Well friends, for me Tera is "The Game", the combat aspect of the game, the fluid character controls and the vivid animation hooked me so badly to this game. Now drop some friends along the way and voila you are starting to cook something that called FUN.
And honestly i havn't had that much fun in an MMORPG game since L2.
Sure Tera has it's flaws, like anything else in life, but i am not gonna drop it just because of those flaws, i am gonna stand my ground and try to make it better.
For the ones that will populate this awesome world, hope you won't be on the wrong edge of my weapon
If my gf had the option to create a female character with actual clothes / armor on... we might have given it a try.
But hence, this just another Asian game with oversexualised female characters and a teenage girl race for the pedofiles.
Thanks but no thanks. Was an instant turn-off for us.
LOL my wife was so pissed that she could not make a female Char that did not moon her all the time, and just had pants on. She ended up rolling a male just so that she would not have to stare at as she called it "plasitc shiny ---"
its true that the quests are generic and linear but thats just how mmorpg's are and i actually enjoy em like that so long as they dont go overboard. i dont see it changing anytime soon, till we have flying cars and virtual reality.
There are 2 mmos releasing in 2 months that have less generic quests and branching advancement. Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World. Much less static fetch and kill quests.
Basically Tera gives you a sparkly aerodynamic hammer with awesome sound effects and asks you to hammer 1,000 nails in a row. The first 10 nails were fun for me. Then it got old.
GW2 and TSW give a nice personalized configurable hammer and give you 1,000 nails, 1,000 bolts, 1,000 planks of wood and a leprechaun. Then lets you do whatever you want to do.
After playing mostly solo for about 10 hours I can say that Tera is a group game. The combat while fun at first, gets carpal tunnell after a while and the mindless quests do not get you involved in the story at all like say SWTOR, so you are reliant on the action all the time combat. I can see this game being much more fun in groups and with a guild , while a game like SWTOR is fun solo and good but not great in groups
I just dont get people, if you have been playing MMOs since 2005 or before you have probably tried many diferent mmos, im pretty damn sure by now you are tire of doing quests, i bet 5 years ago doing quests was the most fun you ever had.
My Point is the Genre will be the same for a long time, why?
if you want to follow a lore you need to quest.
If we didnt have quests, all we do is grind! till the cap.
I was looking for a game that wont make me feel asleep while raiding!, WOW spam same old 3 keys (mage) and fall Sleep.
Tera You have to move Dodge and be active or you will die.
That alone is good enough for me.
Now one thing i dislike is the 1st Instance i did was way too easy.
Running and pulling 2 rooms, tanking the mobs and them AOE the heck out of it.

Sorry for my Bad english.
Solution: Make the quests interesting. Make quests that affect the whole zone or region, and cause other quests to become available. Make quests that involve fun characters who have good voice overs.
Killing 10 baby pigs boucing up and down and making googoo gaga noises is not a good quest.

