.. until we get a diving anim! :D Found this awesome jumping platform in Lion's Arch and just had to make a video :P

Awesome place, but we need to do something about the stiffness of a falling character, like a head dive animation ;) Screw balancing and bugs, this must be a priority lol.

FYI, there's an NPC there that gives you goggles. Wear them and you get some special animations for the dive. Still not as nice as I'd like, but you get to do flips.

I knew about the diving board, but I didn't know about the goggles, that is freaking awesome. Hopefully they add some swimsuit type town clothes!

I think a diving animation is fairly difficult to add into the game unless its a scripted jump that you don't control yourself.

Not a lot of games have a dive animation for free motion control..

Some of the later Tomb Raider games had it... was a crazy ass combination of buttons on the controller to make it work tho.

Aion online has it and is made by NCSoft same people that make Guild Wars 2 Anet are the people that maintain Guild Wars 1 and 2 but they work for NCsoft A Korean Gaming Company that I love for MMO's =)

NCSoft isn't MAKING Guild Wars 2.

Completely different company actually making the game, from the company who is responsible for Aion.

That said, I wish they'd add it too.  Pillows are a lot more comfortable with more fluff.

Ha! I'm just glad we can JUMP in GW2.

I couldn't even handle GW and not being able to jump. I don't have to jump all the time like a spastic, but I need the option.

  • GraeyGraey Member UncommonPosts: 281

what they really need to do is make the platform higher and then give us parachutes....make the diving platform wider and longer so multiple people can jump off at the same time.

that would be a great photo...

How do you walk, and why, in my infinite wisdom of GW2, have I not know this was a featured ability?... Can we sit in chairs now too? What else have I missed during the coma that I must've been in!?

I wish you could do emotes while falling down from distance height.

Glad you guys had fun on my map! I worked really hard on it. I take most of the credit for getting? diving in the game because I built that giant diving board that convinced folks to put in the script and animation support for dive moves. Hopefully we'll get some more in there soon.

Okay well how exactly does it work in Aion then?

I cant imagine the game automatically doing it.  Unless it can somehow tell you are over water I guess and falling at the same time.  I suppose an emote of some kind might work like /dive .

So how did they do it in Aion?

  • I love the high dive but its more of a belly flop platform.  I think you always land face first.

i dont' know how they did it in Aion but.

if they can check if your character is in water, they can check if your character is above water.  they can also check if your character is falling.  that is all very simple to do, programming-wise.

i'm no game developer or game programmer, but conditions of this variety would not be impossible to program well.

Arenanet or NCSoft for sure have the resources and ability to do such a thing.  not going to comment on whether it would be worthwhile.

There's basically two falling animation sets. The first is for "short" falls- less than 3 seconds or so. It's your standard MMo "aaaaahhhhh!" falling that GW2, WoW, and others use.

After that it moves you into doing a power dive. This was probably done because of the game's flight system, but I have to say it was one of the little touches that REALLY impressed me about Aion. I remember noticing that and going "Wow....wish other games did that".

Sadly, pretty sure it was the only time I ever said that about that game.

Asassin's Creed 2 did it perfectly, and in a very simple way. You jump wherever you want, and then press the jump button again (I believe) to start a head dive. Blending between 2 falling animations, not that hard to do :)

That's what I like about the game. It's simply something fun to experience with friends & guildmates, rather than work.
