GW2 will have 20% gem discount on BWE3?

xmentyxmenty Member UncommonPosts: 719

Below is the info I got from the Anet GW2 forum.

Was wondering whether if it is a good idea to get some gems when it is at 20% discount?

Any opinion guys?

Since our last Beta Weekend Event we’ve made quite a few changes

and improvements to both the trading post and our world transfer system.

We’ll also have special daily sales going on in the Gem Store throughout the Beta Weekend Event.

Read on for more information!

Remember: You will be charged for all gem purchases made during the Beta Weekend Event,

but any gems you purchase will be credited to your account when GW2 launches.

You’ll find all the details right here in our Gem Store FAQ.

World Transfer

World transfer will be free and unlimited from Noon July 20 to 6:00 PM Pacific on July 21.

After this period, you’ll need to spend gems for a transfer.

Transfers will still be unlimited.

The gem costs for a world transfer after 6:00 PM Pacific on July 21:

1800 gems to transfer to a high population world

1000 gems to transfer to a medium population world

500 gems to transfer to a low population world

Trading Post

Dyes are now tradable in the Black Lion Trading Post.

All items for sale must be posted for a unit price that is above the vendor value of the item

(if the item has a vendor value).

Daily Gem Store – 20% Off

Each day during the Beta Weekend Event we’ll offer a different item on sale for 20% off in the Gem Store.

All sales begin and end at midnight of each day.

Why would you buy stuff with the gems in beta though?

They reimburse the gems at launch (or the 3 day head start).

I was thinking of buying extra character slot or maybe some inventory space.

Maybe just get another new boxset instead of buying gems?

    Read the post again.

They will be having sales where items in the gem shop are 20% off, not the gems themselves.

What's the point in 20% off items you're gonna be reimbursed for then? This is confusing.

The gems are normal price, but the items will be 20% off meaning you can buy more items with the gems you buy. Come launch you will get whatever gems you purchased back, but will not have the items.

Ya that's what I mean. What's the point in the sale if it's only for the weekend? Might as well be a 99% discount lol

They are testing the gem store.

Yeah, my bad, I misunderstood you.

I've heard people say that they might want to test stuff out for themselves before they actually use the gems for real. So it gives some people a chance to check out some of the items and decide if they were worth it.

    I'm not buying any though.

    Yea my bad :(.

No idea why the fk there is a 20% discount on purchasing the items instead of the gems in BWE.

Anyway saw on the Anet gems Q & A

Q: Will I get to keep gems I got from the currency exchange after the beta?

A: No, all beta data will be completely wiped before launch,
including the items you purchased or exchanged during beta events.
We only maintain a record of the amount of gems you purchase during
Beta Weekend Event 3 via credit card or PayPal,
and you will receive that amount of gems on your account once Guild Wars 2 launches.

So you don't have to buy as many gems to try something in Beta as you will in live.

The reason for the discounts during the weekend is to test the store for release to make sure any discount features work and don't falsely charge you on release.

Probably to test the functionality of discounting items in the shop. This is a beta test weekend, you know, not a free trial.

To generate more 'oh a sale', I better buy it. Credit card on file and you are a fish halfway to land. You will get the purchased gems back but not the items (for release).

One thing I was SLIGHTLY disappointed with was the the server transfer costs. If 800 gems = $10 they made it necessary to buy 2 gem purchases($20 to get 1000 gems) to make a jump to a medium pop server and 3 ($30 to get 1800) to make a jump to a high pop server .

Both could have been dropped by 200 to make it a nice $10/$20 for the transfers. It's subtle but kind of n off putting, IMO

As far as gems in general, I MIGHT see myself plunking down $10 for an extra bag slot or two (I forgot how much they were) for my main.

More likely though after playing the BWEs I'll just make some mules and park them near their local banks and just use good bag management.
