I can tell you that the trolling isn't just Tera related, it seems that Diablo 3 players are in the same boat. People play the game to level 13 of D3 beta and then complain like the first 13 levels is the whole game. And then the GW2 vs Diablo 3 comparisons? Why?!? It's generally accepted that this is the #1 site for people that want to bash games they don't like instead of talking about the games they do like.
Yea i noticed that over the D3 board.
I will tell you something, I preordered Tera, Diablo 3 and I prepurchased GW2 and I bet i'll enjoy all the three.
I know it is mind-blowing and i don't even know if it's legal on this board, but i'm going to do it anyway.
sorry u lose ur credibility for doing a review from 1-12, any new mmo is amazing from 1-12 come back when u hit max level. Swtor beta was amazing from 1-10, 11-20 ok, 21-30 getting boring, 31-50 k finally max out time to cancel my preorder. u see my point.
SWTOR beta was not amazing from 1-10, not even close. By the time I was level 5 I knew exactly what a POS of a so called MMO it was going to be. I just dredged though many more levels trying to find some glimmer of hope for the game, which I never found. co-op online RPG's are not MMORPG's. Scripted stories by a dev is not a personal story. In EQ people had real personal stories. I had the best personal story in XI. The best personal story is a blank page in which you as a player write. What you described about tor is the "new game feeling". So many people are blinded by it in every MMO relese.
The thing about TERA that bothers me is lack of PvE. But for the PvP'ers who enjoy PvP'ing hope you guys enjoy it. With my limited knowlage of this game, I know its more of an MMO than TOR will ever be.
Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore) Now Playing: N/A Worst MMO: FFXIV Favorite MMO: FFXI
SWTOR when it was released I did not like it at all, I felt it was better suited as a single player rpg, the game was too easy, the classes were not fun, skills and combat did not feel fluid, the PVE instances were not fun. I did not like the game at all. I gave the game a 3/10 only points for graphics and voice acting and a point for it actually be a sci fi star wars online rpg. I was called a troll and blasted non stop, but in the end SWTOR lived up to be a horrible MMORPG.
Now i played teras open beta, and wow, I have been critical of every mmorpg released, age of conan, swtor, lotro, vanguard etc etc, any every time I blast them I was called a WoW fan boy and a troll but in the end these games went to or are going to free to play and ended up not being good.
As a huge WoW fan, "PRE Cataclysm". I started tera, right off the back I was wowed by the graphics incredible, but graphics do not win me over, gameplay does, and boy does it sure live up to it, I have access to diablo 3 beta and I have yet to really touch it, TERA is very addicting, combat while not revolutionary still feels extremely fluid and fun, I made a popori lancer that looked like a puppy and the combat was great fun, I felt like I was in complete control of my character and it made grinding "if any grinding", less boring because combat was actually fun.
The quest were kill X to get Y, but I didnt mind it, I knew what I was getting into another theme park mmorpg which it is no denying it, but the monsters looked great, I couldnt wait to kill something new cause each new monster looked creepy and more bad ass than the next. Quest while some were interesting were like what you see in every mmorpg they have their ups and their downs, but leveling was quick and rewarding through questing.
So i get to level 12, I get my mount and I head to the first PVP area, the lumber thingy I cant remember the name, but there were level 20s - 30s ganking outside the area, which I found thrilling, I never felt this thrill since UO, and with it being non factioned based you formed your own allies to try to push them back. I loved the ganking part even though I was being ganked because of the thrill, running outside, collecting my quest items and looking around my shoulder to hurry up and getting back on my mount.
With this mmorpg not having factions is a huge plus, factions should not be in mmorpgs, they only break the community, and causes a huge imbalance (SWTOR) for example. This is a huge huge plus that I can form alliances or enemies with any one.
So far I played the game 1-12 as a lancer, so far its been AMAZING one of the best next gen mmorpgs to come out and one of the best mmorpgs to come out since WOW. I have already made a pre order. Long live TERA
glad to hear it. Remind me not to roll on a PvP server. Just kidding, sounds like fun!
For alot of people, ganking gets very annoying after awhile. I used to like it too, played SB, and it even became boring for the one doing the gankong after awhile. It s always a big thing when a game with this mechanic releases, then becomes the same few guilds owning a server. This in itself will wreck the OWPvP. If this was my forst MMO with this mechanic, I might argue with what I ust said, but it s not, and I ve seen it in ever game that offers this.
But the beauty of it is, there are servers for those that dont want this kind of game play and those who do. Those seeking the SB/UO era gameplay will definitely love pvp servers those who dont will go to PVE servers. Why would some one that doesnt like or like the thrill of being ganked go to a PVP server?
Comparing Tera to UO or SB is like comparing a piece of rotten fruit you found in the trash to a freshly made Subway sandwitch.
There are few if any games that appeal to everyone but there is at least a game for each of us somewhere if we get to find it then that's great, I think that a lot of the OP negative points about SWTOR were purely matters of preference, but the way they were presented was inflammatory & asking for a backlash.
I do not agree that SWTOR is a bad MMORPG, it has it's faults like any game & there are a lot of things I certainly wish had been done differently but at the end of the day it suits my personal tastes better, no matter the game if it has solo content it CAN be played as a single-player game this is a choice the player has to make, it simply does not have to be played like a single-player game just because it can be, I prefer raiding & that activity to me is very social by nature, I also like to craft/trade & chat away on all kinds of topics in general & guild, I'm a social player at heart & I think SWTOR is what you make it, though it's difficult to make a sandbox out of it a sandbox as a concept is very different things depending on who it is that you ask.
I think TERA has a lot going for it, I do not think SWTOR or TERA are any better than each other but SWTOR was more to my taste than TERA was, had TERA not gone with Frogster as publisher in Europe I would have bought the game & given it more time but my past experiences with Frogster strongly put me off, which is a pity in some ways.

