Let me clarify, I wasn't complaning about the way the women are dressed, I'm merely speculating that some people, male and female would like to play a female toon that isn't wearing skimpy clothing. Admittedly I didn't look much past the starting clothes for cloth ligh armor classes.
Here is an image of all the light armor sets for female characters found in the Beta, as you can see there are armors of all types, so no, the armors in GW2 are not oversexualized, you can't say that if you only saw a little portion of the choices available.
I looked for that image for ages before giving up. You're my hero!
I really just don't get how people are still saying the game forces skimpy clothing on them unless they either haven't played the game.
Yeah, your right. I didn't look past some of the skimpy clothes at the beginning of the game. I didn't get much gameplay in the beta weekends. But, thanks for clarafying, I didn't know there was soo many armor sets in the game.
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”
There are plenty of hyper-sexualized outfits. There are also plenty of very demure and modest outfits, certainly more than a lot of other MMOs I could name. I don't think anyone will be unable to find something they like.
the only people who should be voteing or have an opinion are WOMEN who play the game. My wife played the beta and thinks just the oposite. Most people play fantasy games to act how they wouldnt normaly in RL. Im sure women want to fell sexy. I do not want the opinion of a 14 year old boy who plays a female char.
i seem to recall that this was addressed (in one of the dev blogs) by something along the lines of because most armor/weapon skins are cosmetic, they made sure to throw in something for everyone. thus the people who want to run around intheir knickers can, and the people who want to not look like fools can do that as well.
ya know i could see a mesmer purposefully wearing revealing 'armor' - make copies of yourself, several scanitly clad images could be very distracting to an opponent. ( im reminded of a porn star that was into fps's, used a 'topless' mod, knowing that other players would pause for a swecond to look, making for an easy kill - true story).
heavy armor classes make less sense, as plate armor kind of loses its effect if a lot of skin is exposed.
Would you mind clarafying what is stupid? and why?
Well I find it strange in a game where there is constant killing of mobs, a 20 year old male or female would chose the skimpy clothing Of a female character offensive and worthy of this crappy thread After all it is a game and not indicative of how males or females dress It's a fantasy world let the healthy heterosexual males enjoy the sites ...jeeez

I think that link is enough to finish this thread...... Only a small minority of armors can be considered "oversexualized" people are just overreacting.

The mesmer outfit is my favourite from what I have seen so far! XD And a reply to someone earlier in the thread.... why would the mesmer outfit not be designed by a woman? Oh right.. cause her stockings are showing *rolls eyes* come on guys some of us girls like to look good in games .
But there will always be someone who thinks one is whorish if revealing a bit of skin.... at the end of the day we are still looking at pixels.
it depends on your thinking . but i think for children or for people who dont like oversexualization you can put the voluntary censor button . in that way people who dont like it will not be offended . just an idea :P

So, you only want to hear the opinions of those who support your point of view?
The fact is, games are generally aimed at the very people you are saying you don't want to hear from. If you dont like it... well, tough, you'll just have to find another game.

The game doesn't force skimpy clothing on you, it's just popular to everyone else. And if it is popular to everyone else, then the people that are bothered by it are forced to see it.
Most of the armors don't even show belly buttons, let alone anything else. I wasn't aware that women were supposed to completely veil their bodies in order to not be 'over-sexualized'. Now I'm not a neo-feminist, but I'd imagine that most female gamers want to be able to play a character that they think 'looks good', regardless of whether or not that means sexy. GW2 offers a lot of range in this regard, from the heavily protected Warrior types, to the more revealing scholar classes (most particularly the mesmer).
Keep in mind that the mesmers are supposed to be somewhat alluring. Part of their whole mystique is their ability to charm others, and that can mean sex appeal. However, if one wants to play more of a librarian lady, they can.

Because either you're a woman, or an immature 14 year old boy, right?
Mature and relevant opinions about sexism and sexualization can come from both genders. Your argument is like saying that white people shouldn't participate in discussions about racism. Apart from being horribly discriminatory yourself, you're also hamstringing the discussion's ability to impact those who (probably) most need to hear from a more diverse perspective. In other words: what good is it to shoo all of the "boys" out of a sexism discussion, when you blame the "boys" for being sexist in the first place?
thanks god for the oversexualized female characters in some MMo. unlike other games like TSW where female characters look like a mix between a retarded camel and a drunkard chimpamzee.

Oh god... here we go again.... yet another thread from someone who is uncomfortable with a bit of skin on show. Bring on the strange prudes who don't mind super buffed men in tiny loin cloths commiting genocidal levels of hyperviolence, but have a fit about a short skirt.
I swear some of you would have all female characters dressed in burkas.
I personally don't see what the issue is... I see a lot more stronger sexual imagery on TV before 9pm then I do in any of these games. Can I suggest if someone is so easily offended by the incredibly low level sexual imagery in a game like this they should probably just find a 'safer' place to spend their leisure time... maybe take up bee keeping or something. The world always needs more bees.
I'd like to know what types of outfits people consider not to be suggestive. If non-suggestrive costuming means what I faced in AoC, then no thanks. When my Bear Shamaness reached 80, I faced a choice between a gray sack and a brown sack. While the pieces had a sort of pseudo-realistic look, both were hideous.
In GW2 both of my caster females started with "armor" that was somewhat revealing. By, it was either level 4 or 6, in the personal quest line, I had received a chest armor that provided almost complete coverage. That said, having the ability to choose between 3-4 options at creation would not be a bad thing.

Not to be rude intentionally, but let me guess OP, you must be American? because usually americans have it backwards, they hate sexuality but love violence.
If gw2 female are oversexualize then i guess you probably haven't seen a lot of women in real life.

To actually make this a topic,

At first they kind of are if they are casters, because of their starting gear, but they will eventually pick up some pants and be fine.
BTW, some of these male armor sets are pretty sexualized if I do say so myself.
The man to the very left. Look at those abs. Look at that kilt. He is showing about as much skin as that lady in the middle.

Sexualization is part of life. Women do it to dudes, dudes do it to chicks. I voted for the "<3 boobies".

Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
Hmm.
I think Guild Wars 2 proves there's a whole gamut to show.
Some of them are close to just being lanigre and others look like functional high-fantasy armor.
So there's variety. I'm always for variety and I have no interest in what people will do with said variety.
