PvP? Um..

So, today I finished the first section of Egypt and I thought I'd try something I don't normally bother with - PvP. Off I went to Fusang and for a little while just ran around on my own, barely spotting another person in sight. Eventually I caught up with the crowd and followed them around. A few dead players later, many many deaths, and a few golems down, I'm there wondering what the hell is the point in all of it.

Seriously, why do people get enjoyment from this sort of thing? Spawn, follow zerg, maybe die, maybe kill another player or two. Repeat. And for what? To kill a golem and turn one area from one owner to another? Bah. I really don't get the appeal. Anyone else tried PvP and wondered what the hell it was there for? It's like a completely different game compared to all the fantastic quests and PvE content.

large scale pvp for me really depends on map design and of course how combat is set up.. honestly overall I just found the fusang map not well laid out and overall not very interesting or fun for that matter. The other two maps are not bad though and I enjoy them a great deal more.

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

I have only seen deep strategy in an MMORPG once in my gaming career. That was on DAOC where your guilds actually thought about how they would take keeps etc. I remember staying up several hours one night talking with our Alliance of 3 guilds about who would be part of the first strike and who would be in wait to ambush the supporting lines. It was fun to talk about strategy and how well we could pull it off. Newer games are all about the zerg ... damn you blizzard.

In other news I hear that people in TSW hated the new Batman movie so much they zerged and started ganking lowbies. Hazah.

    It was fun in cb

It's shite in live, why because pveers are dipping in every half hour to take an empty objective

In beta was fun because only pvpers bothered with it.

I've seen strategy in games other than daoc, eve, perpetuum & planetside for a start, and too a lesser degree even war and aion.

So don't follow the zerg and go hunt for 1v1s?

    Pretty simple.

get into a small group and activly try to avoid the zerg, the pvp is much better this way, though if my gpu allowed i would participate in the zerg as well.

its actually pretty fun to small group in fusang, try to ninja objectives, or harass a spawn...whatever you do avoid that zerg.

even fun when you know exactly where the zerg is headed to trail it and pick people off ect.

still havent tried the 5vs5 or 10vs10 instances, i figure they are pretty standard.  Need to save something for when im done with content.  im typically into pvp at endgame so long as it isnt cross server battlegrounds where im fighting with and against faceless people i dont know...cant stand that.

they really need a guild vs guild pvp mechanic, either seiges or territory war (both please) and have it an option to engage in FFA pvp with the cabal your warring against...i think this alone would completely change peoples opinions on this games pvp.

i find the best part of pvp in this game is literally having no way of knowing what your fighting against, it makes for surprising encounters and theres none of that "go after the mages avoid the tank" mechanics where you only hunt the paper to your sissors while avoiding the rock class...that kind of pvp is way too predictable.

Other than that i really think the community is taking pvp as a side dish, which is how it should be.  just needs the guild mechanics and the FFA option and it will be a fantastic addition to the game.

Also more people will start partaking in pvp when pve is mostly completed and they have their builds fully specced.  I know a lot of people who are just going to avoid the pvp part of the game untill later on when they have access to much more high tier skills and they arnt wrist deep in the pve.

PvP is just a bit of fun to take a break from the main game currently, TSW is not a pvp game but it's pvp is fun in short doses.

Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy :)
