The title basically says it all, Funcom are inviting everybody that have signed up for the beta, which is currently sitting at 1.3 million.
I feel this is taking balls of steel to do, because they will get a massive spike of people logging in at the same time with this stunt. The previous beta weekend went pretty smooth, so it looks like Funcom wants to make sure the launch will go as smooth as possible with a load very similar to the load they will have then and not do a Diablo 3 repeat.

Yes, I think this game, and this engine can do it. "TSW is the most technologically advanced MMO to date."
will there be lag? sure I think there will be. Will it work? and work pretty good? Without question.
I have an additional closed beta key if anyone wants it, message my and I can get it to you
It seems somewhat like a stress test. If they are planning to use this as a sort of mini stess test, then yes, I expect a lot of lag/restarts/etc.
It also makes me think that they might actually have some awesome ideas for PvP that they want to show off.
Ya i think it will go real smooth and maybe shut up alot of haters saying this will be just like AO and AOC .
The question was if it was going to go smooth or not. Lagging isn't smooth in my eyes. I do think it might be a bit laggy on low-end computers like my own (My cpu is slightly below minimum requirements).
You could post the link OP http://www.thesecretworld.com/news/beta_weekend_4_the_battle_begins
So, Fusang is over 200. I guess that means it's not 300, so it must be atleast 70, but less than 100. I personally, don't care has long has the size is right for the number of players.
Has far being stable, you can already have tons of people in the same spot and not lag, so spreading them over the Warzone shouldn't case problems.
Very interesting. Thanks for the info and good to see. Best way to stress test it really.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
This will be marvelous.
I expect much crashing and embarrasment on TSW's part. They haven't ramped up to any serious numbers and now...
well lol.
Spec'ing properly is a gateway drug.
12 Million People have been meter spammed in heroics.
You haven't seen the serious ramp ups. Some of us have. Thus our opinion.
I am guessing they are going to use the beta weekend to collect data on how many people they should have in the area. There is nothing like an open beta to collect data like that.
Added the link now, didn't have it earlier
It can hold 300, but performances and that's just too many people in there imo. A lot of people have enjoyed the CB 30-40 people.
Well, it should turn out to be a serious stress test
Not only will we have all those that like the game, but also all those that hate it, just so they can see if they can break the server
I don't really care if the final beta has some server issues as long as they are able to fix it.
Yeah, I feel it's a smart move, much better with a failed massive beta even than a failed launch. It's like they are doing the beta event to ensure everything is ready to launch.
What worries me is that it's so close to launch.
Other developers have managed to complete well-enough ahead of release that they had time to stress test, and time to react to that stress test.
Spec'ing properly is a gateway drug.

They better be ready...
This stunt is fully capable of sinking them just in time for launch.
A real make or break move.
Well, it's not like they aren't doing a closed beta in addition and looking at their response time to issues from the previous beta weekends and even during this beta weekend, they are basically fixing up corner cases.
What happens to the world of gaming if the PvP in TSW is better than GW2? Large population = more massive fighting with less flash all over the screen.
It is mind blowing to think but it would be cool if you ask me.
Nothing.
The people that like TSW will still buy that and the people that like GW2 will still buy that.
I haven't met or read one person yet though that gives any kind of indication that will be the case.
It's obviously a stress test but with inviting this many players, they better be sure that the game is ready for scrutiny by the ruthless masses.
What worries me is the fact that this is the first time they are doing any sort of a stress test for mass PvP. A week before launch doesn't really leave them much breathing room if any serious issues arise.
I actually got to talk to the devs back in January, one of the ways they tested it was with 300 computer controlled players standing on top of each other AoE-ing and seeing of they could take the server down. I think they are looking for corner cases or infrastructure problems - or plain login server issues.
That would be hilarious, but I doubt it will be "proven" in this BWE.
A huge amount of people will be attempting PvP with a very limited amount of unlocked skills and weapons. So the verdict will most likely be that combat is one-dimensional and predictable, requiring little to no skill. Closed-beta players with well-developed characters will faceroll BWE n00bs. Some weapons may also be named as OP and requiring nerfs...
If i'm not mistaken they've already been doing stress tests in CBT.
