Old news... move along.
Maybe some people haven't seen it yet?
Along with every other company, but can you blame them for wanting a piece of the pie?
He also said that WoW will only kill WoW in another sentence, I like the way people only pick out certain lines of info from interviews, then try and distort or discredit people for things they say or didnt say. At the end of the day it doesnt really matter to anyone here because they will do what they want to do regardless what anyone says, as players we are only interested in what the game has or hasn't got to offer.
Btw the way, this is a sure sign of a poorly run company when they quote WoW and wanting some of their action.
WoW is the "super casual" niche to the genre, and is NOT "The" genre. For those of you whom adore GW2 but despise WoW I'd be concerned that they start implementing things like in WoW that will ruin GW2 for you.

I'm not worried about this at ALL. Why? Because GW2 obviously was not developed to copy WoW. ArenaNet is smart enough to know that only WoW can do WoW. No one wants to play a copy of WoW. WoW already does it the best. What Anet did is make a game that abandons many of WoW's tried and true formulaic designs, such as the trinity and dedicated healing in combat, linear questing and the ! ? formula for picking up and turning in quests, parties and how people play together are more loosely formed in GW2, and many other things. Anet isn't trying to "beat WoW" by BEING WoW, they're trying to beat WoW by being DIFFERENT.
We'll see if they do it. But like Mike O'Brien said, only WoW will "kill" WoW. He's just looking to top them in a fight, not "kill" them. Time will tell. We'll need to look at both games again in maybe a year. It's a pretty lofty goal, imo.

I don't think the problem is about copying WOW, my biggest concern is that they casualize (is that a word?) the game too much, IMO that's the only way to reach that top spot. I mean look at it like this, what currently runnig MMO does what it does the best? IMO that would be EVE..Why? because they stick to a core vision and care nothing of achieving that level of success, as cliche as it is the saying dumbed down very much applies here. CCP have stayed far away from doing that to their game.

Agreed. But if anyone can do it, it's ANet.
GW2 is one of the last attempts for this genre to change the standard and if it fails, we'll have at least 5 more years of uninspired quest and raid centric WoW clones.
Great. Now you've made me paranoid. I certainly hope that GW2 doesn't get the traditional "dumbing down" treatment to make it more appealing to even MORE casual players. I think I would puke from being so emotionally upset by that. I watched that happen to my EQ2 over the years as it became more and more WoW-ized. It was so terribly sad. EQ2 is not at all the game it once was, but it did attract some WoW players finally, and....unfortunately.
I sincerely hope that ArenaNet is able to fulfill their dreams without compromising their vision.
