This message came through on facebook. It says that something exciting is going to happen to the TSW graphic. Something much more nifty that the Beta DirectX9 will be launched with the game.. Can apparently test this version with NIVIDIA...?? If I understood it right.
– Funcom combines engineering forces with NVIDIA to break new ground for graphics in massively multiplayer online games –
Durham, N.C., USA – May 24, 2012 – Funcom, a world-leading independent developer of online games, is thrilled to announce that it is working closely with NVIDIA for Funcom’s upcoming modern-day massively multiplayer online game ‘The Secret World’.
Funcom’s and NVIDIA’s engineering teams have been working together to make ‘The Secret World’ the most graphically advanced massively multiplayer online game ever to launch on the PC platform. ‘The Secret World’ will feature several cutting-edge DirectX 11 features, such as ground and object tessellation, which makes flat textures appear three-dimensional, thus bringing ordinary objects and surfaces to extraordinarily detailed life. ‘The Secret World’ will also feature full support for NVIDIA 3D Vision® technology for further gaming immersion and increased performance for gamers running dual-GPU configurations utilizing NVIDIA SLI® technology.
NVIDIA will also be launching its online “GPU Analyzer” tool specifically for ‘The Secret World’, which will allow gamers to quickly test their gaming rigs and confirm they have the right hardware for the best possible gaming experience. Funcom and NVIDIA are collaborating on additional virtual events, such as an upcoming Beta Weekend that will potentially allow every registered NVIDIA customer to try out ‘The Secret World’ before launch. With promotion across the NVIDIA.com website, social media channels, newsletters, YouTube and more, Funcom is expecting coverage of the game to exceed more than 100 million impressions.
“We are truly excited to again be working with NVIDIA like we did with our previous title, ‘Age of Conan,’” says Funcom CTO Rui Casais. “By collaborating with NVIDIA engineers, we are making sure we get the absolute most out of our game engine in terms of performance and visual splendor, both of which are tremendously beneficial to anyone playing ‘The Secret World’ with NVIDIA GeForce® GPUs.”
‘The Secret World’ is developed by Funcom and co-published by EA Partners, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA), and is consistently mentioned as one of the most anticipated MMOs in development. Funcom has previously reported that over 1,000,000 gamers are registered for the ongoing beta test for ‘The Secret World’.

Not sure about it. I have no problems with DX11, but I would prefare if they focused on character animations. Characters run and jump in a very rigid and strange way. So they could improve this first, and they concentrate on DX11 and other stuff.
Dx11 already in the game... The article is about the partnership, and TSW being the most graphically advanced mmo ever.
I'd wager that the folks involved in the DX11 developement and implementation aren't involved in Animations.
Dx 11 is already in, been in for months.
OP change your title please.
it is strange to have DX11 support yet animations that feel like a a game made a decade ago... the full DX11 effects are pretty neat if anyone else saw them
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg
Animations are like art either you like then or you don't. I happen to like them. I have them #2 next to swtor.
i honestly don't mind them but I'm playing TERA right now and the animations in TERA really blow TSW out the water... but i like everything else in TSW more than i like in TERA... grrr so frustrating!

Yeah Tera is a different game. More of an fps than a mmo. They did a great job with their animations.
No they arn't. The most popular games have great animations. Animations are more like science, often times when a game has great animations the player won't even notice because gameplay is so good.
Like I said before there is something else TSW is missing besides animations for combat because killing stuff is so boring and detached.
Even when the sliders were maxed out the game doesn't look that modern, so I doubt DX 11 will fix that. I could see them putting "DX11 optimized" on the box and then waiting a year after launch to implement it.
i agree about the animations thing.. but the DX11 stuff is already implemented.

it doesn't matter how advanced the graphics are if the animations don't compliment them well.
The most popular games have great animations? What kind of statement is that? Here's a way to test that theory, take 20 TES fans, ask them what the best Elder scrolls game is.

