TERA for MMO GAME OF THE YEAR!!
/reset
If anything the OP was giving compliments to the other games, even one that no one is talking about . I think these are valid points, well, maybe not the game of the year but I think TERA will have a lot better retention ratio than some other titles might.
TERA failed in Korea and it'll do the same here. The Secret World has a better chance at being successful, meanwhile Guild Wars 2 will be a guaranteed hit.
that is 100 % false. in fact Tera is the number 3 most played MMO in korea , a year after.
Fact: You do not know that GW2 will not be a hit (Your 100% false is 100% false)
Another Fact...GW2 isn't released yet and this isn't Korea.
Let me give you an OPINION that has a 99.9%chance of becoming a Fact: GW2 will be the next King of MMOs.
If I am wrong then the 0.1% chance came true.
Move along now.

Where is everyone discussing Tera supposed to "Move along now" to?
I was told to "move along" also. Maybe if you find out we can share a ride
If you go to the games link, you can see almost 600 games listed.....I think.. Well, anyway, it's a lot.
TERA is a persistent world game with certain instanced areas.
I think you confused seamless with persistent. Tera is a seamless world, it is however not persistent, at least not to my knowledge. No theme park is persistent (except maybe those that allow guild or player housing than they are semi-persistent). As part of the definition of persistent world means being able to permanently change the world. I.E. Ultima Online.
On to the op, I don't think it will make mmorpg of the year. I think it will do well, even though I don't particularly like it. My opinion is that those who like a more twitch based pvp will enjoy it. So maybe it will be a succesful niche game, much like EvE is a very succesful niche game. Only thing I disagree with is that the graphics are better than AoC. Cleaner, more advanced engine sure maybe. I can't however stand the art style in any way. AoC has a very real world look, as will TSW it's the one thing I like about funcom a great deal. So the graphics being the best, well that's in the eye of the beholder.
Isn't this game supposed to just be another Korean Grind-fest of an MMO?
The game got a load of hate and dislike from the community here, for reasons of the game being too generic, showing nothing new at all to the genre. In the end, making the game seem pretty mediocre from gameplay videos and reviews.
Can't see it getting anywhere really, if anything I'd see this game going f2p at some point in the future just like alot of MMOs will.
I'm not saying the game is bad, from what I've played it's pretty interesting and the combat is the seller with it imo.
But for the game to be a "hit" and for the game to stay subscription based for a long time, I just don't see it happening with the amount of hate and dislike for this game.
I think you may be right. A lot will depend on what kind of content is added and how quickly they get it implemented. I definitely think this game has the makings of a really terrific game, and I hope it has a great community as well.
So far, I'm more impressed with TERA than I have ever been with GW2. I just have a soft spot for open, seamless worlds.
TERA's questing looks very boring to me in videos. Sorry. I can't get past that. The little "!" over their heads and everything....sorry, no, too same old same old for me. The combat looks phat, but that's not enough to attract me. This is a title that I will certainly have to wait a few months after release to even consider, and like I said....unless their quest system changes, I think I'm out on this one.
Just one opinion though, not the gaming gospel here.
But for the game to be a "hit" and for the game to stay subscription based for a long time, I just don't see it happening with the amount of hate and dislike for this game.
Well, to be fair, if you are going to judge a game's possible success based on the amount of hate it receives from this site, then you aren't likely to believe any game will be successful. If we're judging a game's credentials based on hate, then WoW would have been F2P years ago, and SWTOR would have been scrapped before launch. Never, ever, judge a game's worth by the knuckleheads that inhabit this board. The best any of us can do is try the game ourselves and make our own predictions based on that.
Maybe its the fun that SWTOR brought to questing..but TERA's quest system kills the game for me, end of story. It's WoW quests, that's it, no innovation, just..here's a wall of text you don't read, here's a quest that you don't give a rat's ass about, here's a little exp, rinse and repeat.
SWTOR may have lots of flaws..but atleast the quests are involved and feel like they mean something.
Whether it's WoW style quests or not, I honestly don't care. As long as it has a decent sized population, smooth gameplay, along with it's supposed great graphics, then it'll do very nicely until GW2 is released.
I think you may be right. A lot will depend on what kind of content is added and how quickly they get it implemented. I definitely think this game has the makings of a really terrific game, and I hope it has a great community as well.

It looks boring because it IS boring, haha. Can't lie about that. Which is why I don't plan on doing much of it when I play. Doing storyline quests, exploring, and hunting BAMs and killing mobs will provide enough xp to level at a good pace, and keep me interested. Throw in some dungeons here and there and I'll be fine.
I'm definitely not going to play this game for the questing. But I like the fact that you don't have to.
The questing, is, yes boring. The game itself is ok, and I mean ok, but I wouldn t pay a monthly sub for this ever. I think it will go the Aion/EQ2/LOTRO/DDO/COH etc etc. route sooner then the games mentioned. I just don t see much lasting appeal past 2 weeks to a month.
When I started the beta, I was all into it, but after the second time, and definately third beta, i couldn t take it at all. Uninstalled and swore off Tera until it goes F2P, and even then I doubt. I feel there will be much better games released in that time.
Of course this is all opinion on my part, but the consensus with most of the people I know all say the same thing.
Is this a joke post??? Tera is short for Terable...look...they couldn't even spell terrible right.
1. The mobs in the game make no sense in their environment....none at all....and in the first 13 levels that I did play, none of the mobs seemed much different than each other....sure they looked different (some of them), but seriously???
2. Every other type of mob is a single mob and every other type of mob from that is a big mob with several small mobs....over and over and over again...next big game when they can't even spend time on making mobs more unique?
3. The Action part of the game is completely missing....it's aim with point and click....action oriented is a bad way to define that.
4. the game world appeared to share the same flaws as Aion....terrible textures in certain spots, great in others.
5. The worst of all is that through 10 levels of gameplay I must have gotten at least 20 new pieces of gear....wouldn't know that though because they never changed my appearance....
All these signs point to this game being a typical Asian grinder with pretty sparkles....
please dont ever post that this game will be the sleeper of the year....it WILL be the snoozer of the year though.
completely gearless based pvpr In other words, no form of progression or achievement. Hell, your name doesn't even show up while PvP'ing, so people never know who killed who. How is that fun at all?