Haha it's totally illegal. Logical statements like that are the talk of heathens.
Glad you found a game you can enjoy OP. You seem to dislike a lot of games according to your post though. I realize that this is a public forum and basically anything typed here should be construed as opinion, however you do make you statements seem like fact, which can lead to the troll label. Also I have found that often times when people even use the word troll in their title, it just might be a bs post, not saying yours is though. Anyways, have fun with Tera. I didn't get time to try the game out and don't have time today to dl the thing, looks like a pretty fun game though.
I actually think the gameplay of TERA to be actually quite weak. The combat isn't fluid at all, and in the end you just stay still and spam your skills like you do in tab-targetting MMORPG, the only difference being that you must be looking at where you hit if you're a ranged class. Dodging doesn't really take a very active part of the game as animations are too long, restrictive and hard to cancel. In terms of gameplay, games like Dragon Nest and C9 are far superior, as they have a much more fluidity and active combat compared to TERA. However, neither of those are Open-World like TERA is, so I'll give points to TERA for that. But beyond the open world and the graphics, TERA doesn't live up to the hype at all when it comes to combat.

People, an example of someone who didn't play the game but is posting as if he/she did.
Dodging/blocking cancels most of the animations in-game. Had you played you would've known this.
If you stand there while mobs wail on you, you *will* die. Health was lowered across the board for the lower levels and mobs hit you harder.
Nevermind, what am I saying. This person stood head-to-head with one of the elite monsters in-game and didn't die. Congrats, you're the first.
Standing still while minions wail on you will also guarantee you...ah screw it, why do I bother.
sorry u lose ur credibility for doing a review from 1-12, any new mmo is amazing from 1-12 come back when u hit max level.
I know 1-12 isnt far in but I never praised a game unless praise was due, I new SWTOR was garbage from 1-10.
LOL I was going to flame you for posting an opinion of Tera with only 12 levels, except, I played CB4/5 and leveled 6 classes to around level 12...and liked what I saw so much that I preordered in the middle of CB5 and even signed up for a 3 month sub plan.
And here's the good news, you're going to like it even more at level 20+, just got there myself and the world really seems to have opened up.

Become everyone have different taste? No on likes the same things, just like you can take 1 book you think is great give it 10/10 other will give it 3/10 coz they thought it sucked.

PvP tends to be important to me and this game doesn't offer what I'm looking for. I could go into all of the reasons, but really it just feels a lot like a game without PvP features that are common in other MMORPGs. I feel like if you don't include player looting, then the fun part about FFA PvP goes away. And if you don't have a solid FFA PvP system, you better have a solid organized PvP system. This game doesn't have that.
It's just not for me.
You probabaly will almost never find other player loot game unless they make gear completely unimportant in the game. MMO are expansive to make (and games in general getting more expansive) and to get funding for it (unless they had previous titles) they have to make something that would sell. Full loot appeals to a VERY niche group that doesn't do well with general public. Most company won't take the risk and honestly not enough players to support the game.

