THis is my issue. If i wanted to I should have the option to work on my character and progress with drops i found. Even if i have to replay acts of content a hundred times. Its not possible atm.
Ok I see ... I had thought that Inferno was for level capped characters, and I guess I had assumed that all drops would be level 60 and that level 60 drops are level 60 drops. But if I understand you correctly, you are saying that in Inferno, there is Act 1 Level 60 gear, Act 2 Level 60 gear, etc., and that a character in the best possible Act 1 Level 60 gear will get no where in Act 2 ...
That does sound fundamentally broken ... I wonder how their internal testing teams missed it considering they didn't have access to the AH.
Well according to blizzard they tested Inferno. Once everyone was happy with the difficulty blizzard then doubled it.
This is why gear drops make no freaking sense. IN inferno act 1 you see a lot ofsub level 60 gear, level 52, 54 and 56 drops and during the last half you see level 60 gear that you should have seen in Act 3 Hell mode when you hit 60 for the first time.
I have too agree, the first difficulties are pretty easy, but when you get too Inferno it feels like you can't keep up with elite mobs.
I made it to Act 2 and just keep face palming because the mobs just rape me and I can't seem to get any gear to stop it from happening. I finally broke down and farmed non elites for days to get enough gold to buy new items from the AH.
I don't think Blizzard did it intentionally but it is broken.
Yes, Blizzard did it intentionally. Blizzard wants people to use the AH and then then the RMAH. They make money from it.
well at least we know tinfoil hats still drop
Really? you think Blizzard designing the game for their own financial benefit is a conspiracy theory?
Originally posted by Z3R01 In an action Rpg you clear dungeons, waves and waves of enemies for the chance for loot to drop to strengthen your character.Usually you would need to sink a bit of time into the game to farm for gear upgrades to clear the content.IN passed games it was always possible to play solo or in a group, work through the game at your own pace and finally finish the content. In Diablo 3 it is impossible to clear content without buying other players drops that were found one to three acts ahead of you.In Diablo 2, you could progress completely on your own, it was a grind but the gear you recieved was good enough to clear content. Lets say you have a character in Inferno difficulty act 1. This character can farm all day, everyday and never, ever get the correct gear to do act 2... This is a broken system. This turns the game into a gold farming game and forces players to use a trading system/AH (something that should be optional btw) just to progress in content. I know many people have no problem with this. They shut up, farm the millions of gold and buy gear that they shouldnt have seen until Act 3 or 4. THe problem is this takes away from one of the best aspects of a A-Rpg, the loot finding!!!! If you're only playing to see your gold value go up you're missing out on the what makes this genre great. TLDR Version: You can't find the gear to progress in the game so Diablo 3 is broken.
not sure if this has been mentioned yet but these issues are being fixed (somewhat) soon. the drop rate will be less in act 1 as it is in the higher acts but the best loot will drop in act 1 so you can farm the best loot.
also, the mobs in act 2 and beyond are getting their HP and damage "spikiness" nerfed. i agree right now its near impossible going from act 1- act 2 unless you use the AH
once the next patch comes out and then the pvp launches, this game will be a lot better.
Good news and bad news. The elite drops are getting fixed. The boss drops are getting nerfed. After 1.03 bosses will drop half the yellows. I just picked up another puzzle ring in nightmare at the Bastion dungeons on my Barb. Don't hate me becuse I'm lucky, Hang in there it'll come.
Nightmare? So you're not in inferno?
Please tell me you're in Inferno with one of your characters.
If not you have no idea what people in my situation are going through.
its been said time and time again its impossible to gear yourself through drops and crafting to take on inferno above act 1.
The gear doesn't exist, to take that kind of damage.
Damn dude even I got legendaries and good rares in modes Normal through Hell. Those modes are great you can play without the AH and progress.
In Inferno you will be banging your head against a wall for a very long time or atleast until its balanced.
Game wasn't design for people to be able to take that damage. Barb and monk are the two most difficult classes to beat inferno because you have to be in melee range to kill mobs. But can you imagine what the alternative would look like? If you are able to tank the damage, Inferno would become easy mode for melee classes. Not even saying that melee classes have it much easier than casters when fighting act bosses and normal through hell is faceroll on barb.
I am playing a caster and I had no problems beating inferno without buying gear from the AH.

At least Diablo 3 isn't as bad as DarkSpore. It had ridiculous combinations of elite mobs possible. One suffix made it so the critter could not take more than 1% (could have been 5%) of its health in damage per hit. Combine that with a reflects damage suffix and you kill yourself fighting it. Combine it with a regeneration suffix and it is literally impossible to kill.
I agree with the OP but the problem I am having is more the fun factor. Yeah loot drops suck and several times I have had to resort to AH buying and rare monster fleeing, but I dont even find the AH as being culpable for loot, and running not fighting is no fun.
There are literally thousands of the same item on the AH and yeah you can filter certain things and get it even down to an exact numerical value, but what is up with the no set pieces sub 60? Where are the set stats for uniques. I have no idea what I am even looking for when I try to find a certain unique or set item. I saw what seemed to be a really good set piece for my monk only to find that the only reasonably priced matching set pieces were for sorcs. WTF did their item generator?
I have been drooling for D3 since LoD ended for me and D3 has yet to come out. Forget all the glaring problems it has and ignore all the fanbois, what they are calling D3 is crap. Where are my skills that make me original from everyone else. The Skill points I can add that make me more powerful in one aspect than the next guy. All I am now is a ball of Dex, Str, or Int now. Every other monk can be the exact same as me, but possibly have more dex or less dex to be different.
Level 60, seriously? Everyone gets every skill, why is their an achievement for two of the same class? Inferno was originally an optional mode, but seems to be required now. Yeah I got through it, but it was not fun. Dieing to the same three fire chained molten plaged desecrator jailers 45 times is not fun nor is it hard, it's near impossible. Hard is trying to do a wheelie while eating an ice cream. Not trying to do a wheelie and eating an icecream on a tightrope that has been snapped and people still expect you to eat that icecream and make it to the other side. Forget that the game is broken.
The game is not Diablo.
(notice I did not say what game I can't wait for BS, I want Diablo 3)
You can definitely find the gear needed for Act 2 in Act 1. At least as a Barbarian. Just don't expect to do it in one run. You need to farm for a while, which is great. Otherwise you'd just fly through Inferno and have no content left to do.
