Given that people have had a chance to play TERA, if it was worthy of such wannabe hype, it would have it.  TERA may very well be what Aion should have been (FFXIV is a different beast), but both games are still typical Asian quest grinders, with the only difference being TERA's drastically reduced level grind and its realtime combat.  TERA has a shot at filling the same niche as Lineage II in the US, but aside from that, I don't see it being that popular.  Western gamers, as a whole, haven't been too receptive to Korean-style MMORPGs for a number of reasons not entirely depending on the time it takes to level.

LOL ff14 had like the worst launch ever they didnt even start charging their players till after the 1st year of the games life

    But it was hyped

Your first paragraph could be said about GW2.  Why are the GW2 fanbois coming to other games' forums and flexing?  Your second paragraph is exactly what EME has done to TERA to make it more appealing to the western crowd.  TERA is quickly labeled and discarded when it shouldn't be.

    @Super

If you're talking about this thread then, well, this is the TERA forums after all heh. I am wondering which of the exaggerated claims TERA fans are making because it wouldn't be right to lie strictly to garner TERA attention.

It's not as though GW2 fans are any better and some are indeed overexaggerating (see Itgrowls' rant a page or so back). I'm not sure why since the IP is big enough on it's own.

Just not worth my time anymore.

lol   you are far from a casual observer when you try to start a GW2 hype vs. Tera hype pissing contest..

you say GW2 speaks for itself and doesn't need an army of fans, ...... so why are you holding up the GW2 banner and speaking for it right now?  lol

I agree with you, and there is something to be said about a company that takes feed back from its community and applies it. People were saying that warrior DPS was low, they took it into consideration and made changes (and gave everyone else a little something also)

I couldn't find a description of the new skills.

"EN MASSE Says" Based on player feedback, we changed the warrior class the most. Warriors now have skills that gradually build an "edge" of power, and then release that power with a devastating attack. The edge gives warriors a unique flow in combat, because they grow more dangerous with each passing second.

    Class

    New Skills

    Archer

Eagle's Eye, Concussion Trap, Ensnaring Trap, Explosion Trap

    Berserker

    Evasive Smash

    Lancer

    Chained Leash

    Mystic

    Warding Totem

    Priest

    Healing Immersion, Grace of Resurrection

    Slayer

    Measured Slice

    Sorcerer

    Stone Skin

    Warrior

    Scythe

For those people in love with GW2 questing, please show a link to a single quest where you don't have to kill stuff.  What? No links?  Oh that's funny, I guess GW2 is all about killing stuff all the time just like every other MMO, /shocker

In Tera, doing regular quests is not the only way of progression and it's not even the fastest.  The fastest method is going through the dungeons, as you get better loot and exp from the elite mobs.  Also you can level very well off the World BAMs with only a group of 3 people, and you even get gear rewards from the repeatables.

The orange story missions are definitely far from boring as they send you into instances where you have to defend towns, and escort NPCs safely and at higher levels always end in some epic boss battle.  Also the story missions have a lot of fully voiced acted beautifully animated cutscenes, and really nice gear rewards to boot.

Not an actual leveling method, but you get exp and buffs from mining nodes, crafting quests, billboard quests for tracking and killing dangerous world mobs, and the leveling zones branch out so if you get tired of one zone you can skip the quests and level in a completely different one.

This is why I keep telling people to stop listening to players that didn't make it past the starter zones.

gw2 is being hyped by the fans not by arenanet

unlike say swtor which was overhyped by bioware/ea with those million dollar cutscenes

that id b willing to watch a whole movie of

The title is quite funny to say the least. We all know what will happen. Release, lots of players, 2 weeks later, this game sucks threads will pop up, 6 month time, server merges will happen. Not one fanbois of the game will even come onto these forums, because well they re game isn t doing as good as they said.

That said, of the p2p games out there now, this would be the last one I would pick, not even close.

so you ask for a link and then say o no link in the same line

    theres some fail logic

go watch some of TB gw2 vids he does plenty of DE that dont include killing things

i think they need to completly redo the starter zone it gives a bad 1st impression of the game

Isn't that the whole point of this thread?  Sleeper..... meaning it doesn't have the hype that it could.

well actually most themepark games the "real game" starts at max lvl which is even worse

but ppl play in betas to c if they will like the game

so games need to get players into the game from the beginning

I shouldn't have to explain simple concepts in post #2 that I explained in post number #1. Your ignorance is exacerbated by the fact that you claim I ever said Guild Wars 2 has no hype.   This thread isn't about GW2.  I won't go on about it. TERA is the game that has no hype.  That is why threads like this exist -- to validate the opinions of TERA fans and to make them feel better that no one is hyping the launch of their game quite like other games were hyped in the past.

Then you go on about typical Korea hating cliches.  I'm sure South Korea is a great country.  I'm not sure why you think I would hate an entire country based on my feelings about a video game, which I don't even hate either.  If you are referring to my feelings about Korean MMORPGs, then yes, I find that you're ignorant if you can't see that MMORPGs that come out of South Korea and some from Japan, China, and Malaysia are a bonafide MMO subgenre.  There's nothing in TERA that breaks away from the mold of the typical Korean quest grinder aside from the real time combat which WILL grow stale in about a month.  The fact that you take offense to my comments regarding Korean MMORPGs indicates to me that you are a fan of this type of game which means you are the exact type of niche fan EnMasse hopes to attract. While this means that you will enjoy TERA, this also means that you are most likely incapable of giving an object opinion.

That said, of the p2p games out there now, this would be the last one I would pick, not even close.

Well, look back into your crystal ball and tell me the next lotto numbers.

Your opinion is backed by really compelling evidence, and it noted.

    No one cares.   still.

Well shit, now I don t know what to do, you don t like me:( I can have my opinions, calm down, your game will be here to play. I think it s crap, you don t, funny how opinions work.

Not liking you would assume that I have put some effort toward you, besides forum posts.

Damn, now I m definately going to cry in a corner. Mellow out, your game, alot of people don t like , who cares.

    @Leucent

Your predictions are a little out there don't you think? It's not as though people don't know what they are getting into. Beyond that the game itself is a quality, fully featured AAA MMO. It's not hiding behind anything secreting away some dark secret. If anything it's getting better by the day.

I don't know what basis you have for your assertions.

Just not worth my time anymore.