everyone gets their own loot based on what they did So, no mob tagging + measured contributions based on what you do. What could possibly go wrong? Not that it matters, loot is worthless in this game. How quaint.
limiting players to about a dozen skills to b used at one time"Limiting" being the key word here. What freedom!
no gear grinding And no endgame.
WvWvW Gigantic Battleground that is completely separate from the persistent world.
no open world pve where you get gankedNo open world anything, actually. Everything is separated into nice little compartments so the players don't get their feelings hurt by other mean players when playing.
there wont b pvp, pve,rp servers theres no nee No need for PvP and PvE because there is no open world element to the game. Most would consider this a negative. No rp? Why? Guess RPers get screwed in this game.
can do almost anything in the game from lvl 1 dont have to get to max lvll to get the "real game" A nice way of saying "no endgame content." But let's see a level 1 match up with a level 30 player in WvWvW, and then tell me that's a practical idea. SWTOR got butchered by people complaining about not having PvP level tiers. And somehow you think this will be a good idea for GW2?

im sure i could go on but gw2 does more to change MMOs than any other game ive seen recently They certainly do more things "differently." I think many people will find that it may not be a good thing, though.
couldn't have said it better.
And wtf how are we on page 32? last time i checked it was 16....
What this game has going for is that unlike most launches Tera has a year of polish behind it, and En Masse keeps making changes to the game for the better. It's cute to see people that can't make it past level 20 trolling the game, but once the game is out and people hit level 60 all that trolling will stop. Everybody knows endgame is where the money is at, and Tera's endgame is unique to every other MMO out there thanks to the political system. Guilds will be fighting over Vanarch for months.
Another thing is that GW2 still doesn't have a release date, I think if the game was going to come out in June, or July they would have said something by now. If the game gets pushed back to September release with an Open beta in August, Tera will have all summer to clean house.
A whole summer is way too long for even the most hardened GW2 fan to sit around with their thumbs up their butts.

I read the red and I am laughing. Don't get me wrong, I want to play GW2. (Dual pistol thief is something I want to try)
But when i read the red, it sounds like that game should be called "No Child Left Behind Online"
This is going to be a nitch game in the U.S., mainly for two reasons.
Theme/art: Some will love it, but based on the numbers playing your typical asian ftp, I don't see a huge following. Pedo-bear says say away.
The other is paying for a box and a sub for an asian ftp. If as an american, I am going to ptp a game, why not Wow, or Tor, or Secret wars, or any of the order games what have gone ftp but still offer nice reasons to subbers?
Now I don't mean to say this game is going to be DOA, but this game with how it looks and how it plays, you have to like that style at lot since its so heavily influenced by it.
The quests aren't spectacular though the main story is nice. The great thing is that the quests are not required to progress, they are there if you want to do them. The main selling point for me, other than the combat of course, is the open world and the abundance of group content. I'm looking at it as an new old school game with all the latest trimmings.
In the end for any MMO to be successful it has to be run right. TERAs long term success is on EME/BHS's shoulders.
With all these other high profile MMOs running ramparnt atm (SWTOR/TSW/GW2) I feel that TERA might just be that sleeper that makes a bigger spalsh than people are predicting. I tried out the CBT but didnt really get into it much as I knew my character was going to be deleted, I didnt want to get too attached. Now that Open Beta is upon us and we actually get to keep the character through to launch (normally unheard of) then I can really sink my teeth in.
This will be what Final Fantasy XIV and AION should have been (for the western audience) and I forsee a smooth laucnh.
Not to mention, it will knock Age of Conan off for being the best looking MMO. I simply have not seen better graphics (better than GW2 too) on PC, EVER!! Thats right, this has to be the most beautiful piece of electronic artwork I have ever seen!
If you have not seen it in action, you are missing it!
TERA for MMO GAME OF THE YEAR!!
As long they are commited to solve TERA's biggest tick , which is the lack of end-game content. I think this game is going somehwere , not WoW-killer , but it will probably take a place for subscription-based game.

The common misconception is that what was released in Korea and Japan is what we are getting here. It's true that TERA was the easts Vanguard but they have updated/changed KTERA for the last year and a half. It's only now starting to get back up in the charts as it's hard to recover from a rocky launch.
We are getting that updated TERA plus the additions that EnMasse Entertainment (TERAs NA publisher) had done to the game to westernize it. This is more than just translations however. They have removed and tweaked many aspects of the game seperately from KTERA based on feedback over the last 5 beta tests.
