Kill 10 quests don't bother me if there is an exciting world to explore in the process......If its just kill 10 that are 10 feet away from the NPC the whole game then yes its not a good system.
Everyone is so used to current lack of innovation in the genre that they are fixated on the need for these quests. Asheron's Call had no quests in the now traditional sense. The world was massive. You explored it. That was the fun. The "quests" were large in scope revolving around getting milestone-esque items occasionally. Just explore the massive world, find dungeons, find new vistas, items, landscapes, portals, etc.
Get the eq/wow mindset out of your heads people. It does NOT need to be this way.
