International Awareness in the industry? WTF

ZillenZillen Member Posts: 141

I'm so, so happy today, fellow forum comrades. I am Australian.

Over the last few months, I've been afraid - afraid that Guild Wars 2 would repeat the methods used by SWTOR in its' development of international availability. I was distraught and furious when Preorders first became available for that game, only to discover that not only were they NOT LETTING ME throw nearly $200 at them, but that the launch was intended to be smoother for other countries at my expense, and that they might region lock Oceania entirely.

A friend recently pointed me to the GW2 FAQ. He was happy about something, and I figured it out when I got there. At some point since I last perused it, Guild Wars 2's FAQ has been changed to specifically include mentions of Australia, New Zealand. THIS IS IMPORTANT.

By doing this simple bit of text editing, ArenaNet secures my buy, for one. They have shown that they are trustworthy in their design before, but this shows to me, and perhaps many others in my region, that they do care about us - they are including us in their target audience. The CE still may be ridiculously out of my price range, but I can sleep with joy in me knowing that for once, a company not only noted our crappily-networked section of the world and listed supporting retailers here.

I'm really sick of the whole "There's a massive fanbase for X", or "Y would be a WoW-killer if it just had a chance".

There is no massive conspiracy waiting in the MMO playerbase.

There are no "sleeper-agent fans" waiting to convert once the X or Y is unleashed on the world.
