Hackers killing whole servers...[UPDATE]

BrenelaelBrenelael Member UncommonPosts: 3,821

This is just a heads up. It seems that some hackers have come up with a script that will mass kill everyone on a server at once and they have been using it across all servers. Rocket claims he's collecting data on it but nothing has actually been done to stop it as of yet. What will happen is everyone on the server will get thrown into the air about 200 feet above the ground and die when they land. This is just a warning that if you play before they get a handle on this you will most probably die no matter what server you are on. There are about 50 threads on this in the "Cheat Reporting" forum over at DayZmod.com already. I just thought people here should have a heads up.

UPDATE: It seems the great people at BIS have acted swiftly and issues a global ban to anyone who was using a third party scripting program through their Battleye client. Not only have the vast majority of the hackers been banned from DayZ but all of ArmA 2 multiplayer. They just totally bricked their copies of ArmA 2 for online play because of what they were doing. Very nice job BIS!

That is lame, thats why you can't let the players control anything in games becasue there is always some assholes that ruin it for everyone.

They usually have a pretty tight control on hacking in Arma 2 due to the anti-cheat program they use called Battleye. The problem with scripting cheats are they have to be dealt with through this other program and are really out of Rocket's control. The most he can do is collect as much data as possible and forward it to the people at BIS that handle the Battleye program. They are however pretty fast at countering most of this type of stuff but it may be a day or two before they can come up with a fix and push it onto the Arma 2 servers.

Somehow they could bypass Battleye and the massive hack attempts in the last days threatened the whole DayZ project.

A GLOBAL BAN wave has been sent out this day.....caught a lot of the hackers. You can read this on the dayz page but aswell on the hacker sites. Good job.

yep, that's what happens in every shooter.

uh and btw, since everyone was so happy day-Z is being ported to the AA3 engine in the next version, artificial aiming has a working aimbot for AA3 too.

whoever manages to code a save and 100% hack detection for that shit, will write the next successful FPS :P

Its a little bit different here, the hackers are actually trying to destroy DayZ and they are/were very close that the project shuts down. But seems like they could ban them.

Saw this thread saw Spizz's post which has been edited or moderated at this point, was trying to figure out where he got that quote from.  Never found where he got the quote. Still curious.  Started just reading the report a hacker and appeal section of the forums..

    Things I noticed.

Every other post in any given thread were banned members. Made me laugh.

I also noticed that Rocket and I guess his staff were confident enough in the methods used to detect "hacking" that they were trolling pretty hard.

It kind of rubbed me the wrong way.   No system is perfect and in fact if it's found out that there were false positives it's going to make Rocket and the moderators look like unprofessional asses. In my opinion one false positive is more than unacceptable after seeing the way they were acting..

I get that Rocket and the staff are frustrated.  I really do and am not sympathizing with the hackers. Just... unprofessional. Some of the obvious threads deserved it. There were also some that they admitted they didn't have a clue because they don't control BattleEye, yet continued to troll the global ban threads.

If he an his team are that frustrated to the point that they act that unprofessional it might be time to take a break for a day or two.  This mod is the main reason a lot of copies of Arma2 are being sold.

That's messed up. I dont understand why people enjoy ruining other peoples enjoyment in a game.

give people the power of knowledge and there will always be those that will use it to inflict pain onto others.

the mod is fun, but people keep forgetting that  it's only alpha. yesterday i was killed by a zombie hitting me though the wall, after that i'm running in the middle of an empty street and all of a sudden zombies just spawn on top fo me.... hacker zombies!

    lol

the game runs pretty crappy too, with constant lag spikes and glitches all over. it's fun but you can't take this stuff seriously untill it's at least a full fledged released mod.

hopefully the Arma devs give the moddder some help so he can finish it quickly.

Just so you know... Dean "Rocket" Hall is a BIS dev. He came up with DayZ in his down time while working on ArmA 3. He is one of their main Multiplayer coders. Since the outstanding rise in the popularity of his mod and the frenzied pace at which ArmA 2 sales have been going crazy he has not only been instructed by BIS to work on the mod full time but has been given a Dev team to help finish it. They are also making adjustments to the ArmA 3 code to accomadate DayZ on that platform as well. BIS has given Rocket all of the support he needs to turn his vision into reality.

Correction: Dean "Rocket" Hall was never directly employed by BIS. He was however contracted to do a lot of the Multiplayer coding for ArmA 3. He does have close ties to the BIS Arma dev team however.

On the subject of hackers, today was DayZ's Night of the Long Knives as far as they go. Thousands of hackers have had their copies of ArmA 2 disabled thanks to a BattleEye update.

It's been a thing of beauty on both the DayZ and ArmA forums with all the "WTF! I banned?!" posts that have popped up.

getting killed really isnt that big of a deal. "omg i worked on this char 4ever nonononnono" respawn, go to town, grab ur weapon and go kill some dude, and boom ur back :)

dont see how this could have threatened the entire dayz mod.. it was obvious they would fix it within days.
