C'mon, those are the strongest 5 reasons to keep playing. The game leaves a taste so sour that you don't want to taste it again and that's coming from someone who followed the game since it was a mere rumour.

It has in fact damaged their reputation that much that when they ever get around to making a Mass Effect MMO, they will find it will be overshadowed by the failure of SWTOR and will lose possible subscriptions due to that fact.

the IP is one of the game’s most attractive features

Its the games ONLY attractive feature.

If this game was called Star Battles: The Ancient Federation it wouldnt have done 10% as well as it initially did

The game as a whole is mundane and onomatopoeic and doesnt stand on its own.

Star Wars is THE selling point.

    Tried: EQ2 - AC - EU - HZ - TR - MxO - TTO - WURM - SL - VG:SoH - PotBS - PS - AoC - WAR - DDO - SWTOR
    Played: UO - EQ1 - AO - DAoC - NC - CoH/CoV - SWG - WoW - EVE - AA - LotRO - DFO - STO - FE - MO - RIFT
    Playing: Skyrim

    This article... wow.

Listen, I was a rabidfanboy since announcement.  I was pre-ordered CE day 1.  I was in game for early access group day 1.  (the second group if I recall)

This game completely... wow.  You know how you felt when you were told certain things didn't exist that you believe in for your WHOLE LIFE?  Take that feeling, combine it with a nice hard kick in the nuts, while ALSO sniffing three week old fish.

That's how I feel about this game now.

Only two things can get me back

    1) No sub fee

    2) Xwing vs. Tie Fighter style massive space battels/mission with capital ships

All those reasons are done so bad in TOR, it's the main reason i stopped playing months ago and i consider myself a huge SW geek. If the new Star Wars 1313 has any type of coop play there will be no difference between that and TOR, except 1313 looks a billion times better and actually looks like SW and will be advertised for what it really is. A SP Star Wars action game with coop. Something Bioware tried to fool the public with but failed miserably when they put the words MMORPG on the box and what was inside was ony a SPRPG with coop.

I'm glad to see that atleast mmo players are finally getting smart and living by the, fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on you motto. If you're gonna make a mmorpg, then be honest with the public and actually make a mmorpg. TOR is things done so wrong, by even mentioning it in the same breath with mmorpg is a travesty and could be actually labeled as false advertisement.

Lololo The mods are baiting us. I guess it generates hype though. For MMOrpg.com anyway. Im still waiting for GW2 though. And the new EndofNations looks interesting to pass the time.

If they setup SWTOR like GW2. You buy the box and own the game. That wouldnt be so bad, but EA/Bioware are greedy. Doubt they would do that.

    It’s Star Wars!

Wooh! That hugging of a brand name gets tiring quickly. As much of a fanboy people are for a franchise it doesn't last all that long when something is lack luster as a game. Considering I'm not one to fall to this either, this is a pretty bland point but one that does at least have some validity to some people.

Free Transfers & Permanent Free Trials are Coming!

Hurray, features available in plenty of other games (Rift comes to mind with free transfers). Honestly the transferes only help to act as an illusion of popularity by letting people shift around. It can make it seem like a server is popular while about 20 others are dead. This features can have some harsh repercussions which Rift has seen itself. Free trial... well... name a big name MMO Without this. Its pretty hard to name one. Its done a lot now with the 'free till XX' motto.

    Playing With Others

Wow, this sold me on this. Playing with others? Wow I'd never get to this except on EVERY OTHER MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online if you forgot) and many simply Online games. Might as well just say "Its a game" and use that as a valid point for playing it cause it would be funny.

    PvP is Fun*

Opinion based... Opinion based... Opinion based. All I can say is this is a bad point to make as it has 0 validity in actually judging it. Someone could literally go about saying "cleaning my skin with a sander feels good" and hey, it could for them, but a large majority would likely protest this. Personally I found the PvP in this game far from fun and being on the side of one of the most bland experienced. Then again, its an opinion so guess what, I can't really try using that as a valid point as to why NOT to play.

    Expanding Your Legacy

Well now, something I can actually consider a 'good' point as to why to play. The Legacy system can be an interesting way to keep players entertained with a game. The problem to me however is that the system itself doesn't really stand to much ground.  Even in the short paragraph you state some short comings to this which is to be expected (nothing is perfect) but it just hasn't go all that much sounding to be going for it. Its again something you can bring up but in terms of how great it is, it stands to a persons own opinion.

    Total:

    Solid Reasons Given: 1

Fanboy Reasons Given: 1 (If your a fan of a series you will like it)

Generic MMO Reasons Found on Practically every MMO on market Already: 2

Highly Opinioned and Controversal Point (aka shouldnt be considered a valid reason): 1

In short, looks more like there was struggling in even getting to the 5 reasons for the list. Outside legacy there really isn't that over half the points aren't very good and only 1 holds some ground being able to neglect the fanboy 'I love the series' kind of judgement that can blind anyone (yes just like me to diablo).

I too felt as if I were being trolled by the staff. Then again it's not like it's the first time i've seen them violate their own rules :|. I'd report the writer of that article if I didn't already know i'd be temp-banned, again, for "trolling" :/.

