Definitely have not been too big of a fan of MOBA titles. Always enjoyed competitive gaming, so the genre should be something I really got into, however, the top-down isometric view with a lot of titles really killed it for me. No idea why, just a personal preference thing.
The last two weeks I finally was able to get into SMITE (which actually spurred me into downloading Super Monday Night Combat) which are both two vastly different takes on the 3rd Person MOBA-Esque titles, and I have to say, I absolutely love how they play out. No doubt, SMITE obviously requires a bit more actual skill in terms of positioning and whatnot, but SMNC is a breath of fresh air that plays out in a more chaotic environment.
Enjoying both games, cannot put SMITE down. Just thought I'd share my 2 cents from someone who's never enjoyed the MOBA genre before but has had their mind changed by this title.

Yeah, for me I think it has a lot to do with the WASD controls and proper 3rd person 3D view. I was always turned off by the lack of visibility in isometric MOBAs, although I understand it doesn't bother some people. Just personal preference. What I really like about Smite is that I can see enemy players in a more realistic manner; if I'm pointing my camera directly in front of my face, I'm going to be able to see them pretty far down the lane. It may change the game dynamic too much for some old-skool DoTA fans, but it makes it infinitly more enjoyable for me.
That's pretty much my preference on 3rd Person. I hate being artificially blind to my immediate (nearly) surroundings.
You got some pretty nice points.
What I like most about SMITE is the big difference to games such as LOL and Dota.
In my opinion the game is even more tactical then those games due to the 3rd-person-view.
You can dodge auto-attacks/normal attacks which makes it harder to kill fleeing enemies, and let's you think about starting a fight a little more.
But I have also a bad point. Sometimes it can get hard to see where which enemy is when there is a big teamfight and your melee.
All in all I can just agree wih what you said.
I played LOL for about 1 and a half year. Now I#m stuck to SMITE. Says all.
Cheers
