say/do much if you can not realize this fact alone by yourself. Just wait for release and see for yourself, as they dont try to milk you like other companies (Ea,activision, blizzard), they wont have any loss from you if you buy their game after 3 months.
This!
Good reply, so i dont have to say anything you already did:)

So probably going to buy just for old time sake, but not going to play it properly because it's not my cup of tea. Disappointed, yes, as I said will not blame ArenaNet, it's their vision and lots of players are excited here, but hey, maybe you see me from time to time randomly rezzing peeps in WvW its after all FTP game.
many prefer pay to win model, many prefer zerg action, many like the hype, many will prepurchase tomorrow, many will be in beta.

if your curious then perfect play the game and be yourself the judge
I'll prepurche it tomorrow, just as I did with all GW expansions. Never disappointed. (Not relally like the Eye of the North theme, but finished it, and it was ok anyways.) ANet is a very trustable company for me.