I personally feel like TERA is boring as hell. I can't stand it, and that's mostly because I've played SW:TOR. Unlike you, I feel like SW:TOR is the right direction for MMO's. They could do things better with it, sure but that's the case with any game, and mostly based on opinions and preferences rather than there being truly something wrong with the game. It feels like an MMO, it plays like an MMO, it's fluid and well polished for the most part for a brand new MMO built off a brand new engine from a company that's never done an MMO before. The quest system is vastly improved from what we're so used to, which is a drab and uncreative, pointless uphill trek rather than an enjoyable and engaging experience which SW:TOR provides for probably the first time in MMO history. I've seen people leave the game, and come back and say they can't play other games now thanks to that game so BioWare is clearly doing many things right. Considering they've got almost 2 million subscribers at this point, and yes that is accurate despite what you might be lead to believe, TERA won't come close to that, and should SW:TOR drop off over time, it's still a really good MMO compared to everything else out there right now. For it to launch with even one million subscribers after it's first month is ridiculously good, and hasn't been matched yet by any game, even WoW launched with 350k players, and stayed that way for the first year of it's release and even saw a drop off for a while. So all this "SWTOR IS BAD" crap can f*ck off til there's any real basis for that, I'm so over it.
TERA on the other hand provides a profoundly dull, and repetitive leveling experience with absolutely 0 feeling of involvement in anything going on in the game world, the animations are cool, the graphics are actually not AS good as they look in a screenshot, even maxed out, something about them look profoundly plastic and...Off.... It runs great for me, but it looks and feels like an old game. I'm tired of MMO's that present a pretty world to look at with virtually no real sense of being a world at all, whether that be presented in a decently in depth story (preferably for me) or otherwise. The combat is cool for 10 minutes, but really in the end all it does is make every encounter feel and look the same. Overall I think this game is going to fail as a subscription game in the U.S. and Europe within a couple months, and that's being liberal with my time allotment on this title.
I know I'm gonna get flamed by TERA fanboy's but if you think this game is going to be more successful than SW:TOR or any other major title in recent history or the near future I'm going to rofl at you in a few months when it's faring far worse than any of them.
Holy mackarel I almost fell off my chair!
Wrap her up boys, she's gone.
Corn or flower?
And plays like mmo? if by mmo you mean coop games than ya you could consider cod and halo mmo too i guess.
Also it is STAR WARS... do you have any idea how many fans there are? They are going ot get good amount of subs no matter what, not after they spend 200m on the game (i swear over half as on marketing)

errr are we playing the same game? Coz the last thing any class get to do is spam skills lol. And its call stategy, play monster hunter and i has almost the exact same combat. And its so much more exciting than DN or c9 because you have to think about wtf you do instead of just go head in and rely on reflex.
Tera seems like it might be fun for 20 levels or so. But I didnt see enough to warrent buying the game and a sub. Maybe if it lost one or the other I would consider it but as of now I'll just play D3 (since it is a preordered gift) until GW2 comes out.
That's weird because most people who play past that point say it gets better due to BAMs, dungeon content and the world opens up. Thanks for the take though.
I truly hope it doesnt go f2p unless that's the only option. I've been hearing about another PvP centric game when it went f2p recently...

yeah, we get it. Every game made past EQ blows, right? I here EQ is free now, go for it.
I am not a fan of TERA, but it does have way more MMO-ness to it's MMORPG than SWTOR does. I've been playing SWTOR since release but come May I don't think I will be playing it anymore. Many members of my 5 year old guild that were playing SWTOR have moved on already. As guild leader I'm trying to hang on for the sake of the guild, but that will not keep me for much longer.
I would almost play TERA if it wasn't for the awful, boring quest/leveling process, the annoyingly stupid cutesy anime elements and the over emphasis on the sexy sexness. I could care less if they are toning down the sex appeal in the game but removing blood from the game just detracts from the immersive element of the gameplay.
The anime cutesy elements turn me off of the game in a big way, the bunny eared chicks and other cutesy anime art design elements seem to clash with the vivid and detailed realistic setings and other characters to me.

