Is there only one animation for your "spam" ability?

I've been watching some videos for Guild Wars 2, and the thing that I find the most jarring to look at is how the "at will" abilities with no cooldown seem to keep repeating the same animation over and over again. Even though the animation is great, it would be nice to see at least two variant animations on a move that you'll be spamming more than the others.

While this game has no auto-attack in it, other MMOs (even the worst ones out there) will have more than one animation for the auto-attack, so I'm a little concerned here with what looks like a single animation for the equivalent of a Guild Wars 2 autoattack.

Can someone with GW2 experience enlighten us on what the situation is with the animation count for "at will/autoattackish" abilities?

Thanks

My "auto-attacks" have three different animations, each of them following the chain (IE: Attack 1 which lead to attack two which lead to attack tree, however always beginning with attack one). This is for warrior however, and I can't tell about other classes.

I think you are referring to casters and range. Melee have more variation.

  • You have to be careful.

Don't assume all "at-wills" are created equal.  Many at of them change in a prgression.  Or they do something different on the 3rd ability.  Some do not.

In general if the name changes as you hit the ability you will have different effects and often a different animation.

However some at wills do not change and are simply one attack.  Please review the necromancer weapon skills as an example:

notice scepter and dagger have a chain of 3 differently named skills but staff and axe do not.

Nah, that isn't the pattern.  Not sure that there is a real pattern except maybe that staves tend to not have varition.  Scepters often have variation.

I think hes talking about the auto attacks(1 ability)

an ele for example has the same animation(or at least VERY similar) for auto attacks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Bvegma1eBE

    unlike thiefs:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfpZ7Gt6p5k

Right I understand that he is talking about the 1 ability.  But a number of ranged #1s actually are chains.  It seems like the #1 on most staves do not, but many scepters are also chains of different abilities.

Elementalist is not a good example they have very few chain abilities at all.  But necro and mesmer for example for both classes the #1 secpter ability is a chain of 3 skills but the staves have just one skill that spams over and over.

There is a trend of the ranged not chaining for the medium and heavy classes.  But 2/3 the cloth classes don't follow this trend.

Anyway the chain of skills is a tricky thing as its rather hard to even notice since you would have to hover over the skills and read it while also using it during combat.  Probably something like 30-50% of the #1 auto attack skills are really chains of 3 skills.

Also some non-auto attacks also chain, but usually that is only 2 skills total.

pretty sure the underwater weapon animations are pretty much the same.

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)
