I have played the open beta weekends since October. This game has a lot to offer to various gaming styles. I can see PvP players liking the arenas. Personally, I am one of those casual gamers at this point in my life. I can jump in and explore the world at my leisure and thoroughly enjoy myself. Definitely a fun way to pass some "kick back" time.
Playd all the betas so far.The most action is set on pvp, last beta event they added new systems to guild vs guilds different tactics there also now. Also theres tombs, arenas thats the pvp side(alot of different maps). For rpg gamers who dont enjoy lots of pvp can explore the huge and beatiful maps , (every1 has to do their exploring in retail because of elite and good skills wont be able to buy/get from charms and charm traders no more.)Game has a realy good engine theres basicaly no lagg/lag, even for the 56k users, at every map in beta u have to take ur time(i mean the 56k users the maps are about 1+ mb usualy) do download the contents but when you buy the cd u get most of the data on it.
New on guildwars from other online games is that all the missions u do and quests effect u later in game, lets say u skip a quest do get ur missions done asap. but after skiping a quest u might be not able to do som mission because (a quest where u have to free a person, u dont free him by skiping the quest) and u dont see the person(because u didnt set him free) and cant do the mission.
By retail there gonna be a boss monsters also for more rpg side som higher lvl dragons etc.
A good game i sugest it definatly for pvp fans and rpg ones also.
The friend key your talking about is for one beta weekend... And that is about it...
Some people are disillusioned about this game. The graphics are great compared to Diablo II; however, compared to more recent releases such as FFXI etc, this games graphics are mediocre. The cut-scenes are absolutely terrible! From corny expressions to un-necessarily dramatic movements, speechless characters unfold the story! Cut scenes from FFXI are more promising than this game, which is pretty sad.
Perhaps there is no lag while playing the game; how about the loading time for the game? If you use a 56k modem to even a 256k dsl, expect serious sitting time when you enter new areas. Why? Guild Wars uses a brilliant streaming technology that makes you download areas as updates occur. Subarashii desu ne! Why didnt they include the areas pre-downloaded so you dont need to wait 30 mins to load that mission? I have been frustrated many times as countless of my slower members d/c, there seems to be a 5 minute cut off time for slow connections. (As an alternative you can enter the mission by yourself, exit and then join a party)
Other complaints are regular complaints encountered in other MMORPGs or things due to the beta status. Examples: OoooOo your character looks so cool, like the others, but with food coloring. Are you sure you're not a fruit loop? Or: Ok, we need 2 wars with monk subs, either a couple of ranger or elementalists, and WE NEED a dedicated monk. *2 hours later* LOOKING FOR MONK!!! Beta example: *Enters new beta weekend* O shizz. Gotta make that guild again... letzee... who was in the guild again? O.o Or: *Picks up some random crafting item* ... they wont stack... O this one has a new value to it x.x Or: Gwens tapestry shred. Wtf is it, a gimic? HEY GIVE ME MY FLOWERS BACK!! -_-;
The missions get repetitive especially after you make a couple of characters. I am buying this game because my other friends are buying it...
Originally posted by High_tower Hey guys. How many of you have been playing the game guild wars the last 3 months? I have but what du you think of the game? I think its a pretty good game, though i dont think it will bring WoW down but ist a good candidate. So lets move on, as I said, what do you think of the, is it playible or do you think ist all crap.:) Let me her it. //Jonathan
I think GW, once on line 24/7, will be one of the biggest success stories in the PC game world. As far as Guild Wars bringing WoW down, I don't believe that was or is the purpose of Guild Wars. From the past 5 Beta weekends that I have played GW I never even gave WoW or any other MMORPG a second thought. Sure every game maker builds their game to be the best it can be and some will try to create the best game that is on the market at the moment. I feel that Arenanet and NCSOFT hve gone beyond that to the point of tryng to make the Game of Games. From what I have experienced I think they have built a game they want to be around for the next 20 years, always growing always improveing. Starting the game you dont find yourself standing in a room barefoot with only a pocket knife and wearing a tunic, with no power and the town elders sending you on some quest to clear the mice out of the basement of a near buy tavern. Instead your given a Warrior or Mage or what every class you may be and a minor set of armor and the correct weapon for you starting class. The learning curve is pretty quick, you may spend the first hour doing mid level quests fighting fairly powerful monsters designed to get you used to the system and your powers. Then you can join a group and go for the RPG quests or head straight to the arena and fight PvP. If you want more experience you have the choice and you can go it alone and head into the open areas to find fame and fortune in PvE mode and then after you feel you have built your PC up you can find and join a Guild or start one of your own. I believe Guild Wars has been built to show the game world that you don't need to spend $10.00 - $20.00 a month to play a high grade RPG Adventure game with thousands of others on-line. Then at the same time playing the best MMORPG ever made. Three more weeks and the Guild Wars game world will take on a life like no other MMOG has ever seen before. That's saying alot because there are alot of great MMOG's out there and to be the Best is not easy but I truly believe Guild wars has spent the past few years building that Game of Games and this time next month we will see just what GW has become after all the hard work the developers have done.
Don't pull on a Dragons tail you never know where it's been!!
I totally agree, i mean there are not many MMOs where you can jump in and feel equal to everyone else. I mean every class is well balanced (although i have to say some are more useful in pvp than others) and no doubt every class IS AMZINGLY FUN!!!!!!! definitely a must have.....i have not seen many people say bad things about this game. Remember theses words "APRIL 28!!!!!!"
This game is just too much fun! Best MMO type of game I have ever played, and I have played almost all of the major ones!!! I have been playing GW since the E3 demo and it just keeps getting better and better!
Guild Wars has been by far the best MMORPG that I have played to date. Subscription based games will always have their place, but for those who have always liked the concept of MMORPG's except never had/wanted to spend the time climbing the leveling ladder, Guild Wars will be an attractive game.
I am extremely impressed with the developement crew at AreneNet and the game that they have managed to put together. In the few beta weekend events that I have played in, I have found it difficult to find an element of the game that I don't enjoy.
I will without doubt be purchasing the game when it comes out at the end of the month, and would recommend it to anyone looking for either a PvE mmorpg to explore, or a new competitive PvP game to get into. Guild Wars is one of the rare games that comes out every now and then that I can truthfully give a 10/10 to.

I just finished playing the Weekend Beta Event and I think I will invest money to buy the copy come april 28th. It is an interesting concept they are trying to go with. Having you max out at level 20 and immense yourself in PVP. I enjoyed the RPing version with my elementalist, but when I made an archer on PVP server it seemed dull and boring, because if your priests died you lose, and the flag system was odd. I also didn't understand the point at PvPing at lvl 20 when your exp/loot/story doesnt increase. The items I found in roleplaying were blue and unidentified like diablo, so that was cool, I only got to level 5 but the quests were superb, the graphics were nice, and it is easy to download the game on the go as it is only 73kb.
From what ive read in the interviews from the developers the point of PvP is to try and get top ranked and it opens up access to rare items, new abilities, and other perks. So whether your a PvP freak who just has to be top ranked or a PvE freak who has to have all the rare items and abilities etc.. it makes the PvP worth while if those comments where true.