At the end of the day SWTOR isn't something MMORPG.com is going to let go so easily it seems.

    QFT.

And "Playing with others" as a reason to stay? LOL that's like saying a good reason to get a car is because it has wheels. It's an MMO and should have other people to play with as a standard feature you don't have to make a statement about!

    1. Its not really Star Wars, its nothing more then a WoW clone in space.

    2. Engame was horrible and way too easy.

    3. PvP was so bad that Hello Kitty would do better if it had pvp.

    4. The community is far worse then WoW's.

    5. Biofail has no idea what to do with this game.

In a world of sharp knives, you would be a spoon.

MMORPG.com should just stop featuring this game.  That's how bad it is right now.  It's not even worthy of being called an MMO.

    "Playing with others?!"

    In an MMO?!?! No wai!!!!!

I really wanted this game to be a success, but it's not very good. The worlds are empty, the crafting is simple and boring, the graphics are too cartoony, the MMO features are crude and show bioware's lack of MMO experience, the high-level equipment looks dumb, the PvP is not compelling, the talking-heads voice-over quest givers gets feature gets old very fast, there's nothing new in terms of game play - just a weak WoW clone, and it's attached to EA, a company recently voted the worst company. I don't know who would 'enjoy' this game - maybe if you like gargling large shards of broken glass, you might have an affinity for SWTOR. Any questions?
  • RefMinorRefMinor Member UncommonPosts: 3,452
Yes, the PvP is studied by others throughout the genre, unfortunately it's so they don't screw it up on a similar scale.

I really wanted this game to fail, and it did!  I'm excited for the future now that SWTOR has sent a message to video game developers to stop cloning WoW and try some interesting things instead!   Those 5 reasons are BS, game is dead and there is only 1 reason to play: to donate to EA.

"It's Star Wars!" isn't really a good reason to play a game. That's like saying you should play the horrible Star Wars Kinect game because it's Star Wars. Sure the Rancor minigame might be pretty fun, but the rest of it is horrible.

The PvP and playing with others points you can find in well...any other game. And the PvP is still in a shitty state. I'd be surprised if ranked BG's make it into 1.3, and if they do, if they are anything other than a complete joke. Playing with others? In a game that focuses so much on you as an individual and less on your interaction with others? Again, there are games that do a FAR better job of facilitating and promoting easy group play than SWTOR. The LFG feature will help, but there is no reason a game of that size (with that budget) shouldn't have had a system in place to make grouping for dungeons easier.

I'm not saying there aren't reasons to play, because there totally are. You hit the legacy system (which some people love, I don't care for it but that's personal opinion), there's the story offering, companions are awesome, and there are a few other features as well. This is coming from a guy who doesn't even play it btw.

If you're going to make a list of reasons to play a MMO, pick the best features the game has (story for example) or the things it does that other MMO's don't do for the most part (legacy system, companions ect.), not things that it does only moderately well or not well at all : /

  • AtheenahAtheenah Member Posts: 58

Why would i need FIVE reasons to keep playing? One would be enough, and even that i cant find.

  • erictlewiserictlewis Member UncommonPosts: 3,022

Wow OMG that is the 5 reasons why I don't play.   Free transfers  yes for selected servers, we have no idea of when this is gong to happen.

PVP fun?,  only when you get a war zone to pop

Playing with others, hello my serves is a ghost town.

As I type this, there are 56 previous replies to this thread.  The only two that aren't clearly negative are "I'm looking forward to the free trial" (reply #12) and "it was fun for a while but then I quit" (reply #9).  That says quite a bit by itself, don't you think?

Thats only your point of view, is still the most populated and successful MMO post wow and it keep growing, live with it. But agree MMORPG.com should stop making reviews about swtor, this site is full of haters who know nothing about the game, and just want to see tor  fail. For the last 6 months we have read the hate towards swtor in this site from the community 24/7, gw2 fanboys, sanbox lovers, and people who just dont like the game but they keep trying to convince everyone that the game is just bad. Dear haters, you are a vocal minority, swtor is alive, they have an insane amount of content for the following months and an exp in the 1st year, and even now when most of the servers are light, they keep selling more copies per week than any other p2p MMO in the market, all these ¨swtor is doomed¨, ¨the game is drying¨ etc etc and etc posts and comments will vanish once again  with the free transfers and the 1.3 update, when we will find that actually people is back  to the game, why? because the people who is actually playing the game know what everyone want and is waiting, and all of that is coming pretty soon. At the end haters gonna hate, and even when they know deep in their souls how wrong they are, the hate will be around here.

  • AnubisanAnubisan Member UncommonPosts: 1,798

Unlike most people around here, I actually enjoyed SWTOR. I am not currently subbed though...

I will return once they have merged servers/allowed transfers and have added the LFG tool. I enjoyed playing the game a lot, but eventually it got to be EXTREMELY difficult to find groups for flashpoints on my server. This problem needs to be fixed yesterday and I have to say I am somewhat surprised they haven't done something about it already. It should have been priority #1.
