So, if this is true, Guild Wars 2 will launch on June 28th. For those of you who have played in the beta weekend and the stress test, here's my question. In your opinoin, do you think the game will be ready for primetime by the end of June?

    No, no, no, no...nonononononono...NONONO...NO!!!!

If the release date is NOT ANNOUNCED BY ANET....IT.....IS......SPECULATION.

That said, while it is certainly plausible that the game could be ready by June, I think it will be ready by the end of July or August.

Could use more polish and I hope they thoroughly test out the new client which will not be as cpu bound as the current client, however...

It plays better than swtor does lol. It actually plays really well right imo. I want the game to go live extremely bad, but I can wait until it's ready and if that means another 6 months, I'll wait.

  • terrantterrant Member Posts: 1,683

    That was debunked like....months ago.

Even still is it ready for that date if it were real? Probably not. They'd need to fix the server issues (especially the overflow stuff) in my eyes.

I don't see it happening.  Maybe an extra month or two, but June is getting close and it's not ready.

  • kanezfankanezfan Member UncommonPosts: 482

And besides isn't TSW confirmed for June 19th or something? Why compete with another MMO on a launch. I say July 20something at the earliest. Wouldn't be surprised with August.

Yeah, when I saw that, my initial reaction was....uhh no. Not based on anything I've played but it just seems there would be more "beta weekends" before the game got released and that would barely be over a month away. But I had about 30 minutes of gameplay experience yesterday.... so I have no idea really about how ready the game actually is.

Agreed. I want nothing more than for GW2 to come out tomorrow! But I would wait for a whole year if it meant a well polished game.

  • I am pretty confident they could have all their major technical issues mostly in the bag by June 28th.  Login issues, most lag issues, garphics optimizations.

I am unsure of how much smoothing out of the user experience they want to do before release.  They already have a really impressive set of things that make the user's playtime very nice.  Things like sending crafting components to the bank, nice little graphs in the trading post, etc etc.

At the same time there are various detail oriented things they could spend alot of time on.  I have no real idea how they have prioritized things.

Perfect is the enemy of good.  But what's good and what is not-so-good can be very hard to tell.  And tends to change from person to person.

Personally if they did one more quality pass and fixed all their technical issues I would be fine with the release.  But i have no idea what they need to do to enable things like guesting.  If guesting is in the next BWE and it works fine I would say June 28th is fairly likely.

This actually is not the first "release" date gamespot  has "published"

I would rather the game to take loger and have a smooth launch then for Arenanet to push it out and it not be ready as every single other game has done in the past 10 years.

TSW feels a lot less finished to me than GW2 does.   I'll be surprised if it isn't pushed.  If not, then be ready for another AoC style failure potentially.

Well, it's another piece of possible evidence, but it could just as easily have been produced by the chain with a date of their own speculation. The only interesting thing is the cut off date for pre-purchasing the Collector's Edition, which makes sense in context with the release date.

With Arenanet already having pre-sold so many copies, it's just shown that traditional distribution methods are falling by the wayside. I know a fair portion of pre-purchases have been through retailers who will be shipping a box on release, but I'd think a majority have been made for Digital editions that will not have to be shipped to anyone. This may ease the distribution burden a bit and allow them to launch with as little as 3 weeks lead time between an announcement of a release date and the actual release, but no matter what, time is getting short for an announcement to occur for a late June release.

Let's say that if they don't announce a date in the next three weeks, late June will essentially be out the window and speculation will have to be renewed.

Ironically, in being careful to never give us information to help nail down their internal release target, in order to avoid disappointment and recriminations if they were to miss such a date, they just have created a series of let downs for fans who buy into believable dates that many seem to agree on, only to have those dates come and go. Arenanet can wash their hands of it all they want, but it's still a cycle of anticipation and let down that is only possible because they have been so completely obtuse on providing any guidance at all beyond "2012".

The main indication that these games are getting ready for release is when the game goes gold and heads for duplication / manufacturing.  Typically they have been launching about a month after this process starts with most games.   Even though most people are buying digital editions these days, we won't get to play it until early release which will be the weekend before boxes hit the shelves.

It's actual out of the question as NC-softs q1 Earnings Call released yesterday- claims it is targeted for later

if BW2 open this month then we all gonna have a clear idea if GW2 is ready to launch end of June or no.  IMO yap, 28 June is very possible.

    Amazon still says September 28.

Amazon is the bigger company and September sounds much more logical. Moreover, I would not release an MMO in the summer when everybody is on vacation at the beach.

Add onto this things like Kickstarter where I essentially pre-purchased a game 1.5 years before its release and things are certainly changing.

It doesn't matter whether they are a big company or small.  Neither have any idea and are guessing.

Anet has to be eating this up.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

I think the game is ready per what i have seen in the BETA weekend.  However, there were some areas and races closed for the BETA so we don't really know about those aspects.  I didn't run into any bugs during the weekend, and performance was great for me, even as an NA player on an EU server.  I had some slight slowdown in large WvWvW fights but it was slight enough that i could still fight as effectively as I needed to.    I hope they release soon.

Amazing how many are positive the game is ready for launch considering how little of it they have seen in the whole scope of things.

    Really is...

When we compare it to other games at the same stage in beta, yeah we are pretty confident it's doing well.

That's great. You guys should tell Anet it is ready to launch then. Glad to hear.

what stage of beta are you taking about?, The game is not even close to be ready and if they release the game now, it will fail. The performance issues are still there, and for a game with WvW or RvR thats is a gamebreaker. ¨the doorwars is still there¨ dont know if they have any plans to fix it, abilty delay, the problem with the animations, arrows through wall, is a long list to be honest. The game need more time.

Nobody's telling them to launch it now. I myself just said that they can take another 6 months if they feel that's what it needs.