If they can pull off in 3D what Batman: Arkham City does, then this is great news.
Graphics are science. TSW's graphics are superb. Fully optimized for 50v50v50 (minumum) warfare with full collision, and detailed enough to separate the pebbles on the ground.
Animation is art. Art is subjective. You may love RIFT's, and hate swtor's. It's personal taste, all things being equal. And yeah dx 11 has been in for a long time with tessellation.
Right now 3D Vision isn't great. Playable I think but when you go in you get an Nvidia: 'Unrecommended' notice.
Hopefully there will be a graphics upgrade before launch.
Batman was excellent. GW 2 is excellent as well.
My FPS friends play Skyrim, my non gamer friends play Skyrim, my brother who doesn't game much plays skyrim, and they play a lot of it. Didn't is sell 12 million copies? I would say that is the most popular. Used to a lot of games could get by with basics but even then animations hyped games, fallout 1, syndicate, diablo 1 the overhead thing made animations easier for back in the day RPGs.
There are examples of games with junk animations doing well, mass effect 1, but it would have done much better with animations and a lot of awesome RPGs never hit mainstream due to animations, Bloodlines Vampire for example. While shallow RPGs were getting played by everyone I know like Assassins creed. WoW may be cartoony but its animations are simple and well done, download the trial client and check them out in model viewer to see. Animations are more like good or bad or super duper awesome and fun.
I read about age of conan and DX10 optimized went on the box and took a year to make it in the game, an announcment this late in the game's development ;p Pretty sure DX 10 was in the game in age of conan beta but I used XP.
sry there is still a standard between good and bad animations. This is not about whether you like to eat rice or noodle.
you have seriously poor taste if u think tsw animation is awesome. rofl.
Personally sense we are talking about opinion, I think GW2's animations are bad. To fashy, and too much like WoW as far as mechanics. I prefer something not so in your face action film style. I like the way TSW captures the feel of holding a modern weapon. To me they are realistic. Shooting a gun is simple, I think TSW details that shooting very nicely.
Now am I right? You don't think so, and that's ok, but to call them bad like I did gw2's is just wrong. I prefer one to the other.
I happen to think they are fugly. I have them far behind Anarchy Online.
The animations are placeholders.. haven't that been said so many times.. I guess we'll see changes for the PvP weekend later in June. Mmmmm... 3 faction PvP

Now if we could get NVIDIA to give EVGA a swift kick in the arse to produce more GeForce GTX 690's, and maybe lower the price, we'd be set!
Keep believe that animations will dramatically change between now and launch all you want.
Most animations now are done , what you see is what you get at launch.
That's been shown on this and other boards , shall we say , from official forum that they dont let the general puclic see?
What you see now is for the most part what you get at launch.
And its fine for some to think they are ok , but your head is in the sand if you dont see the onslaught of "Love the quests/environment but hate the combat/and or antimations" remarks across most over board that talks about this game.
Say you dont care all you want , but the thing flops too hard and that cuts future development/additions dramatically.
The combat and animations will immediately turn off a major group of potential customers.
I think it was really a development choice. Since players aren't locked into animations they had to untether the torst and legs to work seperately. This was bound to seem wonky. I expect later that they could introduce new ones.
Played - M59, EQOA, EQ, EQ2, PS, SWG[Favorite], DAoC, UO, RS, MXO, CoH/CoV, TR, FFXI, FoM, WoW, Eve, Rift, SWTOR, TSW.
Playing - PS2, AoW, GW2
The problem is this.....
You can use DX11 libraries and the tech will be there, but the developer still has to not only utilize it but also make the textures/shaders/models/meshes to compliment it.For example you slap Wow into a DX11 game engine it would mean NOTHING,the game would still look the same unless the developer put in the added effort to make it DX11 worthy.Actually i doubt it would even work as DX11 libraries are not backwards compatible with Dx9 and prior.
Here an Nvidia tech video showing basically the identical thing Funcom is talking about.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
wow really? i feel the exact opposite and really my main issues with the feel of combat to begin with.. shooting a gun in this game is portrayed horribly.. Pistols have locked straight arms half the time, actually shooting has no weight to it. I can point blank a shotgun into a zombies face and it doesn't even knock it back unless it kills it.. There is no real kickback to the shotgun or pistols and minor kick to the assault rifle.. overall I really think it's one of the biggest let downs as far as combat imho
