The 1 major thing that bothers me about GW2

PalladinPalladin Member UncommonPosts: 430

Zone loading.

WTF this isn't the late 90s early 2000s.

This game would have been far far better if it had one huge seemless zoneless world to explore (ala Fallen Earth)

I've already bought the game but I really am not sure I will be able to swallow this sour pill. Load screens in this day and age just piss me the ^%$# off.

Restrictive world regions break the game emersion big time.  What is restrictive? Running in any direction for less than 5 min and hitting a zone wall.

UO had a seemless world back in 97

I really hope the other aspects of the game that I do like will be enough to offset this major "flaw"

Things I do like:

Crafting system

Market system

PvP system

Dynamic event system

Combat skill system

Clan control system

There is alot in the game to like.

Its a good thing GW2 has no sub...if it did have a sub  I would not have pre-purchased it.

If you're looking for an immersive rpg online experience then, yes, that's a bummer, but I see gw2 more as a fun esport. Taken in that context it has loads of potential. It's just not the game I'm going to get my fantasy escape fix in.

Apparently you missed SWToR. Anyway, this topic has been discussed over and over.

Zones are pretty large and the world still feel seamless when you still need to travel across those portals. And they have zone based queue servers to balance the events and world bosses, so zoning is essential by design. period. if you really can not get used to that factor, game may not be your deal.

  • sk8chalifsk8chalif Member UncommonPosts: 666

Don`t bother me at all for me either,

1 loading by zone and u most likely have to lvl 1 to 17 first before get a loading screen, unless u do ur personal story, or teleport alot .

From lvl 1 to 25 i had 1 loading screen, excepted when i travail to WvW for some awesome PVp

I dunno where i read this but if its like GW1 we wont have any maintance during week or no downtime during patch either,

NO i tried TOR canceled my sub two torturous  weeks into the free "trial" month for this very reason zone laoding is old school crap and no game these days should release with it.

Na they are not large. YOu should take a look at Fallen Earth ...then you will know what LARGE really means. Even the instanced content in FE has no zone loading.

At one point in the 1st BWE I went something like 3 hours without going through 1 loading screen.  You really do not need to move from zone to zone so often especially considering you will get sidekicked down to face content.  Plus its fairly obvious that each zone in the game is massive and has a plethora of things to do and see so if you really dislike zoning as much as you say then its easy to just play in 1 zone for a while without repeating a whole lot of content.

Now for me the thing that irked me the most is not being able to use shift/ctrl/alt modifiers, I really hope that gets fixed because I would love to be able to use them for my utility skills and F keys.

Exactly why you shouldn't play. Don't play then.

I've tried researching Archage but right now the game seems to be a pipe dream. Very little info on it ...I avoid games with anime character types where you can't tell the male from the female toons.

Loading screens are the new MMO standard.

    EQ almost not loading.

    AC no loading

    Shadowbane no loading

    DAoC some loading.

    Vanilla WOW very little loading.

Afther that we when to instance loading at every turn!

    From GW2 Frequently Asked Questions;

Are there going to be loading screens? Is it a completely seamless world?

There are loading screens when you travel between waypoints within a zone (this is because the player's computer has to load the environment at once, rather than gradually as the player's character approaches the destination). Between some zones there are portals which will trigger a loading screen like those in Guild Wars. Aside from access to cities and outposts, portals are rare.

Are there still going to be instanced areas?

Yes, some character specific events related to the personal storyline are instanced. Dungeons, the organized team PvE, are also instanced.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Obviously I'd be happier if there weren't loading screens between zones.

But the zones are large, by the standards of such games. I honestly can't say that it caused me any particular grief while I was playing in beta.

It's really not that "sour", it's doesn't break immersion "big time", and it's not a "major flaw".

Come on guys, to whoever played GW2 BWE, you know you played the best MMO ever, dont loose yourself explaining to the rest, it doenst matter if the rest plays it :D we will ,  only the ones that played the beta weekend know how GW2 is insanly awsome.
