FRAPS is best, but you'll need a license to get the most out of it. You'll also need a massive HD for scratch video before conversion/editing as FRAPS records .avi video. I get about 1minute/4GB, so yeah, it's a bit nuts!
I dunno what the best is, but I know the worst is Gamecam, stay away from that, but most people use FRAPS.
Problem with fraps is that you either loose a lot of Fps or you loose a lot of quallity. Many of the fraps recordings dont justify the games quallity And if on top of that people use the standard youtube compresiion the result on youtube looks really bad.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
I did a little research and for the money (it is free) I like the Afterburner that has already been mentioned. The file size is also good. Plan on recording 30 second bits of me playing to post on facebook. Tessted it with boarderlands and works how I want. Btw, here is the link http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm to download.
Afterburner by a long shot.. Also it is VERY MUCH POSSIBLE to record both INGAME and MIC using afterburner. While the program itself only lets you select one sound source you can use the windows feature WHAT YOU HEAR or in my case its called Wave under recording (windows sound panel) as the source. That will give let you record all sounds on your pc. Be aware though that if your listening to music it to will be part of your recording.

True, but thanks god 1 TB HD arent much expensive nowadays and i would advise compressing them with Windows Movie Maker ASAP.

i use dxtory, for me it seems more light for my old computer, fraps just slows my game too much that it makes it unplayable complitely. i use dxtory as a virtual camera for my streaming program xsplit ... cool beans
Iv tried a few different capture softwares, none work as easy and well as fraps. You can see how my videos look on my youtube channel, http://www.youtube.com/notebookplayer, all of them were taken with fraps besides my tutorial videos.
Fraps comes out very clear and in an easy format to use in most all video editing software, I use Sony Vegas Pro 11 which is by far the best video editing software Iv come across.
This is incorrect. Compared to other options (streaming software like Xsplit), fraps has the lowest impact on performance, because it only compresses the footage by a tiny bit. The files wind up being HUGE, but the payoff is that it takes almost no toll on your CPU. I was able to run Company of Heroes at Ultra settings at 1680x1050 with a crappy Athlon X3 3.0ghz processor and get pretty solid 30 FPS the whole time. Here you can see the quality if you switch it to 1080p mode.
No YOU'RE incorrect. 30 FPS is pathetic by the way, I stay at a comfy 60FPS with the same exact Specs.
GO TRY SOMETHING ELSE like I did before you just auto-defend FRAPS. You don't know what you're talking about yet
I just tried DXtory, Fraps, and Playclaw. Fraps and Playclaw get about the same quality and FPS dip, but playclaw has some nasty skipping in it. Fraps is still the best quality capture (for editing purposes) I've used. DXtory murders my FPS no matter how I set it up.
Like Eyecel, I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio, and fraps works great inside of it. The only thing I dislike about fraps is how they cut up the files into 4 gb chunks. I'm sure that's one of the ways they get such good quality/performance, but it is annoying come editing time.

The latest version of fraps (3.5.0) mentions this in the update notes:
Major changes in this version:
Support for large AVI movie files (above 4 Gigabytes) on NTFS drives
Added option to split AVIs at 4 Gigabytes for legacy AVI 1.0 support
NEW SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR FRAPS 3.5: CPU with SSE2 (Pentium 4 & above), Windows XP or higher required
I'm using Open Broadcaster Software, mainly because it's free. You can set it up to record and save locally. Great compression, fairly easy setup, very little effect on game play ( i see no difference, personally)...then do editing in Cyberlink's PowerDirector 12.
OBS can easily do recording, however, with just a little fiddling (and a video on youtube or two) you can add live video overlays, or stream to the service of your choice, and a whole lot more. It's quite flexible.
Overwolf is pretty decent, but MSI Afterburner is far superior. Fraps videos are way too big to even bother with it and if you dont buy it you get crappy videos. A lot of people recommend MSI Afterburner and for a good reason. It is IMO the best from all the free ones.
Unless you have a fairly new Nvidia video card then you can use Nvidia Shadowplay. Or if you have one of the latest AMD video card the you can use the recorder from Raptr which i think its developed by the AMD guys with the Raptr guys (since Raptr is now called AMD gaming evolved or something like that) as a competitor to Nvidia shadowplay.
you dont need Nvidia card to use that, but yes its free and awesome.
Yup, it's a great utility for ATI(AMD) cards as well. I don't use its' video capture, but I do use its' screen capture.
I mainly use it to unlock my card and overclock, in addition to setting custom fan speeds in relation to temperature. Oh, and displaying all the info I need on my G13 LCD.
download overwolf, it's awesome just check it out. I use it for making videos, surf, chatt (fb,skype teamspeak) it also has other apps. Try it you will love it.
Have you ever heard about a screen recorder called Joyoshare VidiKit? It's my favorite tool. My sis and I often use it to record gameplay and then upload to YouTube. It is able to record videos in 4K or HD quality with no time limit. Maybe you could give it a shot.
If you're looking for the top software to record just the data and not play, that is MSI Afterburner.
If you want to record audio, you can make use of Fraps however, you should also remember that any recording program should use a second hard drive to record to and not the primary. The reason behind this is that RAW recording formats can slow down your hard drive purchase an entire chunk, and you'll be able to feel the effect in games. You can also apply northell.design. They help me a lot when playing GW2, WOW, and other games.

Afaik afterburner is by far superior to fraps, both performance and compression-wise.

I just d/l Afterburner and it works great! Very simple.
Edit: And it's free!
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

HOLY CRAP! Thanks for pointing this out. Fraps updates so infrequently I hadn't seen this yet. That's awesome
Hand camera wins xD
I would suggest Video Converter Pro - because based on my personal experience it is a good video converter.

IMHO, the best I've tried is https://www.xsplit.com/download
Just another option if anyone is still looking for something that works well.