"Loading screens" are not "instances". Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.
It's all fine and well with people not liking Tera, someone made also some valid points. I'm asking this to the people predicting doom and despair for Tera and its fans.
Provided that I prepurchase GW2, what bother me are GW2 fans coming on Tera forum and acting like we are all stupid kids who don't like Tera but who want to pay and play it just to challenge the real king.
No one here on Tera forum ever said Tera will be a greater success than GW2 and a lot of people have already said they'll play GW2 too.
So what do you think to obtain by coming here trying to diminsh Tera? It makes no sense.
If you are try to prove GW2 will be a bigger success than Tera as I said no one thinks otherwise.
If you are trying to convinve a fan of Tera that Tera is a bad game, you are bound to fail. Like someone is bound to fail in trying to prove you that GW2 is a bad game.
If you are trying to manipulate public opinion I hope you understand how futile this is, 99% of the possible customers for both games don't read forums.
The only thing you are obtaining is make me dislike a game, that I liked since GW1, showing just how bad and childish is its fanbase.
And not just that, you are inviting some people to retailate on the GW 2 forum and in this way a vicious circle is created.
That being said, GW2 is B2P and Tera is P2P I don't see why you are so annoyed if i want to play both, if you worry for my wallet fear thou not, I can manage my finances by myself without help from do-gooders.
EDIT: Has never occurred to you that we may genuinely enjoy tera and you don't because we like different things? And that if you don't like something doesn't mean that this something can only be trash?
OP you actually have the balls to say that after playing 1 level? like 5 minutes, your pretty disgraceful mate, It gets alot more fun 25+ and its still fun under 25, a bloody good game. Ontop of that gw 2 will be good yes, but from what ive seen and heard its catered mainly towards casuals, so will be a good game to play part time yeah, but generally not your main focus. And are you kidding me? The S*** World, TSW, is by far the worst looking mmorpg i have seen in 5 years, i would rather go play Aoc, Aion, War, Swtor, Wow etc... and now that is saying something, this is from someone who has played the beta, so not being judgemental for no reason.
After playing mostly solo for about 10 hours I can say that Tera is a group game. Thank you, I have been on this forums for a long time hearing people complain about the quest system, and it just boggles my mind why people are struggling with it. People are saying that Tera leveling is boring because it's quest based, and that they have to kill stuff all the time? Getting quests, killing stuff, and leveling up is literally a common staple in pretty much every MMO. Yes they all do it in different ways, but it's essentially the same thing. But all of a sudden Tera is an MMO that has quests, completely ignoring the action combat part of it, and now all of a sudden it's a problem?
But you really hit the nail on the head, the problem isn't that the game is not fun because it has too many quests. The problem is that the game is not fun SOLO. Yes Tera is a group game, it's a trinity game, and everything falls into place when you start grouping.
What's interesting about Tera is that the quest system makes is ridiculously easy to group. When you group up in Tera you don't get the exp cut like in other MMOs, all people in the group get credit for quest drops whereas other people would usually have to farm twice as much in other games. You can even mine the same nodes and get bonuses for it. If you party with one other person, it literally cuts your questing time down by a good 30-50%. In Tera unlike other MMOs they really Want People to Group. There's absolutely no reason not to.
I've never had that issue personally because when I see someone in the same quest as me, I simply ask them if they want to quest, and they almost always accept. Maybe it's also because I play on a PvP server where there's also that safety in numbers element, but I've never had that experience where questing was so terrible or boring.
I know a lot of people are just not used to grouping, because all other MMOs now a days have made grouping outside of dungeons a comple joke. As an indirect result, these MMOs end up with a largely fragmented/unfriendly community. But Tera's in-game (and forum) community is very good, and I encourage people that are not enjoying the questing to just find one other person, tell them that about the 30+% downtime benefit to grouping, and I'm sure they will comply.
and now I finally understand where these players are coming from when they are complaning about Tera's questing system. Thank you for your post.
I find it funny how suddenly quest is the only thing people look at. I mean it used to be all about how good the end game content was, suddenly Tera hits and its all about quest? Since when?
I played yesterday for like 10 hours. I have to say I have changed my mind completely, this game is epic fun. So I finally decided to try the first dungeon out to see how it goes and man was I surprised, the bosses are actually decent in difficulty. Then we have the open world pvp. At first I was dissapointed 'cause that was the only way to PVP but atm it is great fun. I only feel bad for the low levels as I see lot of high level people camping them. All in all I must say I was wrong about this game, it sure has its flaws but for now I really like this game and I am looking forward to 3. May

Why not rally others to serve as bodyguards for these lowbies? Imagine the fun that can ensue from that.

That is true, but the downside is that the power gap with a difference of even 3 levels is really high. The people camping them were levels 30 and some were even 33 ( don't know they managed to get past the beta cap but w/e ) Although you are right I can see such events happening on release

