When ANet announces the release date the country is going to shut down from all of the "sick" days that will be taken.

Aren't those gems cash shop, real money items?  If so why would anyone pay for a server transfer during beta events?

Anet gives you 2000 free gems during each BWE and not stress test

Because people get free gems for the beta, and you can buy them using gold in the beta as well.

I hope they have a plan post-launch.  I seriously doubt they will retain the intial customers several months from launch.  Hopefully they don't end up like Swtor with empty servers after a massive dip in players.

Any word on new EU servers?

Cant figure if there are any new ones on the list and need to go to the office, no time to compare them with the old list.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Bauer's Pass is inspired by Tirzah Bauer, one of the environmental designer of GW2. As you can see, there are other developer inspired server names in that list like O'Brien's refuge from Mike O'Brien, one of the founders of Arenanet

Actually, I'm fully expecting that there will be twice as many accounts with in six months than there were at launch, so I don't think this will be an issue.

As is, GW2 is using overflow servers to keep populations in individual zones from being too overcrowded. If server play hours drop over time, as people settle into more casual game play schedules, there will just be fewer and fewer overflows until maybe there won't be a need for any more overflow servers. So, there is a built in capability for the server to "contract", by concentrating a higher and higer percentage of players in fewer and fewer overflow servers.

If that still weren't enough, the game has a Guest feature that allows you to do PvE content on a server other than your home server. So, a year from launch, if the starter zones are feeling a little sparse, the community can just select certain servers for people to play the lower level zones together on and people can just travel to those servers using the free Guesting feature.

So, actually, they have thought about it and even if the game doesn't grow accounts in the way I predict, the game already has mechanisms for dealing with changes in population density.

What about WvW though?  Are players screwed with their Home server, if say, 6 months from launch, the server population dips too low to be competitive?  Guesting isn't a solution either, since it will require a friend on another server (the last i've read about it).

I'm not saying that GW2 will fail, and that there will be "ghost town" servers, but it could happen, like it has in past MMO's.  Hopefully, A-net can assure players that if it does happen, they will offer them free transfers, since it wouldn't be the player's fault for choosing a launch server, that might end up with a population too low to enjoy group content.

Anyway, i'm just projecting into the future, and trying to be realistic about the outcome, and i'm sure A-Net does have a plan. I would just like to know their plans on merges and transfers if they are needed. lol.

    OK... I'll bite...

Pretend I pay $60 to play this game and think it a turd... and give up on it for 6 months... but then try it again in 6 months... how much does it cost me to try it again? $0.00 Nothing, ZERO, NADA, ZILCH

The only thing that can kill this game is ANet, and they're not complete MMO noobs. This isn't their first MMO (granted GW1 wasn't a "real" MMO).

If ANet wants to keep cashing in on a cash shop then they need to keep it real and keep us all happy, not just the top 10% who might be willing to pay to win... They've got every reason to keep us all buying cash shop items and expansions.

If they do nothing but offer "fulff" in the cash shop and let us have at what they've created then people will be enteretained for at least a year to come! We've seen all of 5-10% of the game in beta... and it's all felt rushed, hurried, paniced... when we're allowed to take our time after release, the PvE, WvW and sPvP will last months... this game easily has a year's worth of content in it.. and that's playing like a hardcore nerd who lives in his/her mom's basement.

I went into BWE1 expecting to experience a large portion of what they offered and left feeling as if I had barely made it past the character creation screen. There's so much content packed into GW2 it is mind blowing. The zones are absolutely packed with content from end to end, from the starter zones to what they've allowed us to see (sub 30 zones)...and the sPvP and WvW stand on their own.

What more can we ask from a game company for $60.00???

Even if the game is awful, which it isn't, it's still a better deal than anything else out there and so will easily have a large following even under the worst possible circumstances.

with free quest pass to other servers- finding someone to play with in PvE is going to be alot more easy.

And for WvW - have anyone actual thought about that they can actual take two low population servers and allow to be on same side in WvW so they can actual just let create a 2v2v2 server battle if they want or a 2v1v1 if numbers fit better that way. And it will work. That way they don't have to merge servers , and then they can keep servers ready for when ekspansions come out, and players come back !

Their system is actual so flexible that they have alot of options.

oh yeah that's quite possible too, the first thought that came to my mind was lore, and
Inquisitor Bauer was an unforgettable character in War in Kryta

Not sure if serious or joking. Will take choice number 2, seems most likely. Good one.

All non DE / FR ,servers will be english language ones.

Unless you're looking for a server that many UK based guilds choosed to be their server.

Still even on that servers you will have many non-UK people. As most players are not in any guilds and many that are are in international not national guilds.

Well I cannot help you with that one, surely there are topics about this though somewhere on inet. Would look on forums of Webpages specifically made only for GW2 or on some blogs maybe. Not sure.

Almost all servers were full (if not all) during the last Beta event.

There was a bug that made US servers appear as empty on those with EU home servers and EU servers appeared empty on those on US servers. I tried playing on both EU and US servers and all servers were full.

Although the risk is always there I don't expect this to happen, there's just too many good things about this game that everybody I talked to that experienced the BWE unanimously agreed on, including those that disliked GW1 and hadn't done much research on the game at all so couldn't be classified as fans yet.

An important difference is also that Anet actually listens to their fanbase, as opposed to BW who didn't change much for the better based on feedback in the real beta testing period and even worse past launch. Just look at which changes Anet already implemented in this short period of time between BWE1 and BWE2. Every major suggestion and/or complaint I heard in BWE1 has already been addressed or is anounced they're working on.

Then there's also the payment model which makes it a lot easier to put the game aside for weeks/months and then just start playing again without having to worry if it's worth your precious $$

Finally, I have full confidence that they'll continue to provide changes and / or new content relatively frequently past launch. Xpacks and/or other types of purchasable new content is a major source of income in this business model. GW1 wasn't a realy MMORPG but is a good example of the lot of new extensive new content they added in relatively short timeframe.

As fenistil said, it's fairly safe to assume that unless specified otherwise (with [DE] or [FR]) the vast majority of people on a server will be using English as their language - some better than others it has to be said.

Sadly, you can usually easily identify the people who don't have English as a first language, they're the ones you can understand...

Because people get free gems for the beta, and you can buy them using gold in the beta as well.

Also, as mentioned in last nights 'Ask Me Anything' ( about 26 pages down as they answered a ton of our questions: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Tlb-x49kVhvGw2DyGAnBfgj0_8dDGfnzbEPsY10rdvA/preview?pli=1&sle=true), when asked they replied that there will also be a free transfer period at the start of this beta weekend event to help people meet up with friends, and then after that they'll test the normal system for the rest of the weekend.

So between the free gems they're offering and a free transfer period, no one should have issues getting where they want to be.

It's worth a read if you're interested in GW2, they were a lot more open than I was expecting.
