So, Blizzard releases 100% online all the time DRM in Diablo 3. Even for Singleplayer.
Most people defend it.
Ubisoft releases 100% online all the time DRM in their games. Even for Singleplayer.
Everyone hates on them
Next time Ubisoft releases their next DRM game, I'll remind everyone of how everyone defended Blizzard's exact same DRM.

Different systems - D3 is a client/server game built like that from the ground up, Unisoft just put an 'are you online' check ontop of a finished game.
the principle is the same though
Currently playing- SWG PreCU & GW 2
Have tried WoW, AoC, & Vanguard, SWG:NGE, GW, LOTRO & SWTOR
Best MMO: SWG
Worst MMO: SWTOR
Haha, can you imagine the slack a company like EA would have gotten for doing something like this? Oh well.
Eh? Most people haven't defended it. In fact most people I to talk to or hear from are disappointed with the always online feature. The general forums have been a shitstorm with constant requests for an offline mode.
Personally I don't care for it either. I have only gotten to play for a couple hours due to work, but I have had 8 hours or so of available time. The servers have been down for 6 of my available hours since release. On top of that i have not been able to play with my friends due to conflicting work schedules and the servers being down for most of the evening yesterday, when we had time to play together.
I deal with Steam offline mode all the time, it's not the greatest either. I realize things will get better once less people are logging in, however I still don't like it.
This DRM method sure sounds awful and lack wisdom, i still remember the DRM method on Spore when it came out, that was rather bad, and they got a mob of pitchforks and torches at them for it.
I personally didn't purchase Diablo 3, Path of Exile is a free to play MMO that ressembles Diablo 2 but with different aspects that will comes out in open beta fairly soon, so... a Fool in it's pocket, what do i choose? A doubious game that would costs me box price and give me only a few hours of enjoyment and an instability of gameplay even in single player mode, or a diablo-like game with more appealing game mechanics that is an actual MMO that won't costs me a dime to try and enjoy? I'll let you figure the obvious answer to this.
The blizzdrones are out in force tonight. Sure is rabid fanboy in here.
Defending DRM is like trying to defend eating shit.
I do not care how much you enjoy the taste of shit, or the fact that Blizzard shit onto your plate.
SHIT IS SHIT!
STOP EATING IT BLIZZDRONES!
Blizzard could knock on your door and take a dump right on your chest and their fans would defend them. Stop trying people they like being duped out of their money. Just be smart and go invest in ATVI and make money off of the idiots.
Humans have short memories so pointless waste of your time, they are programmed to defiy any kind of logic...

I dont play Diablo as singleplayer. It's a multiplayer game for me so I don't care.

Hah got kicked off and can't log back in again. Oh well, maybe this will be a short one.
I have put three hours in. I work full time and this is two nights in a row with downed servers. I did try to play release night/early morning that was no go. Got two hours last night before the servers went down for a couple hours. Just played about an hour.
I really enjoy the game however. The little bit I have played. I realize this is an insanely popular game, but I just feel like Blizzard could have done a better job with this. There was only really one major stress test, and it had problems too. Should have been more stress tests IMO.
D3 is more single player with multi player connections. Even your single player game can effect the multiplayer world because of the AH, competative rankings, and future arenas. Blizzard needs to make sure everyone is not cheating for those things to work. If the game was straight single player like Skyrim then yes it would be shitty, but for many D3 is competative and cooperative more than single player.
Played 4 hours today and one this morning....never been dropped and I have never found the servers down. The only thing I would say is the game has been out a day or so...servers being reset for various reasons, minor bugs being handled with log ins, etc. are all pretty standard for online games at the start.
I am 100% online all the time anyway. The DRM doesn't bother me.
I would totally put up with always on drm in Skyrim if it meant coop multiplayer being in the game. Hell yeah that would be sweet.

I know right, who isn't?
The game is fine as it is, I never once played either D1 or D2 offline, what's the point? Also all these people crying about connectivity less than 48 hours after a huge launch (with midnight lineups and everything) are just straight morons.
If D3 isn't doing it for you go play a lame cash shop POS clone, no one will stop you I promise.
How can I tell you this without being rude? But how self centered do you have to be to write like that? there is a large portion of the world without easy access to le interwebz. Or does that not matter as long as you have internet? And since you never played d1&2 offline, does that mean nobody else did either? Why would you write that? We're in 2012, and we take steps back as far as features is concerned? Region locked? Drm okay? In what universe is this progress and acceptable?
I did expect problems, and I think it's somewhat to be expected. Although activision blizzard is frigging huge, and it should be possible to do this better. Steam does it every day. But that's not really the point. It's just so god damn unnecessary to have these problems, they should not be there. It's just dumb, there is no real justification for it. Hearing people being happy with the ping is hilarious. Why would that even be an issue? It shouldn't, and my mind is blown everytime I read it, because I just can't understand why that should be something to be concerned over.
the ubisoft comparison is funny as heck, and hypocrisy at it's finest. What a god damn cesspool.
Hah I guess I am full of it then. I really could login from 9pm to 12am last night PST. I guess I really could log in the past hour, I just chose not to.
Never had your internet go down for a few days? It's nice to have a game (or movies for that matter) that plays off-line while you wait for the service tech to show up.....
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Well they're not invited to the D3 party I guess? Boo hoo move on...Blizzard doesn't owe you shit.
Few days? Not for a couple years. And in the event I do have to wait until the next day for a technician I can use my phone to connect. Even so, I am fortunate enough to play games for fun. No single game is all-important that I cannot switch to another game. Or, more likely, walk away from the computer and spend time with my kids or another hobby.
Not to say I wont support those that are negatively impacted by a DRM. But I also understand the need for DRMs. DRM is simply the company attempting to protect its own interests and revenue. So with that, I wont oppose a DRM for the sake that it is a DRM. That is just silliness.
Exactly.
Just one example from the official D3 forums (EU):
364 posts in this thread, titled: "So, Blizzard. Can we have offline single player now?"
http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/4008342094?page=1
I am honestly surprised that threads like that have not been locked. I guess I have to give kudos to the moderators for allowing people to voice their opinions.
I don't feel the need to "defend" it but I wouldn't let crappy DRM decide a purchase for me one way or another. If I need to be online to play a game I don't really care as I am always online, servers down and can't login, eh I'll play something else or watch some Netflix.
Ubisoft, Valve, Blizzard. Doesn't really matter who is doing it, I only really care about the actual game and how much fun I have playing it. I don't get the outcry against these systems, but people are entitled to their own opinon and can vote with their dollar.
The only DRM system that has bugged me in the past was Spore, because of the limited amount of installs you get, that side of things I can't get behind. Didn't stop me from buying it (regretted that for other reasons, man that game sucked), but it is a crappy way to try and combat piracy, especially when it was the most pirated game of the year in the end.