I've played the game during CBT, tried out each classes and had a Priest and a Warrior over Lv.25. Especially in the case of ranged classes, I've found myself barely unable to move during the fairly long skill animations, which heavily prolonged battles. Dodging in TERA is in the form of a skill (like Dodge in the Warrior's case). During skills animations, you're often restricted from moving (because they decided to make the skills as flashy as possible with cool animations and all). This is not true for the other games I've mentionned (DN and C9) who have a more fluid combat that requires far more movement and active dodging from the player than it does in TERA, and where movement can cancel most skills and actions.
Monsters in TERA don't really move at all, they stay on the ground (same goes for the players) but can be knocked down. Beyond this, there is very little recoil received from most attacks, which makes combat even less engaging. This is very similar to tab-targetting games as, besides CC skills, very few attacks done will hamper your enemy's movement or action with the exception of knock down effect in TERA, which again allows you to just stand still and spam your skills for a longer period of time. Monsters are just staying still in front of you and attacking, they're acting the same way as they do in tab-targetting games.... moving sandbags. Even Chronicles Of Spellborn had a far more engaging combat than TERA, at least the AI there made the monsters work as a group with the warrior mobs defending the caster mobs, etc.
Sucks that people won't realize how shit this game is until they get to endgame and played it for 2 months and realize that PvP is broken as fuck and it's worse than any WoW expansion as far as RNG is concerned. Insanely bad class balance, lock-on skills, tedious enchancting system and the most meaningless guild wars system ever. Glad I had the chance to play that period on a korean account. This is no better than SWTOR and once peoples honeymoon goggles wear off they'll all go GW2.
SWTOR was and is pure garbage. Tera, same basic crap we've been playing for 10+ years except for the combat. Uninstalled after 10 minutes in some beta a month ago. Tired of playing the same crap over and over. If you enjoy it, more power to you. I think this game will sell 200k-300k copies and it'll be F2P within 6 months.

I don't say this is not what will happen, but why should i deny myself the pleasure to find out by myself?
As a side note, I like GW2 from what i know and I'm going to try it next week, but i see a lot of hard core cynic players like you going on and on, on how we are all fooling ourselve with Tera, then i see the same people giggling like a girl with dreamy eyes on GW2 forum, so what make you so sure GW2 will not be just another of those games?
I'm not saying GW2 will fail, I'm quite sure of the contrary but i'm just curious.
I'm really glad that people have good things to say about this game, as I've already pre ordered. There's nothing worse than pre ordering a game, only to see it bashed daily by people on forums.
I just hope that the EU version doesn't flop, as it's being done by Frogster as opposed to EN Masse.
Ever day is a bad day with Frogster, today a new post popped out on the official board. Apparently the rewards from preorder and collector will be character bound and not account bound, so you can have them only on 1 character.

There's a reason I spent months playing korean tera, it's because I thought it was different from these generic MMORPGs like SWTOR and that the combat system would be great at end game. I already made these mistakes and so when I see all these people talking about how awesome the combat is and how great the endgame seems and how much potential the game has I cringe like crazy. It just sucks having to watch people get excited for something which I know is a genuinely bad game. It's linear, it's the same themepark generic crap we have all played before, they're constantly removing content and censoring and promising that the game will be great. I have played at high level WoW arena in TBC which is far from impressive, but when I compare it to TERA it makes me laugh at how much harder and complex WoW is compared to TERA.
TERA's best aspect is the combat system. Now there is only two issues. one is that they must've realized that your average MMORPG player isn't good enough or interested enough in a game where it's hard even aim at your target, so they dumbed down the combat system to the point where it's a bad gimmick. I play FPS constantly and I can't see how anyone could miss an ability in TERA. I can understand dodging abilities, but you can't fail at hiting your target unless you play with a joystick and footpedals. It's so simple that the enjoyment of having to aim your abilities is completely removed. Then there's the problem with being stuck in your animation. Combine these two and the combat system is dreadful and will in no way be more skilled than your average tab target mmorpg, and especially not GW2 which already have the one good thing in TERAs combat system, dodge.
I could go on and on about pve, aesthetics, questing, enviroments and mobs being repetitive as f¤¤k, but I'm far too tired and will just go to bed. GN and gl with TERA.

L2P TERA combat:
LOL I was going to flame you for posting an opinion of Tera with only 12 levels, except, I played CB4/5 and leveled 6 classes to around level 12...and liked what I saw so much that I preordered in the middle of CB5 and even signed up for a 3 month sub plan.
And here's the good news, you're going to like it even more at level 20+, just got there myself and the world really seems to have opened up.

Become everyone have different taste? No on likes the same things, just like you can take 1 book you think is great give it 10/10 other will give it 3/10 coz they thought it sucked.

OK nite, I won't stress that you answered a rhetorical question instead of my real one
