Hey Im a human male but I now want to be called Loretta as a human female though I have no working female genitalia. It is my right as a human to change what I am at a whim.
Oh look a potatoe is an apple of the earth!
It is not F2P it is an unlimited trial to level 15. F2P my ass, I hate swtor spin.
F2P involes a change of method and structure to give players content at paid for piece meal components, sometimes with an option of an all in sub fee that provides currency bonuses. Until they have that in place they have no right to use the F2P title, queue unlimited trial to 15 thats what it is.
Aion 3.0 would like to have a word with you. It *is* F2P and they don't gouge you piecemeal for content like Turbine does, or AoC, or EQ2.... all the bastard stepchilds of a horrible F2P moneygrab.
I agree with you though, that this isn't F2P just like RIFTs and WoWs free play until 20 isn't F2P. They're just like you said, open trials.
I described one method of F2P and yes Aion has truly adopted its own F2P model. I didnt want to get too into details just described a basic structure to show an example and that this really SWTOR F2P just a marketing strategy. Good luck to them its all they are good at EA and Co.

A free trial won't save this pile of poop. I can't wait to see what new lows EA will stoop to in order to try and get people to play this horrible failure of a game.

I will play no more MMORPGs until somethign good comes out!
During EA's press conference at the pre-opening festivities for E3, BioWare announced that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be ripping a page out of many other MMOs' playbooks: Starting in July, SWTOR will be F2P through level 15.
The team also noted that new warzones, high level content, new companions, and more will be coming throughout the balance of 2012.
Which is still a far stretch from going completely F2P!
Just saying that before all the SWTOR haters come and say "told ya so, SWTOR is dying and will be going F2P soon!"
Level 15 can be easily reached on a free weekend, so it's really just to tempt the more casual gamers... though I wonder how much more casual you need to be to take more than 2 days for lvl15?
Or maybe they want to breed a low lvl PvP crowd? hm...
Or it's all a numbers game to them... *shrug*
It's actually closer than you think. This is not a plan, this is a reaction. IN six months they have made a 360 from their original game plan.
No doubt this free trial F2P is them testing the F2P system? If it proves popular, might convert the whole game to F2P? That would be sweet.
It would be in their best interest. What they are undoubtedly going to see is the same surge that begat their initial optimism over the presence of their game; those who don't know any better will be enthralled by the 1-15 storyline, will sub to continue it, then get to cap, get bored, and be in the same boat as everyone.
In about 2-3 months, it's going to be deja vu.

With new games on the horizon it will only get worse, not better. It's a shame, they had such a wonderful licensing product to work with and made it not a whole lot of fun to play in the long run.

I have a hard time to imagine that works for SWTOR. Other games were years old with tons of content amassed over time when they went F2P, and with what are they going to get money? What would they add to an item shop? I just don't see how that would work.

"Heard about the guy who fell off a skyscraper? On his way down past each floor, he kept saying to reassure himself: So far so good... so far so good... so far so good. . . . . How you fall doesn't matter. It's how you land!"
Good-night, sweet SWTOR; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

hmmmm, bought the game + 2 60day timecards, yet to install it however (decided i would wait untill my current subscription ran out on my current game firstly).

I'm willing to bet none of you ever played Warhammer Online, otherwise you'd know this change does not actually mean they'll be going F2P with Star Wars Online
in fact, I can pretty much bet you it will not be going f2p for probably 2 maybe even 3 years. If it isn't during that time period, don't count on it ever going f2p
Welcome Gama Sutra opinion colluminist. This is your first day of statistics class. If you only learn one thing... just one thing in this class, I want you to take away this.

My question would be, what is wrong with you that you played the game enough to level up "several characters" when it was so awful?

To be fair, its not SWTOR spin, its the MMO genre spin. Everyone calls it F2P even though it isnt. WoW and Rift both call their limited level trials 'free to play' in advertising, even though that is blatantly false.

so you are paying for the trial or do people not actual play any of the game at all?

I'm sure they'll could thoes free accounts as subscribers as well in a continued effort of padding the numbers.

f2p all the way. I said it when it was released.
Some people will never learn.
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
F2p until level 15 is pointless. Takes only a few hours of playing to get to 15.. Just make the whole game f2p already!
It's actually closer than you think. This is not a plan, this is a reaction. IN six months they have made a 360 from their original game plan.
The sub model is just not worth the investment.
I can't say anything about SWTOR anymore. It would feel like kicking someone who is already down on the floor, and I don't do that.
... completely unrelated

This was inevitable, they have got the majority of box sales they are going to get, they need something to entice the hessitant.

High level folk aren't staying because there is nothing to do and no one to play with. How does this address that?
hmmmm, bought the game + 2 60day timecards, yet to install it however (decided i would wait untill my current subscription ran out on my current game firstly).
Well at least I'll get the chance to level up more characters from the free weekends if I ever want a change of pace game.
