Hmm.. Well, I was on the fence about GW2, and after a less than satisfying sting in TOR, went there credit card in hand to pre-purchase. Then I saw they had disabled them. Well, I guess it's nice when companies make decisions like this easier by telling customers that they don't want their money.
Judging from GW2 first impressions in the forums, you may want to compare your experience to being a passenger that got refused aboard a plane that later crashed in flight.
If you're absolutely convinced you need to blow your money on this game, you'll get another chance at pre-ordering when they re-open subscriptions as part of the second phase of the ol' cash grab technique we're beginning to see as routine for many pre-fail titles.
Ya dunno what yall are talking about, game's friggin phenomenal. And it's not hiding any lag issues, or at least if they are they're not doing a good job of it. That's the only issue I have right now, the terrible frame rate when tons of people are on screen at once. It's to be expected from a beta, but something that definitely needs to be cleaned up before launch.
The tin foil hats are fine, dudes. Game speaks for itself, but do enjoy your lonely little corners. *goes back to GW2*

yeah not like SWTOR did this or anything. The number of keys were limited to ensure you would have a lag free experience, so we can hide the fact how laggy it will be on launch. Talk about admitting something.
ArenaNet have x numbers of servers that can handle y number of peeps. This is nothing new. Problem with GW2 is because it isn't sub based mmo the population is likely high at launch with queues/lag on servers, then as peole move away from the game as they complete the content the servers become lower population. It's why they don't have large numbers of servers as it can lead to very low population ones soon.
According to the post, the number of keys available was limited to ensure that participants would have a smooth, lag-free experience.
...or as the unoblivious individual might figure out, as a publiciity to stunt to gain greater attention for the game. Feel free to try that move with the 'hard copies' of the game where its still pretty obivious its done on purpose to gather more attention and make more aritcles like this, but really with a digital edition?
I call bullshit on this whole thing. Digital editions selling out would be like running out o0f "copies" of a web site. It is just impossible...
They stopped selling copies to try and have a smooth beta, i think they actually did it too late.
Beta is going well but the first hours were really bad.
And yet... sales are where they get money to buy servers. Doesn't compute.
It kinda does, it's not about number of servers is about having them properly setup and in time.
They actually didn't even limiting access.
Nope, it still makes no sense. Ever see a game shut down servers for maintenance? Last I checked, they usually bring them back up on the same exact day. That's how long it takes for these companies to get some new servers up and running, and last I checked, the game doesn't launch in the next day. So no, it's complete bullshit.

Lag issues are more then evident, they aren't trying to cover it up. It is all about not investing too much money in new servers, months before the release. New servers cost money + monthly bill for running them. They have more then enough servers to gather the information they need from beta feedback.
The only reason they have sold out is because of the beta, that's it. This game needs work. Do not buy it until after release or you will be regretting it. And if you wait till after release the price is going to drop, just like interest in this game will until they fix the problems people are having already.

Pays to know something about online games before you talk about them, but live and learn, right??
They put a cap on beta access til they smooth out more server stability and bugs so that they can later let more in once this is done.
Thats one of the reasons all online games do a beta in the first place and why they do limited closed betas. You have to work your way up to having 100k or more people on one server at a time and have few issues. Especially when they made the game from scratch and didn't just import it from Korea or somthing.
Are you people not paying attention? There still ARE copies of the Digital Deluxe available for purchase. Try Gamestop, or any other retailer that does digital downloads, they are selling keys with all the perks you get from the NCsoft store. Only difference is, that it isn't the first thing to pop up when you search "Buy Guild Wars 2" on Google, so while NCsoft is sold out of their allotment of Digital Deluxe keys, Gamestop still has at least some.

Please amend the title of this article to "ArenaNet sold out of GW2 digital editions"
The title is misleading as it is still possible to buy GW2 from other retailers and still get into beta as per ANets own facebook page

This. I think it would be naive to assume they would not take money if they could.

Yeah i can't figure out how one can run out of digital editions. It is a catch phrase just to make headlines i guess.
We are going to run into a serious GW2 shortage.
Buy now before it's too late.
You can still get CEs!
They did the same with swtor
