Easy to say when you're on the other side of the fence.
Meanwhile, new players get shoo'ed away by meaningless ganks and impossible terms to join a clan. When you stop getting new blood, you're on the road downward, which is something you MUST understand.
But hey, I'lle believe his talk when I see it? Better hurry, the competition is about to get nasty.

actually I was terrible at pvp. I rarely ever won and was server wise about a medium build character with below medium player skill, but it was still friggin fun.

I loved Darkfall but for me it came down to time. I do not have the time that I used to to have to spend four hours seiging. Or grinding matts to cast spells. Or grinding matts to cast spells because I got killed.
Everything in Darkfall was a timesink. I imagine that I'm not the only person to think that way. The thing is though, I don't want Darkfall to change for me, because there are already games out there that cater to my needs but not so much for the Darkfall target audience.

i think that they will reduce the "farming" in DF 2.0 a lot... i heard that in 2-3 months your skills will be at max. and u will only care for the rest the game has to offer....

I dont know how I feel about quick progression. I mean here is how I think about it.
If the desire is to max out in a few months the question then becomes do players really even want progression at all? why not just log in already maxed, why bother with the the dog and pony show if nobody really wants to do it?
My default view is that in an RPG the character progression last years but perhaps I should reconsider that bias but then the question becomes 'why not max in one day?' do players enjoy progression if so how much? what do they do for the year after the first few months?
its all very confusing to an old schooler.

Well the disconnect is whether or not a PVP focused game should totally reward players for PVE progression efforts? Or should they only reward PVP activities? Or perhaps go with a steady state progression mechanic such as EVE's?
Should the game be fairer to new players, or should those who put in the most time/effort/money be virtual gods walking the gaming landscape.
How much safety should a game offer a player. Safe zones, safe cities, no safety at all, very important questions when designing your title and one has to decide how many people you'd really want to draw to your game.
For whatever reason, DF1.0 didn't draw a lot of players, nor did it retain its core audiance. We can only hope they do better the 2nd time around.

these are good questions. Most ot them fall back to my core question which is this.
from a playablity standpoint what to players really want?
I mean do they want a 2 month progression cycle because they assume there has to be progression in the first place or would they really perfer no progression at all? or as you say would they be intrested in a long progression cycle if its pvp centered? etc.
I think I like the idea of a skill progression tree tied to your pvp activities.

Yeah... There was this other game that came out a few years back that had a guy making all kinds of promises that made the game sound amazing. The game itself was in development forever and a lot of people thought it was Vaporware but the die hard fans stuck with this developer only to find out that when the game finally did release that it was only half of what they had been promised. Come to think of it... That guy's name was Tasos too!!! What a coincidence!

i still believe DF is amazing, and for me it has the most elements i want from an MMO... also consider, how small was Aventurine and how they started with 11 people!!! and what they achieved.
I still believe in DF, i hope DF 2.0 will do things correct this time.

same here.
Darkfall in my view is not a little better but rather radically better than any other MMO I have ever touched (which granted isnt a huge list but still) and I actually am terrible at pvp but its still amazing.
Most people who dont like it are just ticked off that they cant beat the guys who have no job, spend all their time playing and afk cheat. i wish they would learn to focus their anger in the right direction though.

No... I have no problem with FFA PvP w/Full loot. What I do have an issue with is developers that make all kinds of grandiose promises that they know they have no way of keeping. Tasos made these promises, some of which were outrite lies to the fan base for 8 years before Darkfall finally released. He was lying to the fanbase just days before the game was released. I know, I was there. If DF 2.0 is what he claims it will be I will be very surprised. This is a guy that has literally made a career out of telling fans whatever he thinks they want to hear and then trying to backpeddle when his lies are exposed by reality. This time Tasos need to show me he's on the level because I'm not going to fall for it again.

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

i totally agree!

Er, Tasos wasn't even involved with Darkfall 8 years before it released. And just about every major feature Aventurine promised made it into Darkfall. And 100% of the features that have been promised in the past 3 expansions were in the expansions when they released, sooooo...
Sorry, you are correct. it was 6 1/2 years we had to listen to Tasos telling us whatever he thought we wanted to hear. You seem to remember the whole launch with some very rose tinted glasses so I won't argue it with you as it would be pointless.
Hey... If Tasos is on the level about all of the new features in 2.0 you have nothing to be defensive about. I for one will be very cautious before I get baited in again. I may play if it all pans out but I'll need proof first.

Sooo.....where did everyone go and why did they leave? Must have been something missing in the final presentation.

A number of issues. The primary one being the skill system was not balanced, requiring everyone to grind a long time to keep up with everyone else
So in other words, you couldn't think of even one feature they missed at launch? I can. But they weren't numerous.
