Actual mmorpg developers think that we want console games in a massive multiplayer setting, they think that we are happy being heavily instanced and running forever behind a carrot on a stick called tierX. They think we are happy with no immersion and easy mmorpgs with stupid casualized pvp inside a battleground.
Maybe its our fault, we give to some of them lots of money for that style but it was only because you left us, your jewel game graphics were a bit old you know, we are talking about VIDEOgames.
So please, come back to save us, to save our passion for mmorpgs before all console kids make the whole industry think that we all want streetfigther arcades in a massive multiplayer setting.
Come back and show the industry why you are the king of mmorpgs, why the feelings your Ultima Online caused were unforgetable for all the people who played it. Teach them to do a seamless world, with serious death penalties, full loot, housing, ships, non instanced dungeons, ffapvp, so they will learn that pve becomes incredibly better in that setting because the risk of other players actually interacting in your pve experience.
Please Richard come back, we need you !
ANSWERS :
To the "nostalgic googles..." : I played EQ at the same time that UO and a still miss UO, not EQ, so no, im not nostalgic.
To the "hey proo I have not many hours to play a game, I have a life" : So get on with your life, dont play our games if you dont have the time required to play it correctly, you have plenty of easy games, go play them.
To the "Hey look another sanbox lover, you guys are a niche" : Ok fine, a niche of millions, a big company will be happy taking our money, we need a AAA sanbox and no, its not archeage I guess.
But, but, but he attacked me when I was low life!

Mean but true, add to that UO2 and his current project and it is clear that the man has about as much care for the traditional MMORPG game as i have for pickeld herring (and that is very little)
You will have better luck turning to the indie scene (or heck,, maybe even staring your own studio)

Ultima Online
And because that I pray him to go back home, to stop his "travels"...

What if the PvP game you feel so nostalgic about was not actually the intended outcome of the design, but rather was looked back upon as a degerate breakdown of the virtual world he originally intended?
I think RG aka Lord British has some really good ideas, but some people don't take the time to really understand them. His idea to make a MMO a living world, as it was in Ultima Online. I think he is a great man, and Tabula Rasa was not so much really made by him, but they more took his name to catch people.
I SO wish he would make new Ultima single player RPGs, too. Sigh, I miss Britannia and my old comrades, Iolo, Shamino and Dupre.

No Mr Garriot.
Please stay in whatever hole you've crawled into and don't come out.
Good riddance.
Please let him stay where he is. The mmo genre is bad enough as it is, adding him would just make it worse.
Grim Dawn, the next great action rpg!

Richard Garriot is dead.

Sure, Cujo, but what's Richard Garriot's track record since UO? UO was 1998-ish time frame. Almost 15 years ago. Tabula Rasa was his last prolific involvement with MMORPGs & RPGs. I will never fault Garriott for his past, overall accomplishments up to UO, and what he did for RPGs and MMORPGs in general. But let me be blunt though:
Lord British has been gone for more than 10 years now. He died with the 1990s.
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Recent interview with Richard Garriott. He makes a few statements I really agree with. Time will tell what he produces.
Garriot is a visionary. He has FANTASTIC ideas. Problem is, left to his own devices he's terrible at carrying them out.
I'd be curious to know what kind of things those who bash Richard Garriot have achieved in their life. During that time, Richard laughs at you from the space station or any other place his success allowed him to go.
I'd love an UO2 made by Garriot, in the spirit of UO1 but with modern technology, and without the influence of EA too. Not likely to happen, specially the last part, but one can dream...

You'll never know because I won't tell you.
I wouldn't say I bash him. I'm jsut saying he needs a good development team and a little grounding to make his ideas work out, or what you get is Tabula Rasa.
UO2...meh. On paper awesome idea. In practice, it would either be an utter gankfest that punished new players for daring to come in, or it wouldn't be UO.
That's pretty much the mentality that made most sandbox MMORPGs made since UO utterly fail or stay niche games.
A sandbox MMORPG doesn't have to have FFA PvP, and Trammel actually saved UO back then. The day a decent developer (and not a small indie company making a crap game) understands that, we will have a good mainstream sandbox MMORPG.

Screw that. I want him to start making single player RPGs again. The genre is rapidly decaying, and a new series with the depth and complexity of Ultimas IV-VII would be fantastic.
This, you whine about how current games are crap blah blah, and yet you want the guy that made a failed mmoshooter to make more mmos.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
Op if u want originality and a game developed by devs who played all those games, and are now making a game for gamers then if u have not checked out The Repopulation, check it out as it will have a Tabula Rasa vibe mixed with that sandbox element we crave for.
Who knows we may have found the next Garriot with JC Smith, and the talented team at Above and Beyond and so far the Kickstarter is showing the public are craveing for a game like this.
It does seem like a good time for UO2..... UO is still alive and kicking in its 15th year....If that doesn't tell RG something about what he did, then there's not much more we can add.....Even today, there isn't anything out like it......
No, we don't. The guy hasn't had a good idea in years. He needs to stay retired before he tarnishes what's left of his legacy.
Why you gotta go bashing on pickled herring!