You can't physically camp players, because it's possible to switch channels, which are shards of the same server. Generally gankers like to hand out on the most popular channels, so just switch to the least popular ones and you're good to go. Also these players that are actively trying to camp others do not get any rewards or exp for camping. So even if they have a 3 level lead it's very easy to close the gap in an hour or two of leveling.
Lastly it's only possible to attack players like that on a PvP server. I can't tell you how many ex-Aion players are absolutely in love with the fact that W-Tera has separate PvP/PvE servers. It was a complete deal breaker for a lot of players in Aion that were strictly PvE becoming fodder for PvP gankers. Unlike in Tera which uses a skill based combat system, there literally was no chance to fight back in Aion's tab targetting + gear = click your dead OWPvP.
Everybody on Tera's PvP server has basically agreed to allow other players to attack them so that they can attack others in World PvP, so nobody should be complaining.
Aaaa, nothing like players making other players not want to play the game. Not sure how often this happens but that would be a pretty crappy predicament yes? You want more players to play the game to make it successfully yet you keep camping them over and over when you are 10 levels higher. Maybe those lower lvl players don't know how to change the channel?
That is one of the things you have to face with an Open World PVP game. It is all a matter of where you want to engage in fighting your foes. But it would be beneficial to the campers to let the low lvls level up so there were more players in the game to fight with at higher levels instead of pissing them off so they decide not to play the game. But yea...they chose a PVP server...
Honestly there are Channels and teleporters. You might get ganked once or twice but unless you retardlly constantly go back to where PKers are this is never a issue. I only got ganked like once outside of GvG, and that was by people 5 lvl below me back during cbt2 coz me and my friend finish some quest and was lvl 19 and went back to lumbertown via the bridge. When we got close to the bridge something suddenly started hitting us so we killed all 4 of them (2 of us) and they complain about us pking them w hen they decide to attack us o.0 pkers are so weird =
First a brief history of my mmo burnouts and the time it took to set in. WoW took me 3 years, Rift 3 months, SWTOR 30 days and now we arrive at TERA. After trudging through the tutorial, getting to the mainland and beating up walking tree men until I hit level 2, I decided I have played this game before. Save yourself the $50 and wait for TSW or GW2 as they are both likely to offer something new to the genre. So if you still don't believe me go ahead and download the open beta client and see for yourself. This game had already been in release in the East so how could anyone think it would be the next big thing? It's like WoW, Rift, Lineage 2 and Aion all wrapped up in one and you will be happier watching GW2 videos on YouTube... believe me.
If you really gave up after one level and already then decided that it is like other games then in fact you just licked icecream through the glass and claimed that they don't taste well for sure. Seriously not saying that TERA is either good or bad. But real picture of TERA starts with basilisks and celestial hills. If you didn't see that then you saw nothing.
I understand that if you look at Tera and GW2 comparison that Tera will seem more like the traditional MMO due to it's trinity system, and GW2 is the place for people that want something new.
However I do not agree with this assestment at all. It's more accurate to say that both Tera and GW2 offers something new to the MMO genre.
GW2 - No trinity, "endgame at level 1", Structured PvP, WvWvW PvP.
I didn't list Dynamic Events, because Dynamic events is not new, they are just glorified large scale public quests that eventually reset and have no impact on the world itself. Personal Story is not a new feature, SW:TOR has the same system.
Tera- Combat, Political system, Open World PvP.
So you can argue that GW2 is more of a game for players that want something "new" because it offers slightly more unique features then Tera's unique features. However to players that actually like the Trinity, and like endgame, removing those two aspects will certaintly make GW2 different, but not necessarily better. Lastly people downplay Combat, like it's only 25% of what players do in the game. Combat literally effects EVERYTHING you do in PvP and PvE. I hear comments all the time from players that actually played Tera to level 20+ saying that they can't go back to tab targetting MMOs anymore. I haven't played GW2 but I would love to hear similiar comments about it's combat system.
What I'm saying is that both games offer a lot of innovative features to the MMO genre, but to me Tera offers a lot more innovation then what I have seen in GW2. Also I know I did not list every single fanboy feature of GW2. This post was actually quite larger, and I purposefully truncated the features that both GW2 and Tera shared so that I could get my point across without a wall of text.
Tera has nothing new, everything tera has that is beleived to be new like what you said all were all in darkfall which came out like 2-3 years ago.

While it's true that Tera is really lacking in the innovation department: Darkfall is a sandbox game you can't compare it to Tera.

Oh sorry! Didn't know about the level disparity

go play The Sims Social, im sure there is no killing to level up, so far i'm level 74.

I'm sorry, but that's just not accurate AT ALL.
Tera has nothing new, everything tera has that is beleived to be new like what you said all were all in darkfall which came out like 2-3 years ago.
exact same thing apply to gw2 lol.
While it's true that Tera is really lacking in the innovation department: Darkfall is a sandbox game you can't compare it to Tera.
